There are people with there own profession, whatever they do and do it well. Then there are people that go far above everything. Adventure sworn...isn't his name cody...is the equivalent to Leonardo DaVinci when it comes to making knives
i really like the design i have one myself But for 01 steel its a bit overpriced in my opinion. But the handel is great
I bought an Adventure Sworn Mountaineer also, but mine is 1/8 inch thick, convex grind. The mountaineer is a beautiful knife,and the quiilty seems to be outstanding. Only concern I have with my mountaineer, is the tip is super thin. I am scared of breaking the tip off.
+james Miller - If this concerns you, buy a Bark River. Their tip profile is more robust and less likely to break off.
Why did you choose the full grind convex rather than getting a scandi grind? I will be getting one of their knives however I’m up in the air as to the grind, your input is appreciated. The only sad thing is now the person who builds the matching fire steel has a year’s back log, boo hoo. Thanks

.170, weight: 6 ounces, blade steel: CPM3V, grind: convex with slight shoulders. The Mountaineer specs are, overall length: 9.25 inches, blade length: 4.25 inches, blade thickness: .156 inches, weight: 7.3 ounces, blade steel: CPM3V, grind: full height convex grind.
The Aurora is better at splitting kindling, whereas the Mountaineer is better at slicing and making shavings. I like the grip on the Mountaineer better, but this is subjective and can vary depending on the type of grip, hand geometry, cutting activity and length of use. The Mountaineer fills the palm more, but both knives offer good ergonomics. The balance seems a little better on the Aurora. The Mountaineer is
more handle heavy. The Aurora has a very stout and heavy duty point, whereas the Mountaineer has a more refined point. The Mountaineer has an heirloom quality to it and the build quality is impeccable. The Aurora offers more value because it is a terrific knife, but at a lower cost.
In summary, both knife makers build premium/professional grade knives with a slight edge going towards Adventure Sworn, but there really is no down side to owning a Bark River Aurora. Respectfully

Bark River has been using 3V steel for years, whereas 3V is relatively new to Adventure Sworn. Most of Adventure Sworn blades are fabricated from O1. The Aurora is better at splitting kindling, whereas the Mountaineer is better at slicing and making shavings. I like the grip on the Mountaineer better, but this is subjective. That certainly is a gorgeous knife, and CPM 3V is certainly an excellent steel. However, don't you think the incredible hardness and difficulty of sharpening makes 3v a less than ideal choice for a bushcraft knife? In my opinion, a bushcraft knife should be sporting a high carbon steel like 1095 for ease of sharpening in the field without having to carry around water stones or diamond sharpeners. Just my opinion, but I'm curious about what you have to say about your choice of CPM 3V
Jeremian Lastly by the look at your comments I can know that you don't use any convex knives before if you do you won't say that! I've a kiku matsuda convex blade made out of OU-31 super steel HRC 64 I just need to strop it to get a razor sharp edge and is not that difficult trust me go get one convex blade for yourself to find out convex blade is the most easiest blade to get a razor sharp, dont need any water stone.

Great video. How did u end up getting a convex grind on your knife. Seems like they only offer scandi grind unless you get a custom order, maybe I'm wrong?
Correct, convex are mostly reserved for custom orders, but on occasion they will post a convex blade on their website. Custom build is the way to go IMO. You get exactly what you want with no compromises.

As I recall, they were closed for a long time. I waited about 3 years before their books re-opened again. Get on their email list and they will alert you. They will also send you notices any time they post small batches of knives on their site.

Perhaps that will change now that they have a new shop, but you could be in for the long haul if you want a fully custom blade built to your preferences.
