JOEY ALEXANDER : sons of the future
Joey Alexander 10 years old jazz pianist who start as a jazz musician since 7 years old
Round Midnight - Thelonious Monk (cover)
Armando Rhumba - Chick Corea (cover)
Giant Steps - John Coltrane (cover) - Hudba
I met Joey Alexander and his Mom last night ... he seemed very humble. I asked him about meeting Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter - he was excited that Herbie Hancock had surprised him on his last birthday by singing Happy Birthday to him. Wishing Joey all the best and good mentors and role models like Mr. Hancock and Mr. Shorter.
I wonder how many people can even comprehend the extent of this child's genius. He is completely off the talent scale. He should be handled with great care and protection. He is gift to the world.
So true.
Yep!! So sure!!!
indeed. Joey is a gift to the world. It is beautiful, beyond words. supernatural. God bless him for bringing happiness
I can only fully agree with you.
Alma Deutscher too...
This timing ❤❤ Here you could actually start thinking about incarnation. How is that possible? Others have been practicing for many years and never even come to this level. And this boy "listens to" his father's CDS ?! And after the self-proclaimed professionals claimed he was just acting out things, Joey taught them all wrong. Simply marvel at and experience and hear a miracle!
Not only is he a ridiculously good musician, he's freakin' adorable!
How can one explain genius? It takes years of experience to play jazz and yet he does this at the ripe old age of 10. Thank you Joey, you are simply amazing!
incredulous---can't stop crying with sheer delight!!!!!!!!!
This kid is a grammy nominee along with all super talented jazz players in the world. The difference is he is just 10 years old. So those who give thumbs down know nothing about music
Now he is 15. Born 2003.
Incredible! He already has his own jazz style!!! I can't wait to hear what he produces with other contemporary Jazz greats. Herbie, Diana, Chic,... Please encourage and support Joey.
C'est au moins la dixième fois que j'écoute ce morceau joué par Joey. Je ne m'en lasse pas... Quel talent ! quelle maturité ! pas seulement un génie, une grande âme, des étoiles plein la tête !!!.. Bravo JOEY !
What's also remarkable about him is that if he played "Midnight" a second or third or however many times, it would very likely be quite different each time because he's clearly achieved a real mastery of improvisation and relishes basking in the "unknown" as far as how the performance is rendered.
Check out his version of Round Midnight in the Live at Lincoln Center video. Billy Crystal emcee and a band of veteran Jazz players all shaking their heads. Between the two you get an idea of his depth of knowledge of jazz vocabulary and his improvisational skills. And insane chops
This "child" is a musical blessing. He plays as if he has been playing piano for at least 20 years.
Joey was blessed by the creator, to play like he plays, his dad and mom instilled in him, by his dad bringing home albums of the great jazz pianist like thelonius monk, Horace silvers, art Tatum John Coltrane, herbie hancock, billy Taylor, bud Powell, art Blakey the drummer. Which art Blakey, played piano when he first started out then he went to the drums.joey studies the great Giants that have returned to their maker. And if you listen to. Joey he always thanks god, for blessing him with hi talent that is what makes him so successful, he is so young and humble, and respectful that will carry him a long way in life. He pays homage to the Giants of jazz back when now Joey will carry on their legacy and add on maybe more and God will bless him. Thank you for listening my name is Maria.
When you hear some 12 year old girl mindlessly belting out a bland pop song that she copied from hearing it on the radio and everyone goes crazy, realize that this kid's talent is at least a thousand times greater than that.
He's really genius. I'm very proud of you because you prove to the world that Indonesian people can make a good contribution especially for jazz music. I believe that your talent is from God. I wish you can be one of God's instrument to spread love and affection.
Almost 10 years later listening to this and the genius and instrument of God continues on. Gifted by God ❤
No words, I'm amazed. Such a talent my God. Go kid, we love your music. Thank you for the great 15 min of your music
Joey - I've already commented but I so love your playing I listen repeatedly with so many questions about HOW you studied, where you studied, with whom, how many hours do you 'play'/practice, etc. Your improv is wonderful and shows a splendid understanding not only of staying with the original harmonic progressions but also adding enough of YOU to surprise and delight. I'm thrilled you're playing and hope thousands hear you ... especially young musicians needing encouragement. Wish you were in Colorado, U.S.A.!
A marvelous prodigy with a bright future..... a musical genius!
To bad all your serpent friends are killing the world, huh skippy...as of now hes already surrounded by demons in human skin...guess you all will have to morph him into the demonic and when you do i hope the Creator fries your fucking ass..
Joey, never, ever, stop doing this. You were born to play the piano. Awesome. I can't speak for anyone else, but I think it's possible some us of us adult musicians can glean a thing or two about daring to revisit the "kid" in us and allow ourselves to be more creative. Thanks for all you do, Joey.
I second that Allen. Was thinking the exact same thing. That pure place where this comes from. Joey is obviously one of those exceptional talents and is tapping into the 'source' But I think we all have an amount of that in us if we can find the guts to let it out....
He is awesome and he does have exceptional talents. Continue to do what you do Joey!
I've watched a lot of clips of Joey and was fortunate enough to see him perform live when he was around 13. Just found this video and am blown away...again. It is insane to see just how talented he was back at this age. I LOVE that he is playing with such chops while wearing his Batman shirt! If you close your eyes you think you're listening to a pro with decades of experience. Brilliant.
He is an old soul with technique and ideas to burn.
You took the words right out of my mouth.
It's always awesome to see a child love music this much. Kudos to him for his hard work and innate talent.
just watched this kid on 60 Minutes... awesome!!!
Went straight to Google Play and purchased the album!
Just heard him on public radio in LA. 11 years old and already inspiring. I look forward to hearing "My favorite things" album and hopefully a lot more to come after that.
Im so inspired and motivated from this kid, it only gives me hpe that anyone can be with hard work, a lot of effort and of course soul to be a great jazz musician
This kid is of the highest intellect.
What an incredible talent. Child prodigy takes on a whole new meaning. Incredible, just incredible. I feel so lucky to have found Joey's music!
Amazing!
Огромная благодарность родителям, создавший такое чудо. С тех пор, как я услышала его, никто мне неинтересен. Он для меня живой нескончаемый родник джазовой музыки.
The thumbs down people probably like Beiber and Miley Cyrus
john bethell That joke is getting old : )
john bethell n0pe..they are aijphoney users ...
john bethell
if briber could play like this and Miley sound like that i would listen to then every day all day. By the way those two don't play music, i call it shit autotune sounds.
Jazz is the music of the soul. Please try again
Hey I love jazz but hate those 2 talentless singers they are not even in the same league as Joey he is a Master
+john bethell or maybe think it'snot good for a child to get this kind of exposure.
Astonishing! We will be hearing from this young genius for a long, long time!...thanks!
This is beyond amazing!
Wow... already an old soul at that age. Love his playing. Been following his work over the years.
Amazing talent ... lovely ...
Awesome
Awesome just, just awesome! He reminds me of Christian Sands from my Home Town New Haven CT-who started playing the piano at the age of 4 years old.
Just love this boy Imagine the future !!
Stunning talent, chops and improvisational qualities. We can all only hope this talent will grow and flourish to the delight of all who are worthy of their ears.
You go Joe!
well what can you say about this brilliant young man our music is in safe hand for sure.wonderful.many thanks.
Il y a des choses inexplicables.Quelle oreille! Quel feeling. Quelle palette de touchers. Quel beau cadeau il nous fait avec tant de simplicité.
Les doigts m'en tombent!!!
If this is the future of Jazz, I'm all in. This is wonderful.
Unbelievable, this young master has been doing this for many, many lifetimes. Joey is not someone who plays music, he is music. No duality here. OM
Just wonderful ... such a beautiful talent !!! I am so happy to hear your music, Joey !!!
Absolutely Amazing!
I can't play like that now, let alone 35 years ago when I was TEN!
Can you say Phenom? I knew you could! LOLOL
Don't feel bad. This kid has been practicing full-time every day since he was a few months old. "Ordinary people" do not have that kind of time to devote to one occupation for their entire lifetime.
A fellow Indonesian!! he's a killer prodigy! this is such a motivation to me as an Indonesian studying Jazz piano performance! wishing you the best Joey!
and he did Giant Steps and put Tommy Flanagan to shame!! just kidding haha
6:04 somebody start an amazing and effusive applause, for god sake...
they tried to keep their jaws from dropping with both hands
Absolutely amazing 🤩
This lad is a born Pianist one of the best around
2 people are crazy.... This young man is extremely talented!
This after midnight is all time. Utter genius. No way to understand how he did this. Prodigious, practically divine perfection.

🙏God bless you Joey.
Enjoy your journey! 💕
oh my goodness what a young talent. Amazing!
I found this video clip by accident. MAGNIFICENT! Why have I never heard of him before? This is sensational! More please.
Speechless!
Joey, you made my day! I can't wait to hear more from you. And soon! I've heard plenty of kids with technique, but none with your musicality, sensitivity, and heart. Whatever you're doing, keep it up!
Wow. Was expecting something fast and crowd-pleasing, not something with such depth and maturity. Impressive in all the right ways.
Lovely take on a classic song, Monk would be proud.
Oh my God! He is amazing!!!!
Amazing indeed!
Anyone could build a world-class career playing exactly like this. And Joey was 10 years old when he did it!
Im stunned! Joey's fabulous! Truly amazing :)
What a thrill to hear. Not only technique but beautiful expression ... especially on Monk's piece. Will find out more about this wonder "Joey Alexander". - Great piano mic job. That Yamaha sounds fantastic!
Fabulous !!!
how come…!? I'm chocked! Delighted!
Uma beleza mesmo, Ricardo.
também fiquei impressionado… best, R
ps segues na TV?
wonderful i love it
Old soul in a child's body. No doubt about it. Just divine.
What kind of creatures who thumb down this marvelous kid? Is there any worse word than idiots?
Great video you should make more.
Amazing!!!!!!
Unbelievable! No comment for this kid.... OMG
Emocionante, Bonito, Talentoso!
So sweet! ♥
Amazing 🎼🙏🎼🎼
CRAAAAZY!!! A true child prodigy! Even Joey himself can't explain it and he simply says that he has a "gift from God."
Holy shit.
there are no words for this.... But I wonder who clicked on "I dislike this"? That is .... there are no words for that either! Anyway, thank you Joey! Keep on playing!
you've said it all here, agreed 100% - I suspect you will keep on playing, it's some kind of calling - just wow
Awesome!
this is the best proof of reincarnation. If you can play like this at a very young age, then I truely believe in reincarnation. If there is no reincarnation, how can a child play like this with so much emotion and directly from the heart...
I thought I was tripping when I described him as being reincarnated because he's definitely "A Chosen One" Yes indeed!!
Outstanding
Wow, amazing, yeah!
speechless...jaw dropping..
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Six people hit DISLIKE???? COMMIT THEM! They have NO clue! Joey, YOU ARE BRILLIANT!!!
I am guessing he walked up to a piano one day and played. That is a prodigy - a miracle. I am just glad he is in to jazz.
great job!!!
Owh!!! What a wonderful tune,,,,10 years old?,,,amazing n (scary hehe),,,,,awesome
I hold my breath!
Other than his play.. I Love his attitude when performing, for his age, he knows what to say knows what to do. Not only playing piano but also a stage performer and group leader
June 27, 2018
We are in awe of such an off-the-charts ability at any age, let alone by a boy/soul who in June 2018 just turned 15. The answer to this wonder is that we are all come from Eternal Divine Source which is inexhaustible "Creative Intelligence."
And individual souls prepare for their next lifetime on earth from the "other side." Some individuals have a definite destiny, for example, in music - even though, at the same time, as human beings we also have a certain degree of "free will."
The kind of talent for music that Joey Alexander has, or a Mozart, Bach had, or a Rembrandt, Leonardo Da Vinci, etc., cannot merely be chalked up to "science" and "good genes or DNA." There's too much specificity of talent that a generalized artistic genetic disposition cannot explain alone. Joey is self-taught and is doing things that masters playing their entire life have acquired, usually quite a lot through through formal training - Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, BiIl Evans and Herbie Hancock, for example.
Details that cannot be accounted for by a mere "random birth of physical characteristics." Additionally, Joey Alexander was born with "perfect pitch." Whatever he hears inside can be flawlessly duplicated, replicated, executed onto the piano. Very few, relatively speaking, have that ability (Keith Jarrett also has perfect pitch).
So Joey picks up new songs readily. And he memorizes songs easily. They're "imbibed" in him. And he can apply his God-given talent to the basic structure/harmony of music that he assimilates easily. One still has to work at their craft even though they may be extraordinarily gifted and talented. The fingers are physical and must gain superb technique to express what's inside the heart and soul. It may take hours and hours of daily practice, focus, but when you love something and it is your mission or destiny in life to bring it out to the world, it is a joy, a labor of love.
Joey says you have to love playing every note. He has fun. He exudes passion and enthusiasm. Amazingly enough, at such a young (chronological) age, Joey Alexander has already learned a key truth and wisdom of life: He is incredibly HUMBLE, grateful, gracious, and acknowledges the people around him first. This is something we can all notice about his kindness and glean from it.
Thank you, Joey, for being yourself! For as the joke goes, everybody else is taken. We hope for many more everlasting moments from your great inspiration and expression of life's "key notes." Pun intended.
Bravo!
Masa depanmu cerah.
As Indonesian, I'm proud of you...Three words for you little boy, You are phenomenal!
Indonesians should be proud of this prodigy. Greetings from Vietnam
Anyone who has ever studied and played jazz knows this level of ability after 4 years of playing is not even in the realm of reality. The 61 thumbs down are clearly from deaf mutes, although even Helen Keller would no doubt recognize how special Joey really is.
Yes! ‘Round Midnight, as Joey plays first, is based in Eb minor, that has 5 flats / D# minor, that has 7 sharps. One of the hardest keys in music! And he executes everything flawlessly
A young genius and one of the best pianist today. He plays like he has been playing for forty years. A deep chord structure pianist. I see great things for him. I am a Coltrane man and this young man has given a new light to the Jazz world. God Bless you Joey Alexander. Keep your steep jazz going and do not let rap or hip hop get in your musicial genius. Once in a while a musician comes along and opens up every ones eye and ears and you are that person. John bender III / T-sax
