This actually isn't hugely off from how bad ME was. A lot of people had to reinstall the entire OS practically every month or else face constant crashes like this. There has never been a worse case of "OS rot" than with Windows ME. I heard someone say it was because .dll files would constantly overwrite as you installed or uninstalled programs, and you would quickly get a bunch of incompatible ones. Someone I know who worked tech support at the time said it was quickly written into standard procedure to just tell people to "downgrade" to Windows 98 SE. XP service pack 2 was peak Windows.

This actually gives me anxiety flashbacks to my very first computer 😂 A pirated xp running on a 30gb harddrive (that was failing and sounded like a jet engine) and 500mb memory. Almost nothing worked properly and would give errors doing the most basic things and total crashes or bluescreens like every 30 minutes 😂 I would be writing in word document and have to click save every paragraph to prevent losing everything when it inevitability all froze up and needed a reboot. It sometimes actually would save without crashing lmao!

Nobody remembers Windows ME, for good reason. It was horrible. Windows 95 was good, but so old and not really enough people had computers to remember it. Windows 98 was amazing for the time. Like truly amazing. Windows ME came after that and holy fuck was it bad. Windows XP started off bad but they fixed it soon enough and it's widely considered one of the best and most stable Windows to ever exist. But that's just the version that got fixed. OG Windows XP had a rough start too. Windows Vista was a trainwreck and they tried to fix it but frankly it never did get fixed enough to be considered "good". Windows 7 was amazing. I don't remember if it had a rough start or not, but Windows 7 was amazing by the end. Finally Windows 10 had a rough start too but eventually it got ironed out as well, and now it's pretty decent. It's what I run now. But this is making fun of Windows ME and yeah that is the forgotten Windows for a very, very good reason.
