What he did with the original is why people who don’t understand yheir work should not remake it or do anything with it
If he would have kept that, made a fake, and sent the destroyed fake-he could sell the real one for a lot of money since everyone else destroyed theirs

I don't know if you have the Godzilla set from Criterion or not, but check your disk pages. the glue is coming apart on a number of them, including mine. thankfully I was able to get the discs out with only one being caked with glue. I reached out to Criterion about the problem, and they're sending me a replacement disc.

It sounded to me like you could either mail the (intact) disc back to them for a replacement, but then they offered that you could instead send them a video of you destroying the disc as an alternative so you wouldn't have to pay for shipping to send it to them (still kinda weird tho, never heard of any other replacement program requiring something like this)

They actually gave people two options. Either send in the disc as it is or destroy it with proof and that way you don't need to send it back to them.

@@mojosodope45 Exactly. Arrow have screwed up a few releases but they send out a replacement disc no questions asked if you have proof of purchase.

just curious as i'm new to the 4k market. if i have a 4k player with hdr10+ but buy a 4k tv which supports dolby vision would i be able to enjoy dolby vision or would the hdr10+ 4k player have to synch up with a tv that supports the hdr10+ and miss out on dolby vision. thanks in advance hopfully this question is not too confusing.

They’re not still requiring this. You just have to mark the old copy with sharpie with your name and the date. Then they’ll send you another, and you don’t need to send the old one back either.
Why On Earth Would You Intentionally Destroy A Blu Ray Disc?
That disc is probably gonna be worth a good amount of money if they’re asking people to break it. I would keep mine intact.

Tremendously horrible customer service. Stunning. For a company that overcharges at least double the value, this is insane. To think that Troma, Full Moon, Shout Factory.... oh anyone, would just send the replacement with proof of purchase but the almighty Criterion requires this, is garbage. I'll never buy another product of theirs if they won't do better than that. I'd definitely be getting my money back.

I had a problem disk in my Blade Runner collection that came with the plastic briefcase. It was a known problem. They simply sent me a replacement. Zero hassles.

Many years ago when I bought the Bladerunner 5 discs blu ray set from best buy and I got a duplicate disc. I emailed Warner Bros home media about the error. They shipped me the disc replacement no extra charge and the best part I don’t need to break no disc for a proof! Or to ship the damn disc back for a replacement exchange!
Those will be future collector’s items, lol.
Watching this video reminded me of all the videos that were posted last year of people breaking & smashing copies of "The Last Of Us Part 2" just because they were unhappy with a couple of decisions made with the story. And if we go back just a bit further to 2010, I'm reminded of all the videos that were being uploaded showing various ways in which people were destroying DVD's & Blu-ray's of M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender". I guess you can't please everyone.

When I saw the thumbnail and read the first few words of the title of this video, I thought you were going to cut this ridiculous packaging into pieces and then put the discs in a regular Amaray case.
Well, you can still do it in a Part 2 of this video. It would certainly be an improvement, as this packaging is just the worst.
Why can’t the company destroy it after they replace it? Seems like they could be off the hook now, legally
WOW! Wish I had known this. I got the email last Monday and the disc later that day. Just read it as send the disc back so I did. Oh well.

After the slip is removed, it's basically destroyed plus a shit disc placement. They really fd up everything about this release
I still haven’t seen what the contrast issue looks like. My disc looks fine so I don’t want to destroy it if mine isn’t defective. Can anyone send me a link showing the actual issue?
If it's on your disc, you'll see the difference at about the 30-minute mark. The picture quality is suddenly a washed-out grey look and it stays that way for the remainder of the film. You can't miss the difference - it was very apparent on my regular Blu-ray player.
Here's an update: I saw another review where the reviewer couldn't see the problem. Given that the problem on the flawed discs is so stark it can't be missed, it looks like not every copy is flawed. That might explain why no one at Criterion caught this.
And it didn’t even take 19 years.

Your first mistake was buying a product with those terrible disc slots as opposed to something a little less crap to hold a disc inside a case.

I watched the blu ray and it didn't seem out-of-focus or blurry as the media is reporting. Not sure whether to destroy it or not.
