@@helloyello182 There are these things called “paid” lunch breaks and paid rest periods. Usually these are supposed to be duty free and uninterrupted but an employer can require you to essentially remain “on call” through your lunch break if they pay you. What happens is if you get called back into work or have to preform a work task you will “clock” back in and handle that task. When you are finished, you will resume however many minutes are left in your lunch except if you had to clock in before the fifteen minute mark (usually) which in case the clock will restart to the 1st minute of your thirty, forty-five, or one hour lunch. While you are clocked in on your lunch break you will receive overtime pay which is either time and a half or sometimes double time. If you are unable to take a lunch or rest period then usually an hour of overtime time is just added on to your pay check. Labor laws and wage laws is vary from state to state but this is how it works in my state and is similar to most other states. But the general consensus is that meal break/lunch are considered wages and if you are unable to take one then your employer, by law, owes you compensation.
@@haileestuart14 I know what he meant. And it’s a dumb joke. It doesn’t matter if a fire breaks out on his lunch or when he “gets off at 5” or whatever. For jobs like these, you are on duty for a set amount of hours and are on call for the rest of the day. You’re sometimes paid for the entire 24 hour period or just receive on-call pay. But, If something happens during your “off” time then you would go back on duty (and start receiving overtime). I’m in the navy and whenever I’m underway (on a ship out to sea) or even on shore duty, we would have 8 hour work days followed by four hour watches. During those other twelve off hours if there’s a DC drill or, I hope to god not, the vampires start rolling over the horizon, then we can’t just tell chief or the enemy that we’re off duty. Kill or drill us later.

I’ve always wanted to do this kind of job. But I hear it’s very hard to get an interview…cause the job is so well loved that once the job position is taken no one wants to leave it.
That's a perfect job for a person who is a shapeshifter, werewolf, skinwalker etc.
“Into to the Wild” is a bold choice for a job where you’re alone in the wilderness.
Bro is playing Firewatch irl
Bro is in a good spot for looking for ufos
Farmers playing farm simulator in irl
I love that game
Car Mechanics literally playing Car mechanic simulator irl
Great game. Literally sat down and played it straight through in one evening. Never done that for another game.
Thank you for taking on the job of a look out. It is a beautiful place to work. Be safe out there.
Bro is living in Fears to Fathom Ironbark Lookout 💀
How freaking peaceful. Me and my dog would be having the best time
The alchemist is one of my favorite books! I read it with my parents in Spanish as a child and when I moved out at 18, my dad gave me my very own copy.
Yeah that was a good one but I need to reread it at this age
@@allenramirez2778Absolutely! I also recommend reading The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino. Another amazing book.
Should you spot smoke, do you notify whomever in the chain and then get to it and start initial control measures? Or do you maintain your position and keep watch? What is the expected timeline for assistance? Fascinating job! I didn’t realize any of the old (or newer) lookouts were still in operation!
He just keeps watch, they usually take 1-2 hours to respond
(He didn’t care about your question and ignored you and didn’t reply to you)
as an introvert with no friends... i'm jelly.. would love this job. could get so much reading done, and i bet the stars at night are to die for.
I’ll be too scared to be out there on my own. I live alone and love being by myself but out there in the forest will me to death 😅😅 Kudos to him.
I want this job! Man that’s so nice looking into the forest and being in a beautiful peaceful place while working!
It's not a paid job
Yeah it is , I’m actually the boss of the fire tower,

“Off at 5” glad the fires respect your work schedule boundaries 😝 lol
I was thinking the same thing what if a fire breaks out during his lunch break lmao
After 5 he's a cryptic fughtet
thats really not what he meant at all lmao everyone knows how jobs and lunch breaks work. @@RealShipmate
I am so jealous. I'm not going to be polite and say I'm envious; I'm downright jealous. You have the coolest job I've ever seen. As an introvert, it would suit me perfectly. Wow, are you lucky! ❤❤❤
Seems like a really chill and peaceful job
Never knew there is a fire lookout person….learn something new everyday
I would probably keep looking out on and off until I went to sleep... 😂 Thank you for sharing. Must be kind of a pain to get food up there 😮 but besides that, it could be cool. I could imagine myself getting scared the first night and running out of there. 😅😂
Man Id love to have this job. Chilling in the wilderness and fresh air and no crackheads.
"i wake up to this beautiful veiw" unless the hills on fire 😂😂
I was a fire look out at Tahquitz peak in California for the weekend. A few classes required for prep. Elevation 8,846 ft. What a hike up! 360 degree view! It was incredible!
So just for the weekend? It's not an actual job? More like volunteer work?
I would love that solitude and view. ❤️
My grandparents were stationed on Duckwall and Mt Elizabeth fire towers when I was in my early teens. I would get to go spend the summers with them. It was extremely peaceful. That was until my grandma would launch his pee bucket out of the tower. Those are some highhhhhhh towers and he was not about to come down to use the rest room as these towers didn't have any facilities. Good times!
....why was I never informed this was a career option. Science, security, nature, solitude...I respect the path you found, friend.
Love the “The Shining” reference! 😂
What was the reference? Haven't watched the movie...

@@memathews thank you so much 🙂! My brain automatically thought of it as a Simpsons thing (Bart's blackboard).
@@0randomperson Haha, that too!
I’ve been trying to find a fire lookout’s general daily schedule for weeks now and you’re the first one who’s actually talked about how frequently you check! Thank you for making this video, I know it was probably just a fun little whim and you didn’t expect it to make a huge difference for anyone beyond providing some cool entertainment, but you’ve saved me from having to abandon my latest short story!
I work remote, on Zoom calls all day; some days I’m lucky if I can slip out for a walk at lunch. This job looks amazing!
"Ah over there! Small couple trees-uh wind change and it's....its headed right for me. Wind increases and substantial spreading of embers AH JEEZ!"
Man sounds like a chill job. Nothing like that movie OUTPOST
He forgot to mention he beats off 5x a day
Hell yeah that's all I'd be doing.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
that's freakin hilarious! I can't look at the dude now! LOL! "Toothpaste rock".......my a__! 😂
Dude what else are you gonna do all day? If he was smart he'd take his woman with him and get some blowies all day.lmao

Beat Generation author, Jack Kerouac spent 63 days as a fire lookout on Desolation Peak in Whatcom County, Washington in the summer of 1956. He thought he would use the time to write. He hated it. He said he was never the same after that
You are living every introverts dream.
The perfect job! No coworkers, beautiful view of nature, time to read or write. I would be in heaven. What a blessing. How can I apply??? Lol
Beautiful scenery and seems like my kind of job!! 👍💙
Best job in the world!!!!
Reminds me of one of my first jobs in a nuke plant.
"So your job is to go into a plant every hour and check specific areas to make sure they aren't on fire." I still find it weird that paying someone $20 an hour to glance at random pipes and walls every hour is more efficient than setting up temporary fire detectors.
