I have developed a liking for hot water instead of coffee and tea. I used to drink tea all day, at least ten mugs, but not anymore. I don’t like tepid or just cold, but iced water is good occasionally. Fruit juices can cause acid stomach. I don’t eat after 6pm. I’m coming up to 92 years old. Still get around, still driving. Have enlarged prostate and get up to pee once or maybe twice, not counting initial pee on going to bed. Like most guys, I’ve had a lifetime of downing whatever I fancied; it’s not hard to give up most of it now. I don’t drink alcohol of any kind now. Drinking tea black is common in Australia. I love cold milk but don’t drink. My weight is ready at 85kgs.
I take it all as a challenge!

I accept that my life will be shorter because I know that what I eat and drink has been processed in some way. That's the world we live in. It's like people who buy a refrigerator and put protective plastic foil around everything they put in it. After ten years, the engine is worn out and needs to be replaced, but the interior is still like new. What was the point of all that effort. Live your life, but don't make it too crazy. Go average.

I agree with most of what you say but not the part about cheese. Cheese is one of my staples, I eat it every day. But only cheddar, because I like it the best. It's part of my protein list. Cheese is so versatile, you can take it in so many ways. But maybe its not for you, we are not all the same. You may have issues which can't agree with cheese. Good luck with that. For me, I gave up all acidic juices long ago. Don't eat or drink after a set time, not even water. Mine is 6pm and the later I eat breakfast the better. Try it.
I have enlarged prostate, I do not take any medication, I have accepted some disturbance to my sleep but now only wake up twice . Keep warm in bed. I'm just saying this works for me.

My grandaddy drank one or 2 cups of black coffee every day all of his life. Also drank wine (red) or beer very often. Would occasionally drink sprits. He loved his cold shot of vodka right from the fridge in the morning, sunny side up eggs, often including a tin of sardines in oil along with it. Bacon right from the pan, absolutely NO fat drain. Also loved to eat raw garlic dipped in heavy salt. Did that often, even more so on holidays. NEVER had a prostate problem (that we know of) and lived to be 93. He did smoke until he was 70. Quit smoking on the advice of his doctor. He was not what we might think of as a "heavy smoker" --- he smoked like maybe a pack a week or less. Still lived another 23 years after he quit! We always believed that if grandpa didn't smoke all those years, he might have lived to be 100.

Fascinating! I've kidney stones, and massive amounts of lemon juice (watered down of course) along with K and Mg citrates are prescribed for kidney stones, in part because the two liters of water used to wash it down increases frequency and volume, necessary to dissolve the stones. This includes helping stones to pass through a partially constricted urethra due to BPH.

Something else that's related to urination (but not about drinks) is you need to keep your body temperature from becoming too cold. If you're really cold, your body will constrict its blood vessels to keep heat centered around your internal organs. When this happens, your blood pressure rises and that sends a signal to the kidneys to urinate. This is also why diuretics are often prescribed for high blood pressure.

Mike K: I agree with you. The approach he uses is nearing too restrictive for my choice of life. How about enjoying in moderation red wine with food, and citrus fruits that have many benefits and helps immune, the known benefits of coffee in moderation and the enjoyment of life keeping you more alert and awake when you expressly need it. We are body, mind and spirit and all need their appropriate nurture and "foods"... and just excluding some of the foods that helps make wholeness a harmonious living within is good in my view and approach to life and living a good life.

I was diagnosed with an enlarged prostrate a couple of years ago, and I have shown a few of the associated symptoms, but I had a reality check a couple of weeks back, I had a reunion with some old buddies, we went drinking for a few hours (beer), naturally I needed to pee, but the more I wanted to go the less I could and the stream got finer and finer until it practically stopped, I had urinary retention and my kidneys were still making urine,I thought I was going to burst, I was up every hour all night trying to empty my bladder, just a little drop at a time, only in the morning was I able to begin to pass urine a bit more, but all the next day I was still suffering from a restricted flow and a constant need to empty my bladder, 24 hrs later I returned to some normality and relief, I really need to quit drinking beer like that, it was a frightening and painful experience.

If I ingest too much of these bladder irritants, I have a serious problem emptying my bladder, usually at 3:00 a.m. It can literally take an hour and a half. I pee a drop or two, and repeat that, and rest, and pee some more, but then it is just partial emptying and I have to do that several times spaced over time. As a result, I have had to ban coffee, tea, orange juice, spicy foods. I can sneak small quantities of chocolate rarely a small drink of pop, like from those very small cans. By the way, Coors Edge is a very good NA beer. I can drink a bottle of that if I avoid chocolate that day, since even Coors Edge is carbonated...Sucks to be me.

The things to avoid to have an effect to the cause are dairy products, sugar, soya and anything that directly or indirectly amplifies estrogen.. There seems to be a bit similarities to BPH and diabetes. To avoid overweight and anything to do with insuline ampification seem to be trendy claims now for to reduce the risk of BPH.

I find eating fennel means I can drink my coffee and piss like a fountain, but plenty of water to give the system means to flush, & regular ejectulation also helps.
