  • “I think the third instance of it now will reinforce in voters’ minds that sense of one rule for us and one rule for them.”
The Tory election betting scandal will cut through to voters and turn them away from the Conservative Party, says pollster Luke Tryl.

  • @RobCarmina
    @RobCarmina Před 6 dny +3

This comparison between 'Vote Share' and actual seats gained really emphasises the absolute necessity of establishing Proportional Representation in this country. The last election brought the Tories to power, but they didn't have the mandate of the whole country - they were a minority party in terms of 'Vote Share' but were still given power. The same happened when Thatcher got her third electoral win - the demographic showed that she had no votes in Scotland or Wales, nor the north of England - yet she still retained power. That is not democracy - and the Tories would never implement PR because they know they would never have power again - and power is all they crave - that and feathering their own nests, as this programme reveals.

It is the fact that they broke the promise they made on various issues important to the voters, including immigration, rehabilitating the North, better law enforcement, reforming NHS, growing the economy, and, above all, BREXIT. As a small mercy I thank the fact that in this country the period from prorogation to ballot is relatively short. Frankly everyone seems desperate to drum up some drama about what I think most people regard as a foregone conclusion - but there isn't enough time for it to get really wild. It wouldn't have made any difference waiting to call an election in November or even calling it any time in the past two years. The Conservatives are suffering from incumbency senescence and Starmer seems to have got Labour to a point where they don't scare the horses. I don't think it's unfair to say the Conservatives didn't win the last few elections, Miliband and Corbyn lost them.

I am pleased that you have brought up the issue of the ‘Parties’, this was probably the main thing that brought down Boris Johnson. The media was quick to latch onto the Tory parties that Boris ‘lied’ about.
The simple unspoken truth is that Downing Street it is not a small house where the PM and Chancellor live, it is a very big building stretching behind the part the public sees, it employs around 450 people, the majority of staff in 10 Downing Street are civil servants. Civil servants are non-partisan professionals who work for the government regardless of which political party is in power. They provide continuity and expertise in various administrative and policy areas, ensuring the effective functioning of the government. Civil servants (should) maintain political neutrality and continue their roles even as different parties assume office.
The ‘parties’ that were reported and lead to Boris Johnsons demise were very likely to be with people from all political sides, I would suggest they were not ‘Tory’ parties, Boris Johnson was ambushed into protecting his staff on what was perceived to be the Tories having parties.
So my view is that, at worse, Boris Johnson was trying to protect his staff (regardless of their political views) and at best, probably he hadn’t known that they had taken place, other than the one or two incidents that he was pictured in (parties, really?) after all it is big place and his accommodation was well out of the way of the offices. Most people would accept that he hadn’t organized any of the events himself.
For me, deciding to have a ‘party’ at that time was a completely bonkers idea, UNLESS of course you were so p****d off about Brexit and Boris that you saw an opportunity bring him down, armed with an iPhone to film the shenanigans.
I certainly know of one or two who have made no secret about plotting to get him out and have made it clear that their intention is to get us back in the EU (even if that means trashing their own party).

Interesting how they focus on the drop in Labour vote share, yet in the same week there have been other polls showing Labour with a 23 point lead. I do think we need to understand that these polling companies treat their results very differently from each other. That's why we should really stop the polling during an election because it risks influencing the outcome of the election. i.e. some pollsters may be more concerned about satisfying who they are producing the polls for, i.e. newspapers etc.

I wonder have we reached max Tory, to the degree where no matter how bad things go from now on it can't get any worse for them come election day.
People who still vote Tory after all this were never going to change the way they vote

The worst right-wing headbangers have abandoned the Tories in favour of the even more corrupt and dishonest English Nationalist White People's Reform Party Ltd.

Either several people spontaneously decided to break the law and place bets, or they talked about it.
Was Sunak in the room when it happened?

Here's a thought , if garage gets seats, lib Dems he seats , they could together bring about a better democracy, by getting rid of this divisive first past the post.
Then how many labour mp s would support real democrat change, even torys might support it once there a small party, that would be good news, gopf for greens too

"with Conservative don't know voters, we've found they're much more likely to think Labour will raise taxes" Well that's a surprise, it's not like you gues keep pushing that premise with nearly every Tory guest you have on, along with all the other right wing papers. Even this Video that is meant to be about the Betting Scandal brings it back up again.
