    Thank you sir, Your videos have helped me make sense of the New HDS 12 Live unit. Recently switched over from a Hummingbird Helix. Night and day is the best way to describe it, I live up here in Green Bay,Wi. And fish the bay for Walleye. I’m still struggling dialing in the Lowrance unit. But your video has made the transition a lot easier. Keep up the great work. I would like to see some on the Navionics platinum cards.

      Thanks brother!! I appreciate that!! If you have a platinum plus card you can use sonar chart live. It lets you record your owns charts, but better yet it gives you access to charts that other users have recorded. It’s deadly accurate. You wouldn’t believe how much has already been charted. Just select community edits.

I got a 20' flat bottom I need to get a sounder on too just got to where I didn't care to try and use it, now I will.

    Thank you so much Mike. I have watched all of your videos in this series and it has been so helpful in using my Simrad Go 9. I now can see the correct imaging on the screen. Your explanations are very easy to understand. I fish in Ocean City, MD and the Chesapeake Bay and WOW, what a difference your videos have made in my fishing.

    I really enjoy your information. Why do you think Lowrance and Humminbird dominate the fishing market? At least where I live, I don't see a lot of Simrad - almost none. Mostly lowrance and a few Hummingbird units. I've used lowrance and hummingbird, but I think from what you've presented, Simrad looks like the best performer.

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 3 lety

      The active imaging is definitely the better than the total scan so if you have the total scan it’s worth the upgrade. However you should still mark fish with what you have. Here’s the link for the transducer amzn.to/2ErP9ug

    Love your videos MIke. I've been striper fishing up in MA since I was a kid and seems I'm always learning something new here. Love it! I've mostly been a spinning rod/reel user, but ordered an Accurate and hopefully a Striper Stealth rod if they ever come back in stock to see the difference. Question is, what do you set your max drag at on these as far as lbs go? Do you set them to a specific weight or is it just by feel? Thanks again man. Keep 'em coming!

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 3 lety +1

      Check out a video I did called “how to set you drag”. Sorry. I don’t have the link handy. Most of the time I set it to the backbone of the rod I’m using. I want the rod to flex throughout the entire blank and at least halfway into the backbone before drag pays out. If you are in tight structure or near other boats and you need to control the fish more I will crank it down well past that point, but that’s rare. Thanks for the kind words brother!! I appreciate that!!

      It’s my favorite for side scan. I don’t use it for 2D CHIRP sonar. There is nothing close to it for side scan. The 2D is pretty good, especially for the money, but there are lots better options depending on what you want to spend. These are a few transducers I use for 2D: amzn.to/2Y9stHF. amzn.to/34yILgl. amzn.to/2VhdytA. amzn.to/2BsVMud

    This is great dude thanks for posting. How can you determine how big a fish is on your scope? Will the same size fish look different on the scope if it's at different depths? I've been fishing off Destin looking for AJs and would love to be able to estimate how big they are. Size limit is 34"

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  Před 3 lety

      Thanks brother. You will have to spend time really paying attention to the fish you are catching to learn that. Keep your eyes on the screen as you bring fish in. Hold them under the boat for a few extra seconds and note the size when the fish comes up. Make mental notes of species and depths as well. It takes time.

    Mike, ya gotta help me out. I've got my Simrad unit all setup with my active image 3-n-1 transducer setup. The unit is running well, but my screens are never as clears yours. My down scan and my side scan is NOT clear. The whole image looks the same as the bottom on both the side image and down image. It's very had to determine where the bottom is and where the water is. In 5 feet of water is REALLY bad, but it gets better in deeper water like 15 to 20 feet or more, but it's never clean and clear like yours always seems to be. I can't figure out how to resolve it. I've even got TVG maxed out and I'm using the interference filters, and still it's all muddy looking. Please help if ya can. :) Also most of my fishing happens between 6 feet to probably 60 feet or so.

      Gotcha.Residual ringing. When the transducer produces (pings) shorter pings that don’t ring out for longer periods of time after “bouncing” back tend to produce cleaner images. Airmar considers them “cleaner” or “quieter” transducers that produce less “noise” in most cases.
