- On Wednesday evening, five days after allegations were first published, Huw Edwards was named by his wife as the BBC presenter accused of paying £35,000 to a young person, for sexually explicit photographs. As further allegations emerge, the Metropolitan Police says it has found no evidence of a criminal offence and Edwards is receiving in-patient hospital care for his mental health after a “serious episode.” So how did the week unfold? And where does it leave the debate over public interest, privacy and duty of care?

"Unwise but not illegal" seems to cover quite a broad swathe of the immoral behavior on display these days. Where is the honour, the dignity, self-discipline, and honesty that we expect in human behaviour? "Immoral but not illegal" is a truer description and doesn't resort to euphemisms to make the unacceptable sound more acceptable.
Sexting with someone under 18 is illegal in the UK.
Some decades ago there have been terrible facts revealed about abuse...it seems teh BBC has not realy learned much of that disastrous time.

Genuinely cannot fathom why people are showing so much concern for this man yet so little for the people he used, coerced, and made feel uncomfortable in the work place.
If an “average” person had essentially funded his child’s addiction when they were just 17 I’ve no doubt he’d be baying for blood - and rightly so!
Yet because this man is somewhat well known and wealthy he’s allowed to skulk in the shadows, use mental health issues effectively as a get out clause and face no repercussions.

Incredibly well known and his employer + his wife both came out and named him, virtuously simultaneously. A huge shock
for everyone. He MAY have ducked for cover citing MH issues and is safely out of the way in a hospital OR he might be a
really genuinely sick man who his wife says has dealt with Depression for years on & off. He might have had a breakdown,
because of the tidal wave of bad publicity. WE DON’T KNOW ALL THE INS & OUTS YET !!!!!!

I think there's a pretty clear public interest in reporting on a man in his 60s, whose obscene wages we are all forced tp pay, DMing teenagers.

It’s both. Duty of care 1st and later in the public interest. Main thing is the honest truth coming out and facts not fiction or
supposition. If a person is mentally unwell and it’s serious enough to be hospitalised, give them some space. Stop the insane
clamber for salacious news. Has the BBC been thorough and truthful ? It’ll all come out in the wash - meanwhile best wishes

You have a very good point. It may be being used as a cover for inappropriate behaviours OR there could be genuine
MH problems which he just about managed to get through, perhaps with medication. Who knows what the real
