Thank you very much for the interesting AD video. I have one comment about the service account. Microsoft recommends using Group Managed Service Accounts (gMSA). These have the advantage that the password is managed by Windows and is quite long and you can define the rhythm in which the password should be changed. There are two problems with an AD account as a service user: 1. the password for an AD account is rather insecure (usually only a few characters long). 2. if the password of the AD account is changed, the password must be changed everywhere where the AD account is used as a service user. This is not necessary with a gMSA. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.

    My personal opinion -
Lots of things should be covered earlier before starting the installation session -
    1. IDA infrastructure by Microsoft.
    2. Concept of Domain, Tree, forest, global catalog.
    3. Concept of security principles, inheritance, ACLs in Microsoft.
    4. Services related to active directory.
    5. How the server and client interacts and the underlying networking Concept of it.
    6. A brief about ntds.dit and sysvol.
    7. Concept of name resolution and WINS + DNS.
    THERE ARE LOT MORE LEFT...
    My sugession is -
Check the active directory global exam prep book released by Microsoft, Books written by MARK MINASI & AD COOKBOOK.
This is entirely my personal openion.
You can check it or drop it...

Is it really required for us to purchase Client Accese Licenses (CAL) if we are implementing Active Directory? Our organization currently have 120+ computers which needs to connect to the server mainly for the purpose of the daily operations using the locally hosted information system. Thanks

    • @JJFlores197

I'm actually labbing this at home now. Group Policy is kicking my ass though! And the instructor told me to join a new server to a domain but they're on two different virtual machines and the server can't find the domain I created! I'm using Hyper-V.

    • @thepokemondusknoir
      @thepokemondusknoir Před 4 dny +1

To get your device to join the AD server you need to make sure your AD has a static IP address. Then on the device you are trying to join you need to go to Network and Sharing center, click your ethernet adapter and go to IPV4 then properties. Change DNS to static and input the AD servers IP address in the first field for DNS.

    • @matthewd84

@@thepokemondusknoir Yes, I set all of that up. That was on the first VM. The instructor said to create a second VM, name it, gave us the static IP to give it, the dns address to give it, but said don't assign a default gateway cause we weren't trying to get out to the internet, then join the new server to the domain on the other VM.
