  • Yes you read that right, actually 5.1 of these survive of 384 built. It is widely reported that there are only 4 surviving B-36's in existence but actually there is one more in pieces in Ohio and another being built from scratch in West Virginia.
The Ohio bird is considered the fifth Convair ( Consolidated Vultee ) B-36 Peacemaker and it was rescued from a scrapyard in 1972 by Walter Soplata. He spent three years hauling it in pieces to his property near Cleveland Ohio.
Walter passed away 14 years ago and the collection has slowly been selling its assets but I'm not aware of anyone buying B-36 s/n 42-13571 from his estate. If anyone knows more information on this aircraft or the collection could you please let us know in the comments below. I intend to go back to 51-13730 in California to make a better video of that Peacemaker with all of the new information I have been getting from an earlier version I made this spring. So many people have commented and passed details that I must remake that movie. Stay tuned.
Additionally a guy with a CZcams channel in West Virginia has scratch built the cockpit section of a B-36. I'm going to credit it as 10% of a new one. The fellow should get the same credit as most of the reconstructed data plate warbird restorations that are also essentially new aircraft. Many of the currently flying Mustangs and WW2 aircraft are completely made from new materials for millions of dollars. Brian has been building his on a shoestring budget in his garage. Check it out on CZcams at "Building The Last B-36".
Please hit subscribe and help this channel grow a little bit. I would appreciate it very much thanks.
