    1. That first note is awesome
    2. Very ABBA in regards to the intensity
    3. My bad they weren't talking about a Diamond

Ridiculous. This song could have been a huge hit in the U.S. Certainly as good and as catchy as any dance song of that time. Also, have a listen at a sinister rock version of the song by Therion. They did a great job with it. And Jaybriel, the counterpoint instrumentation you picked up on is a fine detail in the song and typical of the type of instrumental hooks in much of Abba's catalogue. It's the type of thing that elevates a song from good to great. Finally, there's a longer version with a slow buildup before the beginning bursts in.

Good reaction, my friend! Two things- the dynamo is a reference to a giant disco light, and the counter melody that you hear is Benny performing a homage to his hero JS Bach on his synthesizer!

The counter melody you're asking about is Benny's synths. There is a version with an extended beginning, which they used more in the concert version. The song itself frustrated B and B. They felt something was missing, but couldn't figure out what it was, no matter how much they tweaked it. They weren't satisfied with the final version, which is possibly why they didn't include it on the Voulez Vous album. But it turned out to be a favorite for fans.

I like that counter melody, it's like a muted trumpet or synth. There is another version of this song that has a slow choir-like begining, then you hear that sudden burst of sound. This is an ABBA song with no vocal harmonies, apart from octave ones.

As well as what Synchronicity Man mentions about the counter melody, it is made by Benny with one of his synthesisers (he was a big fan of synths during the ABBA years, as well as playing piano [and some accordian: as per ABBA's 'Tropical Loveland' and 'The Way Old Friends Do'].).

Thats what so great with ABBA,ABBA is so much more then Dancing Queen,a song that, although its great and top quality, its also abit repetative to me as its heard so many times and so often reacted on...there are so much other ABBA stuff out there that also need attention,SO many hidden gems that few ABBA youtubers react on,although they are just as good and sometimes even better then their more well known songs, like Dancing Queen,Mamma Mia, The Winner takes it all. ABBA is much more then just a few songs that happend, for some reason or another,be played more often then their other very good songs... Among their great hidden gems there are songs like Hey Hey Helen, My mama said, Man in the Middle, Watch out,Rock Me,What about Livingstone, and others....I wish that the youtube ABBA reactors could do songs like them as well.

Well when I studied music theory I'd break things down to the 32nd note and break down every single chord. What I quickly found was that something so simple sounding can be incredibly complex. Now I'm not saying ABBA music is super complex but what I'm saying is although it's simplistic in form I believe a ton of time and effort or just probably raw talent was used. Because those things mesh perfectly. those random counter melodies sound useless but they're actually super important. I hear the big stuff and I know it's good but for me it's the small stuff that matter.s . That's the cherry on the sundae

@@jaybrielakoi7747 I agree it's the small stuff that I hear underneth that really make me like some songs and also makes me continue to like them long after I'm a little tired of them (If you know what I mean) I love the term "counter Melodies" (I am learning things everyday ...Thanks) and it really does mesh beautifully. I never studied music , as you have, but I think part of my love for abba is their use of melancholy chords . I really don't know if they're minor chords but a lot of their music make me feel something Thanks for the reply Bill

When I think of ABBA, I don't think of disco. I think of them having a disco album and a couple of disco songs outside of that, but even Benny and Bjorn have expressed an annoyance with being labeled disco. They certainly never considered their music in that light.

There's a heavy Bee Gees influence on this one. Both in the more breathy lower range singing, and production. They were reacting to the Saturday Night Fever sound. I like the song as I do almost every abba song but this was never a favorite. It feels a bit more derivative of the disco trends. Super Trooper and The visitors that followed reestablished the power of their creativity.

I think they fade out a lot of these songs because that was particularly popular in the 70's and 80's and was convenient in dance clubs and on the radio as they transition and faded in and out of songs. Personally I don't like that aspect.
