    I don’t think most Africans trace matrilineal. It’s only Akans when it comes to Ghana. Never heard of any other west Africans who are matrilineal, maybe Fulani. Almost all are patrilineal. I could be wrong but it’s actually Matrilineal that’s unique.

      @asanteakan70 Před 5 lety +1

      Eugene Sanou state the ethnic groups who were matrilineal pre Islam. There are many Christians groups who were patrilineal as well it’s not only Muslims. In Ghana GA, Ewe were patrilineal before they turned Christian.

    • @asanteakan70
      @asanteakan70 Před 5 lety +2

      Eugene Sanou that’s interesting I did read about those people in seerer in Senegal, I always felt there was cultural similarities between Akans in the old west African empires. An Arab traveler explained the a culture very similar to Akans. But I don’t think other groups from Nigeria etc were matrilineal at any point. I’m going to look for others who had it. We until this day pass down from our mothers side and our kings sons don’t become kings but either their brother or sister son from their mother side. No other group does this in Ghana. It’s also said we moved down to the forest to escape the Islamization so maybe there is might be something to this.
