    I wish people would stop talking about his death and start talking about his life. It's the sad state of his memory because it's horribly tainted in a way that will keep him being remembered but not for the important things like how awesome his art is.

      I mean, talking to someone who is going to do a story on you does absolutely have an effect on what you're saying to him knowing it will be presented to the publuc.
      I'd hazard a guess that the truth is somewhere in the middle. There was certainly some tension between Kurt and Dave. Dave was harbouring alot of low key resentment from Kurt's royalty restructuring, what he considered Kurt's "sloppy" live play and the fact that Kurt was waffling on doing Lollapalooza '94.
      Especially since the new royalty split (which I believe was somewhere between 90-97% in Kurt's favor after he forced Krist and Dave to renegotiate it) made live performance Krist and Dave's primary source of income (money from live performances was still split evenly). The U.S. tour in '93 barely generated profits for the band since they were bringing their own P.A. and lighting systems.
      Lollapalooza would've given Nirvana a massive cut of the "back end" on ticket sales and have generated Krist and Dave about $3 million+ each which at that point would've been BY FAR their biggest Nirvana related payday.
      By late '93 Kurt's songwriting royalties had started to kick in for real and he went from making a bit under $2 million in 1992 to an estimated $20-$30 million in 1993. So the financial incentive for him to tour just wasn't the same as it was fir the other guys. Especially since the real money came from doing festivals (which, like Kurt said here, he disliked) where all you do is show up with your guitars, drums and amps. No P.A. or lights required.

If given the time and the breaks and the opportunity to do more, could have become the Foo Fighters with Dave and Kurt switching spots.. it's so interesting to think about and very saddening that their art and music together didn't continue further. Just how sad it all is, so many what ifs.

    "I'd love to switch places with Dave"... oh my god, never heard that before! Dave has mentioned since his death songs of his Kurt wanted to do like "Alone & Easy target" (he apparently LOVED the chorus, but wanted to write his own lyrics for the verses) & "Exhausted". plus of course the b-side of the HSB single IS them switching like that essentially on Dave's song "Marigold". So amazing to hear what could have been part of they're future...

      I know what you mean, in the interview they did with Kurt Loder in 1993, Kurt said something about the state of the band after the year 2000 or something, and it seemed like such a weird thing to imagine Kurt alive, and still playing with Nirvana after the 90's. He really could be a forward thinking person, but sadly his inner demons, and the pressure he felt from the media snuffed that all out.

    • @TheWalkingDead4Media
      @TheWalkingDead4Media Před 7 lety +8

      Yeah, he was so unique... His interviews are often very interesting because he's so real about it, so real about the world. Not like other celebrities that just loves the attention. I'm not saying all celebrities are like that but I hope you get my point. Kurt was so unique... It's rare to see more "Kurt's" out there, because there won't be another human being like him since the one we had is gone forever :( Everyone is unique in their own ways, and very few of those actually shows themselves to the world while others hide behind a false personality.

      Hm, yeah. And because he was very authentic and what he says in this interview I still question the official suicide theory. He was on an all-time low in 1992 and early 1993 but after that he seemed quite "happy", at least not as misanthropic as he used to be. He still considered leaving Nirvana, but spoke openly about. So why should he kill himself because of that (remember: the suicide note mentions this as a main reason)?

    • @rowanb4395
      @rowanb4395 Před 6 lety +3

The other 2/3 of Nirvana? He wanted to take a break from touring & spend time with his newborn daughter & his wife. He just wanted to be a normal guy with a normal life! I'm going to put my 2 cents in for what it's worth. You wouldn't think it but Kurt loved the power he had over his record company and Mtv. He loved fucking with them. He knew that he was making a lot of people a lot of money so he often like to pretend cancel shows and then play them at the last minute or say he was going to quit just to get everyone all worked up. He had no REAL intentions of quitting, though.

  • @elm1230
    @elm1230 Před 5 lety +29

    You fans are ridiculous- “doesn’t sound suicidal to me “. Regardless of the particulars surrounding his death, there’s not always a clue that denotes that someone is suicidal. Sometimes there are no obvious signs at all. And to me regardless of what he SAYS, his actions and lifestyle showcase otherwise. He was an addict, addicts live in a perpetual state of self loathing. I have an ex who was an addict and he might of not said he wanted to kill him self, but then I had to call the ambulance one random night because he was stabbing his self. Living that lifestyle, on top of fame, on top of pressures, on top of extra crap, I can easily see an already obviously depressed drug addict seeing suicide as the only option. 9 times outta 10 Kurt seemed chronically depressed.

  • @khaaleliilighntingcoronado9009

    I'm wrong for saying but I'm glad Kurt is gone. It's wrong to say he had a family and friends who he LOVED and they LOVED him no matter how fucked up the relationships were in his life he LOVED and cared. That being said the media and the world WOULD NEVER EVER EVER EVER LEAVE Kurt cobain alone. Whether he quit music or didn't the world would never let kurt rest and be at peace. He would've gone over crazy and probably would've ended worse than how it did which is bad but atleast kurt doesn't have to answer dumb questions and play shows for assholes. He lives through his music and his daughter who is a beautiful young woman doing her own thing now. Kurt is dead to some but his morals, thoughts, beliefs and songs are well alive in 2019 and continue to thrive and help the world get a dose of reality when people discover a man like Kurt Cobain.

    Nonsens. No one wanted to quit anything. They desperately needed a break. 8 And they suffered the endless touring and pressure - which obviously broke over them unexpectedly). Bands have lots of breaks of all kinds. Nirvana did not have any. Apart from the 5 months between the two album tours. Where Kurt only ended in another pressure job of becomeing a fahter and seeing his relation to Courtney become questionable. // A break after In Utero would have saved the Band, and his life.

      Carmlita Olsen Actually, months before the end of his life, he actually kicked his heroin addiction and was clean! In Mid-1993, a doctor finally properly diagnosed his condition and gave him a medication to help treat said condition (this treatment was not FDCA-approved at the time). While taking the new medication, he steadily lowered his heroin intake over time to ensure that he didn't go cold turkey. He made a few mess-ups along the way, but by early 1994, he was clean! On March 18, 1994, when Courtney called the police on Kurt because he was allegedly "suicidal" (even though he wasn't), the Seattle police officers that arrived noted that Kurt looked completely sober and was neither high, nor suffering from withdrawal (Seattle is the heroin capital of the world, so a cop can easily tell if someone is high or undergoing withdrawal). During this incident, the police took away his medication, because it looked "suspicious" (it still wasn't FDCA-approved at the time), so because he had nothing to help him with his stomach pain, he turned back to Heroin. Even so, during the time his heroin intake lowered to an absolute zero, his tolerance level should have also gone downwards.

    He sounds like he's just going through the motions here. Telling the interviewer what he thinks he wants to hear or what he thinks would be the appropriate answer for a rock star, all the while knowing it's an act or that he's a fraud somehow. I still don't know why he mentions this in his suicide letter, but he somehow thought that he was ripping people off. Kurt, what were you faking? I just want to say that your music was not fake to me. It sounds more authentic and pure than 90% of what's out there.

    What was so interesting about this interview was Kurt saying he would love to trade places with Dave in the band. Of course, Dave would become the charismatic mega star front man with the Foo Fighters. They could never have both been Nirvana's front men at any point in the bands history. Kurt was too iconic and was the driving force of Nirvana. George Harrison couldn't take the place of Lennon in The Beatles and this is no different with Nirvana.
