Extremely good work and honestly I've never been into Star Wars. Sci-Fi is my favorite, but Andor is by far the best Star Wars I've seen. I did enjoy Rogue One. It was really good to also see just normal people who aren't dealing with magic and don't have all of the power.
Normal people, the resistance and the banality of evil.

Exactly. I loved that the real villain of the show was just stupid bureaucracy and ineptitude and how it affects both the rebels and the empire. Also, the Jedi are super cool but seeing a galaxy full of regular people and how they move to the rebellion is just as interesting... if not more so. Thanks for watching. - de Janglez

Andor has the look and feel of Episode 4, and I loved it. I'm looking forward to the second series.
As for the fandom, I learned years ago to disengage from the trolls or the overly pedantic types and just enjoy Star Wars. We're not going to agree on everything so we shouldn't try to "convert" people to agreeing with us. Toss in your two cents, then "move along, move along..."

One of Disney's biggest crime was their portrayal of stormtroopers. Instead of making them act like trained soldiers, they took their stereotype after ROTJ and ran with it. They deliberately made them even more useless with characters literally walking right up to them in the open and killing them like it was nothing. And the characters even joke about how rubbish they are. I was so happy when the Andor writers rectified this.

@CinemastersUltimateTimeline I also liked that the majority of imperial ground troops looked more like police and when the stormtroopers eventually came it, the steaks became much higher e.g. when they decide usual law enforcement isn't enough and they need the army.

Just as a correction, Disney didn't strike The Clone Wars from the Canon. They cancelled the show (partly because they didn't want to continue the contract with Cartoon Network for airing it) and brought it back yeah, but it's always been Canon because of George's extensive participation in its development.
Really good video by the way, loved the distinction between 'fan' and 'fandom' section.

Sums up my thoughts on Star Wars perfectly.
Grew up with the prequels, liked the series, Clone Wars was cool.
Then when the Disney sequels started to come out... I just didnt really care...
I still liked Star Wars, but I couldnt really see anything interesting coming out of it, I'd gotten the fun I wanted from the series and just didnt feel any need for more, after that the tidal wave of stuff thats come out since has just left me kinda cold, made it feel kinda exhausting to even bother trying to look at it again.
Then I started hearing whispers about Andor, and how it actually had something to say, so I watched something Star Wars related for the first time since Clone Wars after coming home from school like a decade ago.
    And it was kinda amazing.

I'm glad you enjoyed the show, I did, too, and I'm excited about season 2.
I actually enjoyed listening to what you had to say about fans and fandoms, and I'm definitely one of those fans that the more I know about something, the bigger the fab I feel like, however, I am one of those fans who wants more people to join the fandom, to join in on my passion and experience what I experienced. But unfortunately, there are those fans who get too..... attached, I guess? And so people who look in from the outside thinking "Hey that looks good, can I join?" The fans that are a bit too much probably bombard them, whereas I (despite being very closed off) would try to be very welcoming and see what they think is interesting and maybe point them in the right direction.
I also believe that fanbases are considered toxic when those are actually toxic, unfortunately, and have the loudest mouths when the majority of the fan base (despite their differences of opinion) are most likely not like this, which is a shame that people only see the surface and don't bother looking underneath or deeper.
Edit: I don't know if you've started Mandalorian yet, but a tiny spoiler for S3 is that there is a presumption that it is a little bit about the Star Wars fanbase, which I found interesting when watching it.

I got into so many pointless arguments about why The Last Jedi is a bad movie. Now I just kind of don't care anymore. I enjoy some Star Wars projects and don't enjoy others. I do miss having something that felt like it was mine. I think toxic fandoms stem from wanting to feel important. "I put in all this effort but I'm expected to accept this casual who hasn't even seen all the movies?" But then that importance that you feel is revealed to be meaningless. It was never my movie, I only latched onto it because I liked it.

That's the harsh reality of art as a product. It's yours in how you interpret and enjoy it but because the art is commodified you don't get a say in how and what is canon and what gets merchandised. that's why a lot of fandoms have collective fan cannon. I think the important thing is to remember to share the love of the object... and more and more use collective bargaining power to keep greedy corporations from abusing the art for the sake of money. - de Janglez

@@CinemastersUltimateTimeline Fair enough ha ha. Just finished watching your video and agree with most of it while also having followed a similar path / journey in being a Star Wars fan. I was pretty much fully settled into my apathy which even while still loving the OT and PT, what has happened to Star Wars still affects me there as no matter what you tell yourself about head cannon, you cannot ever truly forget what you sat down to expecting to at least enjoy on some level but it instead turned your love for a property and every way you interact with it upside down. Watching Andor is the first time (apart from R1) since Disney acquired SW that I have felt genuine joy and hope again for new Star Wars to a level I never expected to experience ever again. Like you I’ve had to recontextualise and segment how I look at being a fan of SW so I can cherish what I love about it while ignoring the negative elements that I don’t need in my life.
I think gate keeping in a certain way is necessary and can be successful in protecting a property and it’s fandom. Not by gate keeping against other potential fans that may have a different perspective than the generally accepted one but against corporations and other entities that look to use the property and attached fandom to further their own cause at the expense of that property and it’s fandom. I think SW is a good example of one that has been brutally savaged and pillaged for a return on profit while also pushing personal political and ideological agendas. LOTR I believe is a good example where the fandom in unity has gate kept against Amazon to a relatively successful level in trying to preserve Tolkien’s work and world while Amazon try to rewrite history to justify their brain dead decisions in how they’ve “adapted” the material while still trying to pass it off as accurate. In Disney’s case, George willingly sold the property to them and a lot was shown to try and reassure fans the property was in good hands and so most people took them at some level of their word only to get severely burned once the true nature of their plans (or lack thereof) was revealed.
Regarding watching Mando, seasons 1 and 2 are a decent enough watch. When only Mando existed it could be considered mediocre to good at best in comparison to how far Star Wars had fallen but never “great”. With Andor out now there really is no comparison, I think there’s still enjoyable moments to be had in Mando s1-2 but it’s generally a more casual by the numbers SW experience that does well because it does try something somewhat new and interesting but never fully embraces it like Andor does. From what I’ve seen about season 3 of Mando I honestly wouldn’t bother with it and cap your nicely resolved story at s1-2.
BoBF is a cringe fest I wouldn’t touch with a 10ft lightsaber and I understand Kenobi has writing quality issues to write forever about and after all that I’m honestly not interested in much else Disney have or are releasing for SW.
My only other hopeful interest at the moment apart from Andor season 2 is actually a fan edit of Kenobi by PixelJoker95 who is a VFX artist that actually worked on Andor who is turning Kenobi back into a movie and does his best to fix many elements of the story and production, if you haven’t heard of the edit yet it’s called “Kenobi: Trials of the Master”

Excellent video. I'm a fan of SW but, my love really revolves around the time around the OT. So I know that there are other shows out there, mostly animated, but they really don't interest me because I feel they're really not made with me in mind and I tried some out but they just fail to keep my interest. I constantly felt like I was being talked down to in those shows and like I said, I didn't feel they were made for me. So when Rogue One came around I was interested in seeing it and I didn't care if it was a story about the DS plans. There are plenty of war movies that cover events that we know the outcome of, but if it's an interesting and daring story with great characters, then why not tell it. And that's what Rogue One was for me. A war movie set in the OT era.
I was making my way through REBELS because friends thought I would enjoy it since it's around that time period, but I'm still trying to finish it. Again, it's the talking down to me bit. I think I'm in season 3 or close to 4. Plus I have a problem with some of the characters being Jedi and all the Jedi, SIth, Inquisitor stuff they have in there, because in my head canon and going back to ANH, the Jedi are almost a myth and seems forgotten and unknown.
So when I saw Andor in the list of shows that were being produced, it was the only title I was interested in. Mando came out and it was all right but I didn't get any deep feeling for it, because the story and progression seemed nonsensical. It was just like a live action cartoon. That's fine. But when the first trailer for Andor dropped that got me going and everythign building up to it including seeing the preview before an IMAX showing of Rogue One got me amped even more.
Andor dorpped and I was pretty much all in after Andor kills the two security guys and the Chief Inspector totally calls out what happened and wants Syril to drop it. The writing, acting, production were all movie quality and I was there for it. I'm still trying to convince more people to check it out, but they're probably sick of me talking about it. But this type and quality of show is something that can be used eslewhere in the SW universe and I would be willing to give it a go. Like a crime syndicate show or a show that takes place shortly after the events of ROTJ... Plenty of great stories to tell.

I understand that the clown wars show was about what happened during that time... but for me, it was always tightest when Ahsoka was on screen. i am very excited for her series too. The Mandalorian, Rogue One, and Andor do not have strong solid stories. They rely on nostalgia. Seriously how has star wars grown under these series? We are still in the time line of A new hope, and the force Awakens. When do we get new Star wars? When do we get new characters? New adventures? The three Star Wars series I just named are still fighting the empire. How long are we gonna a fight the empire? Where are the Jedi? Isn't andor gonna die? So we're watching a show where we know how it ends, so what's the point of it. How does Andor expand the series? It's stuck in the ot. This is why Star Wars sucks now. It used to be about Adventures amd fun. Now it's, Ohh remember this? Remember that remember remember? *PEW PEW* Lazer, *whoosh whoosh* ship sound, and occasionally a Lightsaber.

It’s definitely a flawed film, mostly in terms of pacing, but to pretend the film is “about nothing” and has nothing to say is blatantly disingenuous or shows gross lack of media literacy. Episode 9 has quite a lot to say about blood, family, legacy and self worth. It’s honestly hilarious when people say Rogue One was good, when that film is the definition of a shallow, nothing film that has exactly zero substance but then lies about TROS being bad.
