I'm 29 and I'm one of those "old" people. Regardless, may we "crown him with many crowns" in whatever style we will, so long as the heart can truly reach out and fasten itself upon its proper object, Jesus Christ and his glory.
They added a Gospel beat to the incomparable Diademeta melody. Well done. The words are straight from the book of Revelation that depict Jesus reigning in heaven. You can't do better than that. Don't get conceited. Excellence transcends generations.
I think that's Michael Omartian on the piano in back with the band. To have them both on stage together is really epic. Between the two of them, they have done a whole lot of the heavy lifting in popular music that has a positive message.
No matter your generation, this is a beautiful song to the Lord. As you are partaking, please consider how much the Lord loves us all and our songs to him. If you are trying to make lines in the sand saying "the Lord loves this but not this", really consider who you are serving and whether you are fit to claim what He does and doesn't love.
Oh. My. Goodness!! THANK YOU for posting this!! I recorded this live on a vhs tape that has long since disappeared. I think of this segment often and I'm so glad I was able to relive my senior year of high school. 🤣
@@victoriabell9546 I agree with both of you. I enjoy the more upbeat version, but I want the 'old' people in the congregation. I am getting older every year and someday I will be the 'old people'. I hope people will still want me around, rather than being ignored as I die in my home. Alone. With no real friends, or without any one who cares about me.
Agreed, and I don't even consider the first rendition here "conservative." Too many vocal affectations instead of pure melody. I attend a church that is probably 75% so-called "contemporary style" worship music, and it's so refreshing every now and then when we actually sing a straight hymn the original way it was written without somebody rearranging the melody or rhythm for the sake of change. I wish were were more 50/50 conservative/contemporary, but you can't please everybody. But I am vehemently opposed to churches that have separate "traditional" and "contemporary" services, dividing the congregation based on that.
Steve Crawford. The four near the piano (besides Larnell Harris) were "Anointed". Sad M W Smith , that you don't like " the old people" and are happy when they leave the building . I love the old conservative and your contemporary version . It is just sad you prefer us " old people " to leave the building . You will be old some day .

To God be the Glory! Crown HIM with many crowns crowns! Guess what? If we don't, the rocks and hills will cry out.
I love this version. My dad passed away 10 years ago used to sing gospel music with a jazz beat. He would absolutely love this version.
MJ SMITH is such a G. I grew up on his music in church, now my nu disco records sell all over the world. THANK YOU SIR 🙏🏼🙌🏼
THIS GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS especially the piano part!!!!

I had the opportunity to play this on piano for the praise band at my church a few years ago. Everyone loved it!
Wanting to do this in church. Did y’all find the chords for this style?
@@TxgirlNwy I play by ear and just figured it out myself.
@@gregcrabb3497 that’s what I ended up doing. Was just trying to save myself the step ;)
This really lifted me up. Especially the Allelujah
Original version so smooth & pure. Filling hearts with LOVE of GOD
