Good character writing just has to exist. In some level. Even if it's a kid show. Slappy is skippy's aunt, and no aunt or uncle is gonna treat their child niece or nephew with animosity if they came to visit them.
There is one episode that she throws away her soda in a neighbors trash can and slappys neighbor asked slappy to get the trash out of her can. and then hilarious stuff happens.

I think my favorite 4th Wall break she did was when she's taking him via airplane to see Bumbi's mom, Skippy starts to get sick and is about to puke, so she snaps to the camera: "Cut to the next scene! Quick!" It does, and the moment ahs passed.
There is even a video here on CZcams that discusses all the different times the xylophone gag has been used in Warner Bros. cartoons, but never with this twist! 🤣💣
Slappy will always be my favorite Animaniacs character. I'm kinda upset they got rid of her for a stupid reason in the reboot, to the point where she only appears once. Who knows? Maybe she'll appear again later.
She shouldn't appear unless if they get her VA back to write and voice her as with the OG Animaniacs, otherwise the current writing staff will fail her

I would definitely not know what the heck "Those Endearing Young Charms" would be if not for Looney Tunes. I also like how in her first episode she pantomimes Walter Wolf, Sid the Squid, and Beanie the Brain Dead Bison...only for all three of those characters to show up in later episodes.
Oh Slappy, I loved her she’s crazy. She’s cranky like Fred Flinstone but likeable. She would even do anything to make her nephew Skippy feel better like with him crying over Bumbi’s mom’s (Bambi reference) death, he was making a big deal out of it when it was just a movie. Which I didn’t blame him for cause it was really sad, heck I even was saddened by Bambi’s mom’s death as a kid and it almost traumatized me. She had her friend convince him that the mother survived to get him to stop crying at least until seeing another death happen in the old Yeller reference movie. Slappy even escaped from the hospital to be with him right after remembering him just after Skippy stopped coming to visit her which was because the social worker took him away to live with another family to take care of him. So yeah she may be cranky but she’s caring for her nephew and she’s smart even against her enemies.
apparently I was inconsolable while watching Homeward Bound as a kid when Sassy went over the waterfall. I could not be calmed down until I saw that she survived. I also remember being kind of terrified by Kamek at the beginning of Super Mario Galaxy and thinking Mario died. would have been a very short game in hindsight.
@@callmecharlie4250 I haven’t seen Homeward Bound before but I’ll look into it. I had Disney plus for a few years so I can find it there. Mario was unconscious for a moment after Bowser destroyed the planet FYI and blasted him away. And yeah sad moments can really leave some people bawling their eyes out. I still can’t get over that ugly crying Skippy did 😂.

Me neither. I wanted more cartoons of her since she’s literally one of the funniest characters ever. And they did remove Chicken Boo from the reboot, like Yakko said he was the least popular character ever, garbage. It’s just not the same without Slappy, the goodfeathers, Buttons and Mindy, Rita and Runt, the hippos. That’s why I watch the original for the fun of it and to keep their memory alive.
Slappy's concept is a very fun one A retiree looney tune who is showing the tricks of the trade to her younger bushy-tailed pupil while also displaying an incredibly seasoned and veteran view point to the typical looney tune formula
I was too young to appreciate Slappy. I always changed the channel when she was on. Now that I'm older.. I can see now that she was a subversion of old WB classics. All of the old gags are there, but with a commentary of someone that had a carnal knowledge of the old material. I gotta watch these. It's been a long time :)
Slappy Squirrel is a blessing in my life. She’s been my most favorite cartoon character ever since I got into Animaniacs. She’s witty, she’s silly, she’s smart, she’s savage, and she’s kind-hearted. All in one perfect fluffy package. Sherri Stoner is such an inspiration for me. She is my hero.
I'd be really surprised if someone hasn't made a compilation of Slappy's "you remind me of..." As a kid, I rarely got the reference, but the delivery was still funny.
I also think shes meant to have a resemblence to bug bunny as they have the same colors and even the body pattern having whtie down the middle and on her cheeks and the teeth..... i just realised

It’s kind of weird how high the animation frames were on some shows of this era. You’d think as technology improves, we’d see more frames rather than less.
For real comedy that could actually make adults laugh, we had classic Looney Tunes (not that fake shit they peddle today as Looney Tunes), Tex Avery, Tom&Jerry, Pink Panther, Woody Woodpecker, and… Slappy Squirrel. We haven’t had anything decent since… except for South Park.
Can we just appreciate she is never rude towards Skippy. They could’ve easily made her a jerk but is really cute and sweet towards him.

apparently there were plans to give her a spin off series as evident with the one flew over the cuckoos nest episode but they never got it going.
I think they were afraid it would end up being the only thing the world would have wanted to watch, and they would have run out of good ideas.
She's retired now. So she needs her rest.
