  • Hello! I am sorry it has taken me so long to post another video. In this video you will find basic information on the 2002 Porsche Carrera 4 Cabriolet (996.2), fun facts, and interesting things about my (stock) car.
    *Note: Max torque is 273 ft-lb (I think I said 373).
    I am new to Porsche ownership, owning a classic car, daily driving a 20-year old car, and driving a manual. I am certainly learning as I go, but I love this car and will try to pass along what I know! I'm also sorry for the shakiness and tangents, I didn't have my coffee yet haha.
    Some things I forgot: It has programable memory seats/mirrors for different drivers (and keys) too.

    Nice video .
    Maybe a different spec in UK , in my 2003 cab the top opens and closes on one push of the facia switch rather than needing to hold it on throughout the operation. Also I can raise and lower the top when moving at up to 30 mph. One of the big surprises was the benefit of using the windstop , its amazing , hardly any buffeting . Great car, definitely a keeper.

    • @arcticmetro363
      @arcticmetro363  Před 3 lety

      Wow, that's so cool! I often wish I could put the top up or down at low speeds like the newer ones, but I don't mind pulling over. That's awesome! And absolutely, very grateful for the windscreen. It changes the cabriolet experience quite a bit! Not that its rough without it, its just so quiet and serene with it - lets you really hear that flat six! :)

    I believe the lowering of the top from the key fob is the result of an aftermarket module. Can you also lower your top from a slow roll without the parking brake being engaged?

    • @arcticmetro363
      @arcticmetro363  Před 2 lety

      Its actually not aftermarket, at least according to our Porsche dealership. I think there is an aftermarket module that will let you lower the top while driving less than a certain speed, which my car can't do. I've heard there's differences in US vs European cars with respect to lowing the top while rolling though!

  • @ChucklesVA
    @ChucklesVA Před 2 lety

    Great video! A couple questions - why do you need to lock the car to prevent the battery from draining? And why not use the parking brake? Just to prevent cable stretch or is there something else involved too?

    • @arcticmetro363
      @arcticmetro363  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you! Great questions, and I actually don't know the detailed answer. I just know when we first got the car we didn't drive it for many 10 days, left it unlocked, and the battery was dead. Porsche told us to make sure the car was locked. Since then, I haven't had an issue. As for the parking brake, they told us it would save the brake, so I'm guessing it has to do with cable stretch, but again, I'm not actually sure. Wish I had better answers for you!

    • @ChucklesVA
      @ChucklesVA Před 2 lety

      @@arcticmetro363 I had the same issue with the battery, but I never thought to try locking it - just put it on a battery tender. Wonder what the underlying is? Heh, 996 mysteries. Thanks again!

    I didn’t realize that the 996 doesn’t have an oil temp gauge. In Georgia it never really gets too cold and my 997 oil temp is still cold when my water temp is up. I don’t take it above 3k until the oil temp where it needs to be. I’m guessing around 15 minutes of driving. I wonder if bore scoring occurs on cars in colder climates where the car is thrashed before the oil temp is up. I’m actually looking at a 99 c4 in the same color combo tiptronic for my wife. Thanks for the video, I learned stuff I hadn’t heard before. The car I’m looking at has the hard top option so it’s cool you gave the info on the car having to have those latches from the factory. Is the stand you have it on from the factory as well? Is it heavy?

    • @arcticmetro363
      @arcticmetro363  Před rokem

      I wish it had an oil temp gauge too! It's helpful to know water temp, but I wish I could have both. The 99s are fun! Lighter and a little more old school (in a good way!). The hard top is handy in winter or rainy climates, but it IS heavy. A two person job, but heavier than I always expect. The stand I believe is factory. The stand is very light. I'll have to get a picture of it. Similar to PVC pipe in diameter and thickness (but it's smooth), just a bit heavier and has wheels. Never had an issue with it and very grateful to have a stand!

    My silver 996.2 cab also have different shade of silver on the front bumper same ason your car ... Is it from factory or its been poorly repainted by previous owner?

    • @arcticmetro363
      @arcticmetro363  Před 3 lety

      to my knowledge the bumper hasn't been repainted. There is a clear bra on it that may impact color, but that's an interesting question. I'd like to think its factory, but without a paint meter I really can't say.

    • @arcticmetro363
      @arcticmetro363  Před 3 lety

    • @arcticmetro363
      @arcticmetro363  Před 2 lety +1

      Very. I daily it in all conditions and it does amazing. The only two things I’ve had to replace are air oil separator and secondary air pump. My preemptive replacement LN Engineering IMS actually went bad, so had to replace that and clutch assembly but it was all covered under warranty.
