    Using your lathe as a sanding planer is a fantastic idea. I’ve never seen that done before. Now, it just makes sense. I’ve learned something from every video you’ve produced. Amazing as always.

    Have you tried ebonizing oak? You dissolve steel wool in vinegar for about a week or two weeks, then apply the liquid to the oak and the chemical reaction turns it black. It looks natural and not painted because the chemical reaction works on the natural tannins in the wood. Not as dark as India ink but looks natural.

      @@mayukowoodturning7644 This video shows ebonizing oak vs India ink. It is a bit of dishonest video as he shows the ebonizing method on poplar(not oak) but the idea is the same. I had a drum sanding setup like that on my lathe. It worked fine until one day the tailstock end managed to work loose. (Don't ask me how, it was good and tight I thought). I wasn't wearing gloves either and the drum spun out of line, still attached to the headstock. It swiped the back of my hand, instantly taking the skin off the back of one finger all the way down to the nail bed. Fortunately it stopped there.
    It could have been a lot worse but five years later I still have a deep scar from the knuckle to the nail that will never go away. I finally bought myself some butcher's gloves to wear when sanding anything because of all the injuries I've had in 7 decades, power sanding tools are the worst because they're the least expected. A big saw blade demands respect, a sander is just, meh! but it'll eat you if it gets a chance.

    • @mayukowoodturning7644
      @mayukowoodturning7644  Před 2 lety
