Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro - Is it the best ever?

    I recently got to spend some time on the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro, and wanted to tackle the question - Is it the best ever? As a former Tiger 800 XCA owner, it was inevitable that I would be making comparisons. Although not intended as a direct comparison video, it may be useful for 800 owners that may be considering switch as well as people looking for a good all round Adventure bike. Power is up, weight is down and the spec is very high too, but what's the Tiger 900 like on everyday roads in everyday conditions far away from the exotic bike launch locations.
    Hopefully, I've answered some questions in this concise review, but if you have any others please drop them in the comments below;

    I traded 2019 800xca. Finding a significant difference in ease of handling, top weight issue resolved, very happy about that. Rides more like a big dirt bike, considering weight. Changed tires to Dunlop Trailmax Mission 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 hopefully no need to change for a long time.

    Another good review not sure how I missed this one and I definitely agree ,and I’m very proud of this bike being the development test rider that did the most development miles and my last project with triumph,I definitely feel it has part of my soul blended in , to the point I think I need to buy one ☝️

    I really appreciated the restrained positivity you shared on this bike. Other reviews I've seen people go bananas over the positive points, but your even-keel approach to the pluses and minuses of the bike made me feel like I was chatting with a pal. I've been considering a number of ADVs, but with everything I've seen and your review I think you made me feel comfortable pulling the trigger on a Tiger 900 Rally Pro! Thanks so much!

    Had the Rally Pro for 8 months and did 17,000km on it before it got written off. Couldn't get a another Tiger until May here in Oz so I went shopping with the insurance payout.
    Well I ended up with a Ducati Multistrada 950S and what a better bike it is. I really thought the Tiger was a higher end bike but the Ducati is next level, the quality of build on the 950S is leaps and bounds ahead of the Tiger and some of the design features are a real head scratch comparing it with the Ducati.
    Price wise the Ducati was $850 cheaper rideaway. If your considering the Tiger 900 do yourself a favour and check out the 950S before parting with your hard earned.

    Triumph has also made servicing the air cleaner a lot easier. Have they replaced the silly plastic handguards with BarkBusters or similar? I'm a 2018 XCA owner, am I swopping my bike no. I've altered my bike & done a lot of the things Triumph has done. Such as moving the front indicators & fitting upper crash bars. For personal fit, I've also lowered the footpegs & added bar risers oh, and changed the gear lever. So in short, I've spent quite a bit of time sorting out the bike for my personal requirements & I don't feel like doing that exercise again, well at this moment in time. I'm surprised that you faulted the XCA's front brake. I find it has a lot of feel & more than enough stopping power, but I predominately ride dry gravel roads and ride steadily on the tar. I also lowered the gearing which results in more torque at low revs & so you do not slip the clutch as often. I wouldn't want more vibration but as you say given the smoothness of the Tiger, when it starts vibrating I know I'm speeding & I don't like getting tickets. I doubt it would be a deal-breaker. Looks like a great bike thx for the review.

      Thanks Bernie, it did quite a few similar bits to my 800 too. I quite liked the fact that I didn’t think I would need to do anything to the Rally Pro. Maybe I just had a problem with my bike. The brakes were bled several times and new pads tried, but it never improved. It wasn’t awful, just not as good as I was expecting from Bremen.

    Good review. I'm one of those not convinced by the T plane crank. It's not terrible, I prefer the regular 120 degree triples.
    Yes, the TFT animations can look a bit naff, although I could live with them.
    I'd really like Triumph to update the Tiger Sport 1050, I like the shape, cast wheels (so tubeless tyres) and it's more road focused (plus in red as I've said before !), but it seems like that is going to be dropped from the range.

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  Před 3 lety +1

      Cheers, me neither but I suspect its to try and help with the fact that a triple motor isn't ideal for and 'Adventure Bike'? well for whatever offroad use it gets anyway. Maybe the new Speed Twin 1200 will form a base for a new 'Sports Tourer' from Triumph?

    • @karlosh9286
      @karlosh9286 Před 3 lety

      @@mancavemoto I'd have thought , if Triumph really want a twin in an adventure bike, well why not use a twin !
      They do have them, although maybe the Bonnie twins don't fit in too well in an adventure style frame.
      Me, I feel wobbly enough on tarmac, so currently I'm not going off road. I'd like more of a sports tourer, with smaller wheels, lower suspension and better handling. My Speed Triple with some bits added could do it, i.e. big screen, panniers, top box, and a better pillion seat.
      The Yamaha Tracer 900 or new 9 GT , could appeal, plus it's a triple, and the 2021 is available in red !

    Great video , thanks for putting it together. I'm looking into getting a Tiger 900, an upgrade from my vstrom 650. I'm undecided if I should go to a GT PRO or a Rally PRO. I ride 99% on road and the choice for the GT pro should be obvious. but when I ride on dirt roads, I suffer. The longer suspension on the really seems to be potentially more comfortable on the rally pro ? how does the rally perform on the road vs the GT pro ?

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  Před 3 lety +4

      Thanks, I guess it depends on how 'rough' the off-road riding is. There is plenty of ground clearance for gravel, fire roads and easy dirt. I think the semi electronic suspension on the GT Pro is a real bonus, its tyres that make the biggest difference for dirt roads. If 99% of your riding is on tarmac, then why perhaps compromise your comfort for 1% of your riding time? :)
      Having said that the Rally Pro is very good on the tarmac also, but the GT pro is a bit sharper with its 19 inch front wheel

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  Před 3 lety

      I don’t think they are ‘built in’ as such, its a by product of Triumph trying to get more low down torque out of the triple motor. I personally think a lot of the talk of ‘vibrations’ is over done. I was able to ride the Tiger and Africa Twin 1100 and KTM 790 adventure back to back, and there’s not much difference in the feel between all of them. Thanks

    • @karlosh9286
      @karlosh9286 Před 3 lety

      As Tony says , the T plane crank vibrations aren't terrible, but if you've tried one of the regular 120 degree triples, they're definitely noticeable. If you come from a twin, well you will not notice the vibrations at all. From an inline four cylinder, well all twins, triples and singles are vibraty compared to inline fours !
      Dunno, torque or vibrations, it's a bit of a trade off.

      Quite different, the KTM sounds a bit more agricultural, but it feels lighter and more compact. I'm more confident taking the 790 offroad (albeit easy green lanes) and although its punchy it feels more like a big single compared to the Tigert. I think the 890 would be a fairer comparison and I'm hoping to get some time on one soon.
