When we put the point of the corkscrew on the cork, in the middle, we turn in the wrong direction just a little bit. This allows for the screw to get a better entry point, than we start turning.
Less of an issue on the modern synthetic corks, but on real cork it can help.
I’ve cut 5 very small serrations at the front half of the blade, just minor cuts in the edge. About 1 each cm. This is enough to catch on bread crust.
I took the idea from Victorinox own front serrated blades, which I consider awesome for preparing sandwiches.
A straight edge goes through bread as long as it is razor sharp, but very soon it will start ‘gliding’.
A good ‘Sommelier’ (referring to the corkscrew and not the person in this case), is a category on itself. The turns of the screw matter: all other Victorinox corkscrews are too narrow with too many turns.
This one is an extremely good one. It’s perfect for all I can tell.
The addition of a very capable long blade makes this a wonderfull tool.
Specific use only of course, but it excells at that.
Could it have had more features? Yes.
Like perhaps a more dedicated ‘bread’ knife, or a front serrated edge and Victorinox’ own cheese knife they include in another.
But still great, a professional bottle opener in my book. Even if not many fancy restaurants will allow their staff to pull out one of these at their tables :)
