      Lol, I have also often heard people call it "the pig pen" because of the standing room only area (on the occupants) getting so sloppy. I still love visiting Hofbrau but will have have changes for in my rankings leading up to the festival in 2021. I'm still being optimistic that it won't require two years before Oktoberfest can safely come back again

    I really enjoyed your video. The funny thing is that your #1 tent is my least favorite. The Hofbräu (pronounced HOF-broy, btw) is probably the least local and is by far the youngest crowd. Crabby middle-aged guys like myself feel much more comfortable at the Augustiner Festhalle, your #10. The Käfer Wiesn Schänke is really cool and all the timbers inside remind me of our old dairy barn here in Wisconsin. How come you pointed out the Bavaria monument but neglected to warn of the perils of the adjoining Kotzhügel?? :-)

    • @Bigboytravel
      @Bigboytravel  Před 4 lety +2

      Appreciate the feedback! I'd say "Hoof-bry" is a bit more how it is pronounced in Bavaria, I mention that in my online Oktoberfest tents guide but used the international version in the video. Looking back at the video and can definitely see Augustiner being ranked much higher next year. I love the beer there the most and it's in my personal top 5 tents but in had to weigh a lot of factors outside of personal preference in the current ranking. With Puke Hill, I'll be adding it and a warning to not become a beer corpse on my 2020 tent video for sure. I had also fogot to mention in the video that the Tradition Tent closes every 4 years so I have a few small gaps to improve on for sure

    • @Bigboytravel
      @Bigboytravel  Před 4 lety

      Thanks for watching, you can check our our online guide about reservations, but in general you can easily hop between tents on a Thursday (weekday) from 10am until 2ish (sometimes 3pm) without any wait to get in and find unreserved spots. By that mid afternoon time though the unreserved seats and tents in general will start to fill up.

    As a local Augsutiner being ranked 10th is not understandable to me defently one of best tents in my opinion. Käfer is really good too but its not a tent its more of a hut more Restaurant like they should have one of the top spots. Augustiner/Hofbräu for tent and if u want a lillte more privacy and more Restaurant like feel Käfer is the one.

      I totally hear you and agree on Augustiner as we love their beer and the tent is in the top 3 that I take friends to when I visit Oktoberfest. Not really sure what happened that I let Augustuner slip so much in this video but it will be much higher in the next version. Looking back I think it was both due to a lack of footage that I had on hand at the time from inside the tent and some selfishness that I wanted to keep it a bit of a hidden gem and didn't properly share it.

    Your lucky if you get 2 beers at Oktoberfest. However, 2 beers at Oktoberfest is equal to a 6 pack and at 6 percent alcohol which is pretty high for beer. So its more like 8 beers. But its about much more than beer. Its apparently a life changing experience w ppl all over the world. I hear the feeling is beautiful and something unexplainable.

    • @Bigboytravel
      @Bigboytravel  Před 4 lety +1

      Not sure what you mean, Hofbrau has the highest % of tourists of any of the tents. As far as english being spoken, most people in all of the tents speak english since most Germans/Bavarians are bilingual (or at least close to competent), but basic German is still important since you're in Germany. With the music, yep you are correct but after 6pm around 40-50% of the songs in all of the tents are in english and the rest in German plus some in Spanish and Italian. Kaffer's Tavern is only about 30% songs in english or so. We have an online guide covering what to expect music wise along with the 30 most important songs to know about

    I am American and never been to Oktoberfest, but is it possible to build more Beer Tents and possibly expand the grounds of Oktoberfest? How large of an area is Oktoberfest in Munich? How many acres?

    • @Bigboytravel
      @Bigboytravel  Před 4 lety +1

      it is roughly 100 acres so it is pretty huge, but won't be expanded as the city is developed on all side.
      The attendance here is more than the 3 largest US state fairs combined, but if you plan ahead and visit on a weekday then it is easy to manage the crowds.
      As far as more tents, I don't see that happening as the layout lends itself to 15 large tents and 22 small tents already with 120,000 seats.
      The tents are rebuilt each year starting in June. Half of the grounds are dedicated to games/rides which is an important part of the experience plus every 4 years the Southern end is turned into a large agricultural fair (next one in 2020).

      Yep lol. I'm in Munich often and some locals really do say the hofbrau tent is for "stupid tourists" but locals still love the tent and "stupid" isnt a the same insult there as in the US or UK. The sediment mainly comes from the minimal amount of foreign visitors to Hofbrau that wear halloween costume versions of Bavarian clothes instead of the real deal and drink too much until they become beer corpes. All of the tents are a majority locals as 70% of Oktoberfest goers are Bavarian and each tent has a unique vibe

    If I flew all the way to Germany just to hear a band play horrible cover songs like Sweet Child of Mine, I would be SO disappointed!

      I've seen Gun-n-Roses live recently and they sound way worse than this cover these days
