    This guy is a living legend to me. I started playing the guitar religiously after watching the Vivaldi-Cover of him and Alexi. Met him around 2007, when I thought it was a good idea to go to the concert like 6 hours early, just to meet Alexi. It was fall and it was cold, snow laying around. I had nothing to wear than a something wild hoodie. Roope came out of the bus and gave me his jacket, saying something like "I come from finland, I'm not cold, I don't need the jacket. We had a friendly talk and made a picture together. I still wear the jacket from time to time, even if its way too big for me. I love this guy. Sad to hear that he's having a hard time, I really hope he can cope in another way than drinking. There are some people you just want to see happy.

      I met him and the whole crew in 2006 in Detroit. He was super friendly (they all were) and we shot the shit for quite a while by the Detroit River. I had ditched Slayers set to go try and meet them, 100% worth it. He was just hanging out on this Schwin chopper bicycle (remember those things??). He had bought it becuase he was bored and had just been cruising around Detroit all day, and he let me take it for a spin. I loved the idea of this big Finnish guy just not giving a fuck around downtown Detroit. We joked around and had a bunch of laughs about random shit like Walmart taking over the world and running Christmas with Santa as a front and goofy shit like that. I was 16 at the time, and it was just the band (Alexi was in the bus for most of it though) and my friend and I sitting around outside chatting like we were old buddies. It was mostly Roope because believe it or not next to Alexi, his English is the best (at the time at least). Awesome dude and one of my favorite memories.

    This is nothing important, but wanted to say for foreign viewers that a lot of the times when Roope starts to talk, he says "No" or "Noh" which literally means "well". He's not saying "no" as English speakers would understand it. We Finns tend to say "no" before we start to speak. It gives us a small window of time to think about our answer.

      I've noticed something about finns, and russians too, for that matter, they seem to, at least the men, just accept whatever is going on with them, for example like if they are drunkards they just own it and have the attitude of ''one day i'll die oh well'' its very flat attitude towards stuff like this, meanwhile they may feel deeply about things but you'd never know about it. idk if i'm making sense but there's something about finland and that area in general that has this disposition.

Joka ikisen teinimuusikon unelmaelämää vietitte toista vuosikymmentä. Smile because it happened! Eikä tuu ikinä kertomaankaan ny ku allu on kuollu. Tosin eipä se muuta mitään enää. Ainut vaan harmittaa Roope.

    I went to see CoB back in 2008 at the Myth in Maplewood, MN when they were on Gigantour. I was in the area like 8 hours before door time, so I stopped by and was watching the road crews load in all the gear in the back of the club, and out of nowhere Roope just walks up from behind me and kind of leans on the fence, pulls out a pack of smokes, offers me one and we just start chatting and smoking a cigarette. He was super laid back and cool, no ego or anything at all. We talked about the weather a bit, he asked if there was a place he could buy some DVDs within walking distance, and I told him that the Maplewood mall probably had a few stores that sold DVDs. I told him how excited we were for the show and he was very gracious and appreciative that we came out to see the show. We shook hands and he went back in to the bus. It was all very ordinary, but I was super excited the whole time to be talking to someone I looked up to like that.

    Drinking and playing was so glamourised to me, thanks to guys like dimebag and alexi. I used to watch their "home video" dvds over and over. I got in a band and went on tour and realised pretty quickly that the lifestyle would kill me...
    I left the band, went to AA and got married, got a house, had kids... It feels like a gave up on my dreams but i recently picked my guitars up again, got some lessons sorted and im enjoying it again...

    Good to see Roope! One of the most inspirational guitarists for me since I was just starting my own guitar playing age 9 or something. Hopefully we can still hear something from him. His ability to think and create riffs, melodies and harmonies which are always just a little bit different and more interesting than what others could have come up. Tsemppiä Roope! Kyllä se vielä lähtee ja äijä ei oo yksin musaskenessä vaan kumminki suomen arvostetuimpia muusikoita ja metallimusiikin suunnannäyttäjä jo niin nuoresta asti. 💪🤘

      Because he was really betrayed by them all. They were a family!
      For many years they ate from the same plate, drank from same bottle, shared the same shower and toilet.
      Afterall they kicked him with no remorse after golden years of their work together.
      No friends do that. Real friends always try to help in need. Alcohol abuse can be treated.

    • @TrulyStucker
      @TrulyStucker Před 2 lety +3

      @@Somelights_NL yeah, makes sense. But why friends would cross someone from their lives for good? I don't believe it was just a drinking issue. That must be super serious, something unbearable.

    • @Somelights_NL
      @Somelights_NL Před 2 lety +2

      @@TrulyStucker Like what? Well, that's what Alexi said about Roope in his last interviews. He said that the alcohol was the reason for kicking him out of the band. Roope had heavy hangovers and sometimes he wasn't able to come to the rehearsal.

    • @GyroLamb
      @GyroLamb Před 2 lety +8

      well he needed them back then and they abandoned him can you blame him, he obviously still loves alexi despite that though, just band shit really, business ruins friendships. and alexi ran his band like a business, despite him being wild party guy.

    • @TrulyStucker
      @TrulyStucker Před 2 lety +3

      @@Somelights_NL it's just baffling to hear that 4 guys decided to cut off their lives their friend only because of alcohol addiction. If it really happened they never were friends, because it that way it looks like a business decision only.

    Siinä on vaan sellainen homma, että työttömyys tekee pitemmän päälle työkyvyttömäksi. Vaikkei kokonaan työtön oliskaan ollut. Kannattaa alkaa tekeen jotain muutakin kun korjaileen autoja ja kaljan juontia. Vedä vaikka webbisivut pystyyn toimeksiantona ja ala pitämään penskoille kitaratunteja hintaan 75€/tunti, vaikka 5h viikossa aluksi, se tekee jo 1500€ kuukaudessa, vaikkei rahasta kiinni oliskaan. Rikkaita faijoja kyllä riittää ja aikaa jää musankin tekoon vaikka kuin. Mä oon nähnyt kun jokunen, ihan normaali kaveri vetää itsensä pohjalle tekemättömänä. Ja kaikista pahinta on jos on vielä emotaalinen trauma jostain, että masentuu pahasti, sit onnistuu kyllä hengen juominenkin, sekin on nähty pariin kertaan. Muistetaan kuitenkin että toi alkoholi on hermomyrkky oikealta nimeltään. Vois vaikka kysyä itseltään, eikö tässä elämässä oikeasti ole enää enempää nähtävää, sitä kautta kelaileen asioita missä sitä nähtävää vielä olis ja mistä iloa tulis ja muistaa että aika parantaa pahatkin haavat, kunhan pääsee pahimman yli. Tärkeintä on että tekee jotain, niin kyl se hyvä olo tulee sieltä, hommat vie ajatukset muualle jne.

    Hard to watch but I too, like the majority of the commenters, have been extremely curious as to what the great Roope has been up to and looking forward to any of his projects. It's really hard to find anything on this guy so this interview was something I was looking forward to watching, especially since he's one of my guitar heroes. He's struggling with demons as we all are, I'm hopeful can overcome all this and get back to his music making self. It was difficult to understand what Roope was saying (booze demons) but kudos to the interviewer for trying his best to keep Roope focused on the question, great interviewing techniques but in the end, you can only do so much to try to accommodate for the interviewee's communication style/bad habits.
    In conclusion; Roope we love you and wish you the best and look forward to seeing/hearing more of your music. Please get better! Great job interviewer for doing your best to keep the interview authentic, great questions.
