well a lot of them were created in the early 2000s when comics were still in that really edgy phase
Edge was an active decision by the editorial and writing teams. They were trying for the old false equivalency between cynical, confrontational and transgressive and being "serious" and "adult". Like a stand-up comedian who's act ages really badly.
It came off as really adolescent for pretty much everything, but on Spiderman that actually works with the themes instead of against them. The adolescence, not the cynicism; they didn't really bother trying that in his books.
About half the terrible stuff there was them reaching for something they either though was topical, like Beast getting catfished by Blob, or an badly calculated transgressive joke, like Wolverine's tendency to date women a century or so younger than him turning into this.

To be fair Squirrel Girl is in her 20s now so it’s likely she was at leas 18 when they went out. So it’s gross, but legal. Furthermore it’s not actually confirmed that they went out. They just agreed never to talk to other again with the reason why being a mystery.
Ultimate Xmen as a whole was disgusting
I was in high school when this comic came out and I was like "eww." When I went on a Spider-Man binge a few years ago as a man in his 30s who forgot about this, when I reread it I was like "wait, WHAT?!"
