Got mine yesterday and tried it out this morning. Loaded a fresh Personna blade, cranked the setting up to 5 and got a smooth and super close shave. Love it.
I had always liked the look of the original variant but have been wary of the Parker trademark aggression. I was recently gifted a 26C and, even though I have a bad track record with open combs, got a great shave with it. It is good to see innovation from this established brand.
I'm after my first shave with this safety razor loaded with Perma Sharp blade Watching this after shave and I'm happy my first decent close shave against grain on setting 1. Previously was using Muhle 89 closed comb but its very mild and its worse shave than Parker Variant open comb for some reason recommended
How was your experience with your EJ De89? I've had that razor for a number of years, I use a feather blade. I rarely cut myself with that razor and zero irritation... price you got it for is basically a steal.
Really want to try more razors, i came by a ‘58 D3 Gillette executive adjustable (the gold fatboy with knurling like a slim) for £5 here in the UK. Had no interest in safety razors bit bought it because it just looked special. So glad i did, saved me a fortune in blades and has taught me alot about technique for different settings. Now i want to preserve it through using it only on special occasions and find another really nice but more replaceable daily shave 🤔
Got mine after watching this video! Love it with a personna blade and setting 3 for first pass then setting 2 for the 2nd. I haven’t NEEDED to do a 3rd pass yet, and my neck is super sensitive so idk if I will ever try it. I found the 1 setting to just be too mild for me, where I didn’t feel any blade at all until setting 2 or so. Give setting 2-3 a try, and if you could compare it to the Rockwell t2 that would be awesome!
I love your channel & not trying to bust your chops here. I totally get staring off on 1 with an open comb but wish you would have cranked it up. U said u had 7 days of growth but you mowed it down with 1. That tells me it’s very aggressive/efficient for a 1 setting and concerns me it useless for ED use. I’ll have to go rewatch your closed comb variant shave video. I don’t recall what u didn’t like about it. I use the variant on 2-3 for ED shaves. I like it better then my T2, progress, vintage black beauty. Smooth and very efficient. Possibly the smoothest razor I have for the efficiency offered. Can you possibly make another video of this razor on higher settings? Or better yet a variant Vs open comb variant shave off! Again no disrespect love your vids.

Good Shave I really like you're program and you look new in wet shaving , I know because the way you shave you're Head !!! But you're getting in to it !! One step at a time ... I just test the Parker VARIANT OPEN COMB , it's a good Razor but if you use the MUHLE R41 for many years like I do , for more the ten years you fine out that nothing like it will surpassed it plain simple , I'm 74 years old and shave my Head and Face for 45 years with a straight Razor made by BOKER grate Razor and then my hands starting shake a little beet so I change to wet shaving I have test all the Razors you could imagine until I got to the MUHLE R41 for me the best , but not any person is the same that's why you have Colors so you can choose the one you like more ha ha ha , back to conversation The VARIANT OPEN COMB don't get wrong it's a very good Razor for Beginners that's about it !!!!! Love you're program you are a straight forward person I do like that very much I hope for you more success in you're program !!!!! Carlo !!! That BIC Astor is a great blade. I was excited to try the chrome platinum in my Henson because it’s reputed to be the sharpest. I had one of the worst shaves of my life. I saw a lot of reviews that said the Astor was identical, but it gave me one of the best shaves. I think I’m sensitive to coatings.

Great video, and excellent review comparing the razors at the beginning man! I am with you, I was not a fan of the original variant. I have tried to use it several times and it's a blood bath every time. And before anyone comments, yes I made sure the mark on the top cap matched the mark on the base plate. I wonder if they would let me exchange it 🤣. Glad they improved the razor because I am a fan of the Company. Parker is a great company to have in wet shaving. Peace brother ! ☮
I’m looking for a cheaper adjustable. Obviously, the Rockwell T2 is probably the best. The Parker Variant OC is only $58 and the Pearl Flexi OC is $69. I’m trying to decide between the two.
With that bulky, i am surprised to see how to navigate that narrow place. Was actually interested in Parker 24c/26c, as that OC razor is gentle on the face. Great shave demonstration theremsir.
Just got the Parker 66R and it’s definitely more aggressive than I am used to (almost too much so for me). Maybe just need to find the right blade for it.
Try a supermax titanium or a treet platinum they produce great shaves in my Parker semi slant the supermax is very mild but super smooth and cuts well considering it's a mild blade. The treet is a mild to medium blade but is super smooth and just as sharp as a dorco red or Astra blue razor blade. And no razor burn, for me anyways and I have sensitive skin w course beard. The semi slant is a medium agreesive razor but I've managed to learn how to use it better and choosing the right blade and cold water shaves has done wonders for me.
@@CC-wolverine I like the Supermax blades and the Treet Carbon currently. Both are now working well. Treet Carbon was a nice surprise at how smooth it was for the cost.
@@colossusX1 if you like the treet carbon black beauty blades you love the treet new edge carbon blades they sharper have a coating and feel smoother as well. Treet has 15 different blade lines I have tried 5 so far and only one I don't care for is the silver carbon very dull and agrressive feeling tug my skin. I originally didn't like supermax blades but then feel in love since they a great blade just not a great combo for every razor. Plus better cutting and knowing how to use the razor helps too lol blade angle is most important thing learned the hard way

It's definitely a good razor. I like mine. It's not a Rockwell but it doesn't cost as much either. Well the 6C is actually cheaper.

Nice shave, but I'm interested on how aggressive it gets when bumping it up to it's max setting.

I tried it on the 5 setting this morning. Pretty aggressive, but still smooth for my thick and coarse stubble. Had a great experience with it.

I thought it was a better shave. It has been revised. Both are aggressive on higher settings.
