      Also saw him in Toronto at my first metal show opening for Iced Earth in 2004. I was there for IE and was just barely into Bodom at the time, but that show cemented my interest in the band. Saw them again when touring for Are You Dead Yet? a couple of years later. I still wear that old "Reaping Souls in North America" tour shirt from time to time. RIP to a metal legend!

      Children Of Bodom was much bigger back in the early 2000s than they were now. I have read tons and tons of comments today about how people got into COB in the early 2000s and they helped shaped their taste of music and I'm one of them. They were my introduction into melodic metal back in the early 2000s and I've been listening to them every since. And every comment I've read from someone who met or hung out with Alexi have all said the same thing. He was a super nice, down to earth guy. RIP Alexi "Wildchild" Laiho

    • @akrocanth
      @akrocanth Před 3 lety +8

      @@camaro25 similar story here. In Flames was my initial introduction to MDM in 2004 but soon after I discovered Follow The Reaper and HCDR, and those albums blew me away. Alexi was on a different level, he really was the new guitar hero for the 2000's era of metal. I sort of dropped off following COB around 2010-2012, but Hexed is really a solid album and brought me back recently. I'm also super thankful I finally got to see them live a few years back.

      Everyone here is obviously talking about Children of Bodom, but do yourself a favour and also check out his band, SInergy with whom he made three or four records. It's like COB but female-fronted and a lot more "powermetal" vibe than deathemetal. Great musical contrast and worth a listen! \m/

    Alexi truly was a maestro behind a guitar and I always was in awe of his ability to play, I even came up with a track based off the song, "If You Want Peace... Prepare For War."
