When this came out in 2003 I thought this was going to be WAY bigger than it was. It sounded like a new era for an Eurythmics type of music to take over the mainstream and finally bury the crap we had to put up with in the 90's. But it was just too ahead of its time. Sad how brilliance can get overlooked when the timing is not right.
People are idiots in short.
I mean it was a top 10 hit !
IDk if that's true, but given a few decades of club and so forth, feels pretty accurate. Like, I know it was '03 and got some play on our (then) badass indie channel, but it would be 6 or more years later, and then it was blowing up at like darkwave night. Not quiiiiite the right venue/theme night, but I'll be damned if it didn't pop. Very wide x-section of subcultures and niches really into it. Weird but solid.
Like '01 when Gorillaz put out "Clint Eastwood". Another club night, industrial-goth Wed, and they play it, and once more, ton of rando punks, skaters, occasional head banger, rivet head, goth, or local hip hop kid were all happy AF. Goldfrapp's a little more accessible, but it's so cool when you see those moments. Like bottled lightning, hard to repeat.
@@erminedereims400 It wasn’t a Top 10 hit. It originally debuted in the Top 30 in 2003, before the song was reissued in 2004 in which it managed to crack the Top 20. But it deserved to be much, MUCH bigger.
Miss kitten
This song by goldfrapp could have possibly been a club hit worldwide
it was
I remember when it was.
I saw her live And I was mesmerized by her stage persona. Life changing experience. She is true artist
Is she touring again?
Life Changing just to See & Hear her Perform !! Imagine being friends with her or Best Yet,,, her Lover ?? 👌😎✌️🥰
Its like a cross between I Feel Love and Spirit in the Sky.
+Liz Clegg That's sooo accurate
It has many of the same notes as "Strangers in the Night" therefore it's a ripoff of Sinatra.
Oh La La has notes of Spirit in the Sky.
also Blondie
Ah that is it... kinda hadn't clicked :-). Plus a twist of something disco=y and demanding lol
thank God for Goldfrapp..
+MrJaimilly thank goldfrapp for god(frapp)
exactly,lol
+MrJaimilly Thank Goldfrapp.. that is all.
Amen! Preach it!
Simply awesome!!!
Everything this woman does is awesome. One of my favorite artists.
Yeah..copying songs from others...
@@buddyxxx2951 - umm... What you meant was, wearing her influences on her sleeve, which is in the best traditions of Electronic Music.... Agree with you Cassie, although Goldfrapp is actually a duo, not just one woman
@@DaveAndBeth1978 no. I meant rip off...is clear
@@buddyxxx2951 - the only thing that's clear is that you have no clue what you're talking about and are incredibly ignorant 🙄
@@buddyxxx2951 ????
I honestly dont know how she goes to bed at night knowing that she created this masterpiece. I would be high everyday if I created something at this level. The sound design is next level.
Your probably high listening to it lol 😂
@@Staysick17 Yes, probably. And I have never taken drugs smoked or even had a glass of alcohol in my life. Who needs it when music is this good!
This song never ages in its sexiness!
It never ages cause it's a Donna Summer classic I feel love. What a rip off
@Christodavid X you may wanna go and get the shinebox
This sounds nothing like I Feel Love
.
“So how much acid did you take?”
Goldfrapp: Yes
I love this XDDDD
I'm on acid right now reading this comment hahahaha
@@maxbielinski2276 LMAO!!!!
Yeah I reckon at some point between Felt Mountain and Black Cherry Alison came across someone whit a pile of quality drugs
xtc
Black Mirror 4: Crocodile. Perfect combination.
Yes it’s. Just have seen it.
Umm, ...you do realize this song is about "personal vibrators", right??? 😅
2024 june and still Sound so fresh and unique
heard it first at a party in 2004, drove everybody insane by repeating it 5 times. now 16 years later, still on repeat
Almost 20 years old, and as fresh as a daisy!!!! Awesome!!!! I’m in love…….
Ya'll need to listen to this surround sound on good headphones, Goldfrapp takes you on a crazy electronica disco ride, and its best done in the dark of your room, alone and riding the waves of her siren song with low neon underlighting as ambience.
Very trippy album, Black Cherry, and sonically hypnotizing much like something you'd hear Roger Waters tinker up on a synthesizer. Which, by way of theramin orgasms, she as an act perfected live once upon a time.
Which album do you recommend?
@@sibelithhuaman7366 Black Cherry, Supernature and Seventh Tree.
I love that I just finished dancing 🕺🏿 to this song in pitch black 🌚darkness with super bass headphones 🎧 & then I read your comment! Cosmic. I did move into another realm. I too love Black Cherry. Hypnotic song & album. Love your post!
@@twhitlock2964 Wasn't Tiptoe epic? Sends warm vibrations all over you. There's some great remixes for all her tracks. The Mountaineers, Andy Bell, Village Hall...she used to market them on separate singles with cool art on the covers.
@@twhitlock2964 If you like the surround sound and atmospheric headphones trip, you must check out the album 'Talkie Walkie' by AIR (Cherry Blossom Girl and Surfing on a Rocket are out-of-this-world) and the album 'Junior' by Royksopp (especially the track 'Royksopp Forever'--sounds very epic and cinematic like Utopia of Goldfrapp's album 'Felt Mountain'. Happy tripping!
Goldfrapp is my second favorite Electronic band of all-time, alongside Depeche Mode. This video is fantastic, as well!
Love the Synths
Goldfrapp and Depeche Mode, yass! I strongly recommend you Grimes, Little Dragon as well. Both female singers and astonishing artists in general perspective.
I have all of Grimes and Little Dragon albums. Both excellent bands.
That’s awesome! Depeche Mode is my favorite band, and I’m trying listen to more Goldfrapp music because of her recent collab with Dave Gahan (“Ocean”).
How excited were you when 'Ocean' was released featuring Dave? :D
I’m a metal and hip hop head, but this is still my favorite song ever. I’m not even sure how that happens lol
I think it's because excellent pop music is difficult to make, since it has so much going against it i.e. getting too repetitive, lyrical vacancy, getting overplayed on radio stations etc.
Spent months listening to the electropop hits from the mid 2000s and 2010s and most of them are really just god-awful trash. Only a handful of artists like Goldfrapp can pull off really amazing electropop/synthpop.
Any mental music you'd recommend for a newbie. I'm hip hop head but my former neighbour inspired me to like metal music?
@@nontokozomabobe7854 me personally I like a lot of the old metal bands. Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, AC/DC. Then newer ones like Rammstein & Type O Neg
its in the edits and looped based arrangement plus its a kickass song for real
@@jilligain3409 I’m not the biggest metal guy, but when I listen to metal those are the bands. And Metallica of course.
My eyes got big at the realization this came out in '03!! I was thinking about 10-12 years ago. Time flies! :/
This video deserves an award.
Got to be one of the greatest pop records ever created
This album defined my late teens and early twenties. Goldfrapp is a legend. I just wish they would remaster this video- it is stunning and deserves the treatment.
So ahead of their time. This was released in 2003?!
Far from ahead of it's time... Would have been a big hit in 1978 if it had existed then
Black Mirror brought me here. Love this fucking show.
Same here. Couldn't get this song out of my head.
Same
A Nintendo advert ages ago brought me to this.
Alison is an amazing singer. Will is an amazing synth player - together just brilliant
The best synth pop band of the 21st Century.
She it's a electronic dance genre not synth!!!
Hey, 21st ain't over yet.
@@sorin9631 THEY are an Electronic duo, and synth pop and electronic dance share the same root genre... The synth-pop influence here is obvious
Perhaps in terms of date of founding, but OMD’s 21st century albums blow them out of the water
@space__idklmao no they don't... OMD have yet to make an album this century as good as Goldfrapp
Love this. It reminds me a little of I Feel Love by Donna Summer.
Pretty much set the tone of popular electric music
it thought it sounded a lot like Blondie.
More like "Rah Band". This song is a complete lift from Rah Band "The Crunch".
I just heard that song a couple of minutes ago!!!!!!
@@tartgreenapple not a "complete lift", although it was definitely influenced by it
I still find it hard to believe that Alison and I were in the same class at secondary school together. My only claim to fame!!
She seems shy when not onstage
All the boys and girls and teachers must've secretly and privately crushed on her.
was she this brilliant in school?
@@stlophen depends what you mean by brilliant. The Alison I remember was very clever, razor sharp clever - but shy.
@@jamesthompson3674 I guess that’s how most gifted people are. Thank you brother!

The bass line from Suzi Quatro's Can the Can ❤
No, it's actually inspired by Norman Greenbaum's Spirit In The Sky
God WHY is this the perfect song? Ever?
Allison has a beautiful voice and Will Gregory is a bit of an ace on the synths and programming
This may still be the most played song on my iPod after owning it for 6 years. By a large margin.
Saw these live about 10 years ago when they where supporting Duran Duran in Newcastle. They were weird but brilliant! Ahead of their time!
Manchester ln 1980
Very much ahead of their time. As were Pink Floyd. This song is particularly apt - as we approach the machine age - the time when the greatest intelligence on Earth is no longer human but artificial.
Antony Stringfellow case and point: the tide pod challenge
Very good duo, but not really ahead of their time TBH.... This would have been a big hit in the late 70s / early 80s...
@@antonystringfellow5152 - as we approach "the machine age"? We arrived in that age long ago
Writhing and undulating cyberpunk sensuality. Whenever Alison and Will convene in the name of Goldfrapp, electromiracles are born. This has gotta be one of the most ingenious electronic landscapes ever assembled. Every facet of its sonic diamond shimmers like a distant quasar - or perhaps C-beams at the Tannhäuser Gate 😉
Oh, and it's a bloody ripper of a song mate! 😆
10 years on and still some of the best sensory candy.
This song is good but always remember to keep your eyes on the road when raving to it!
Huge classic of electroclash.
OMG the bass on this one...droool
I'm feeling blow away 👀🥰❤️💋💘💋
The whip percussion energizes me like nothing else. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck
I know right! I listen to this song everyday for months. As someone who studies sound design this is my Gold standard.
Abba + Tool = Goldfrapp.
360p doesn't come anywhere close to the resolution this video deserves. Come on EMI, stop being chumps and show us the good stuff.
We have sound. it is all we need.
@@SergeyPRKL With a music video that has visuals like these, I STRONGLY disagree! I want to see this remastered in 4K!
They just replaced the SD version with a HD version
@@Mindphaser1 Hell yeah!!
@@Mindphaser1 I wonder if BMG Rights Management had anything to do with it since they now hold the license. I'm noticing almost ALL of Goldfrapp's videos are now in HD.

THE song that got me into Goldfrapp!... it's still my fave
finally after 9 years, i found this song.
Alison goldfrapp is incredible!
One of the greatest masterpieces of electronical music ever...❤️❤️❤️👌
OH COME ON!!!!!!!! This is a freaking great song....and video!
sounds alot like donna summer - i feel love
Giorgio Moroder.
Wow! I've been mesmerized by this track for 2 days now! The sweet dulcet, gossamer voice of Alison is amazing and enchanting! Pop, rock and opera goddess all rolled into one! The hypnotic, pounding bass riffs and beats . . . blending 70's glam, 80's pop, 90's rock, and the "naughts" (00) techno, trance . . . they've captured it all with this one and their others: "Ride A White Horse," "Beautiful," "Ooh La La" and "Number 1." Keep it coming Goldfrapp!!!
Who are you? Just wondering as ya got that spot on
What a Song, a Masterpiece !!!
Love Alison Goldfrapp. Fantastic band and music. Never achieved what they deserved.
Tuuuuunnnnneee!
Black Mirror...thank you..got it on repeat..!!!
Those notes that come in at 3:00 do something to my soul. Like to tears to my soul. Not sure why

Paused the episode and looked it up :P
From which episode it is?
i went to LA when i turned 20 and they handed out Goldfrapp albums at the club i went to.
hearing this in black mirror was a weird nostalgia trip
This had a big dose of 70s glam rock sound, with that 12/8 time signature as well. Great song.
Goldfrapp is always ahead of their time. This sounds like it came out 2min ago. 💖
Not at all ahead of its time - this song is effectively a mash-up of I Feel Love by Donna Summer and The Crunch by The RAH Band, both from the late 70s... Its a great song though - the best traditions of electronic music revolve around taking what came before, and doing something different with it
@@DaveAndBeth1978 Great shout, I'd forgotten about the Rah Band song. I like Goldfrapp but for anyone say they are ahead of their time is talking bollox.
this is the best song ever
Far beyond its time.I'm okay 20 years on but I certainly don't mind the great synths of those days!

I have loved this song for years. Don't know why I never looked up the video for it before today. I am SOOOO glad I did!!!
This music plus her voice really interwines I never grow tired of the syths lighting up my ears with sweet candy.
I love the way Ms.Goldfrapp moves, the way she bops her hips and drops her head- very cool
Still love it
I'm in Love with the original Electroclash sound!
Electroclash actually pre-dates Goldfrapp by several years... Great song though
I'm here for the music and the art obviously but OMG Alison you are mesmerising
Great track. Thank you Black Mirror for bringing Goldfrapp back into my consciousness for the first time since college haha
Such a horn bag
I love her ❣️
best song on the black cherry album IMO. love it!
I was there. It felt like being at a dirty Weimar cabaret show in Berlin in 1929. The most imagi native and incredible gig ive ever been to.
A lot of people say this was ahead of it's time ..and probably yes..but only for people that follow the mainstream... I was there for this and i still come back to it from time to time because it's amazing, and awesomeness is timeless. Like I go back to Led Zeppelin or Deftones or Wu Tang clan, Mozart, Franz Liszt, Metallica, Guns and Roses, Deep Dish...or a lot of stuff that makes no sense for everybody but it is simply amazing regardless of the labels, the genre, the time.
Very Nice !!
Frapp is Gold!
Fantastic
I discovered this band with this music video, at the same time, it feels good to listen to this version/edit of the song, it sounds different to the album version, and is let's face it, better. Bigger sounds.
God this song slaps. Some fairly heavy elements while retaining all the pop sensibilities. Sure wish I'd seen these two in their prime.
You better not sing along to this song while driving.
Accidents may happen...
Lucas A. Straight up...one time I was driving alone in the desert bumpin this, singing at the top of my lungs...two doves slam into the front of the car. I changed it immediately!
