- After being signed to Frankie Valli's Private Stock label, Blondie was the victim of a happy accident. To promote the single "X-Offender" in 1977, they made two music videos, one of that song and one of "In The Flesh". When the Australian music program Countdown mistakenly aired "in The Flesh", it became a hit and a couple of other songs off of "Plastic Letters" like "Rip Her To Shreds" followed suit. Debbie and Chris had this "Disco Song" they had been toying with, but never completed. A demo version of "Heart Of Glass" that sounded a bit like a James Bond theme was subsequently given a new arrangement by producer Mike Chapman that made the song radio and club friendly. Debbie says she was tired of hearing about heartbreak and staying with a relationship and being a victim rather than walking away and she wrote new lyrics and changed the line "thing of the past" into "Heart Of Glass". The rest is disco history, Blondie had a monster worldwide hit and went on to a stellar career until they ran out of gas on their sixth LP 1981's "The Hunter", which sounded more like something you would hear in a cocktail bar. Not bad, but far from past glories. A long breakup ensued while Debbie took care of Chris Stein, recorded periodically. She did a demo version of a song that ended up with EG Daily's vocals in 1985, "Mind Over Matter" that can be found bootlegged. In 1990 Debbie and Chris, along with original bandmate Clem Burke and set about doing small gigs. The band reformed in 1997 (without Gary Valentine), released "No Exit", and got a #1 UK Pop Hit. They are still touring and recording today, their latest release will be out in January 2014 "Ghosts Of The Download". The first single " A Rose By Any Name" was released in June, 2013. I used elements of Blondie - Heart Of Glass Hot Tracks Remix, since the breakdowns the DJ did were so smokin hot!

42 years after its release, the popularity of this ‘Blondie’ diamond does not surprise me. One of the very best pop songs ever recorded.

As an early promotional slogan for the band stated (Miss Harry's fabulous platinum hair tones notwithstanding), "Blondie is a Group!"
blondie & Madonna are different types of artists! Debbie is unique & incomparable. Madonna's an icon in ever way, but Madonna's a dancer, singer & musician whos music & performances r polar opposites from Debbie! Madonna adores Deb & respects her so much . Debbies shit hot & wrote so many brilliant songs to be grateful for,. No need to drag one Queen to boost another. As for the band, ive seen them 6 times & they're unreal! seen Madonna too & was stunned, she was singing & dancing for over 2hrs. Clem is the God of drumming! the footage i got is awesome! Chris is so cool, he & Debbie are legends. Sad we lost Jimmy, Nigel & Frank. they're contribution is noted . What a band! glad i lived in the era of Blondie & Madonna!

Clem Burke - one of the greatest drummers ever. His parts were driving, clean. Was a challenge to be a drummer coming out of the disco era. His parts were energetic and not irrelevant like drums were, for the most part, in disco songs of the day

True, he was/is and awesome drummer. He didn't track this part live, though. He played the kick drum along to a click track and then layered the snare and cymbals over it on a separate track. That's why is sounds so tight and almost machine-like. The original demo is far looser and not as dance-y.

I'm with you on that, but I self identified the age restriction to avoid further issues with tight-"ass" commenters who outed me to YT just for that reason, that I was polluting the youth of today. I blocked them and did this before they could do any damage.
I was 17 when this was released. I lived in Southern Oklahoma, and often we went to Dallas to shop. The Texas radio stations allowed for the "ass" version, whereas in Oklahoma they didn't. Same thing with Charlie Daniels' "The Devil Went Down to Georgia". The version with "son-of-a-bitch" wasn't played in OK, but was all over the airways in TX.

Yep, apparently, this version was released in Italy. Sometime around 1978. I'd like to add this one to my collection someday. It may be called the long disco version, but part of the beginning has been cut off from that release? I like this one a little better than the Italian version. They sound virtually identical.
