You can get rid of the ruffles if you like or hack the pattern into a top. If you can sew in an invisible zipper, it's your level pattern.

Are the string channels at bottom of bodice left separate from the skirt? Will there be a hole at the bottom of the bodice?

Thank you! Technically yes, there is a tiny opening, but it is absolutely invisible due the skirt seam allowance goes upwards and covers the opening from the wrong side, plus the strings go downwards with a bow on the right side.

Is it possible to stitch the drawstrings down at the bottom of the bodice instead of at the neckline so that they can be tied at the top?

Absolutely! Just do the same at the top, as it is done on the waistline, so leave openings and finish them the same way as on the waistline now. :)
