@@TylerSpangler hi Tyler I watch a lot of hand 2 hand combat video content and yours is one of the best it be great to see more on MMA and what is the correct moves only to use for MMA as some moves don't work. And as you seem to submit most with JJ be good if you went to all the MMA gyms and start finishing there top fighters lol. I would be interested in a video series or course on MMA from your insights
This is a perfect example that there arent any shortcuts in real Martial Arts. People dont see all the tiny details that a person builds over the years of training, but when they feel it they realize. Keep it up Zach, everybody gets beaten up at the gym!
"some fake choke i made up for the video" the hilarious quote of a new move soon to take over adcc...this is more revolutionary than the "mikey lock". Dare I say the "Spangler strangler"?
You’re at my old gym. Damn I miss that place! Chris McCune is just a fantastic guy and his gym is filled with quality people. I hope you had a good time!
You have some decent stand up. Good balance, strikes and solid kicks. I trained boxing for roughly 5 years before ever stepping on the mats from 2013-2018 and I am glad I did because I realized most grapplers NEVER even tried striking! Huge advantage even if some just shadow boxed and just hits the heavy/cobra bag. It's amazing I can still move the same way and have the same power even if I do not train it regularly anymore.
thank you it was a very informative video and very good technik, I hope your friend didn't hurt his foot badly... how can you prevent such injuries... thank you Greetings from Germany
The biggest issue he had at 3:10 when he went for Harai Goshi was not so much that his hips were too high because I'm 6'4 my hips are typically higher than my opponents. Hard for me to get lower so I use throws like Uchi mata or Harai Goshi to make up for that. His biggest issue was his grips. There was nothing he had to make your body want to step forward aka Kuzushi in order for you to block the leg step and bring the opponent over. You had all the leverage and your hips were low enough to counter and bring him over. I've hit Uchi Mata and Harai goshi on guys weighing around 300lbs in free sparring. As my sensei used to say when technique is done correctly "Uke is like smoke"
Hi, i'm a judoka, so not really used to no gi. At 3:15 if he went to reap at your ankle with his right leg instead of at your knee (too high for the angle he's at) would the throw have worked?
This reminds me of when I used to coach little league and a mom would ask me why her son wasn't playing shortstop? It was painful to explain that not all kids are meant to be baseball players and that maybe her son would be a great pianist........ If this kids mom approached this coach and asked what does he think........I'M GUESSING HE WOULD RECOMMEND THE PIANO......LOL
You are notoriously a very good fighter in general, and I really like your videos, it anoysme the fact that you are also a notoriously cocky person, atleast on your videos, still am a suscrirber and thakyou for the content.
Bruuh I just started to do mma. I’ve been doing bjj for 2 years and all I can say is goddamn it helps soo much. I do a few combos to takedowns and once I get the crucifix I just annoy the guys with soft punches till they tap 😂😂. I do get punched a lot standing though 😂😂
@@TylerSpangler yeah it’s definitely fun. I just need to get better at striking bc my face is like an all you can eat buffet. I just keep eating punches
Dude, I've been watching you for Jiu-jitsu content because I want to get into it. (I have a tiny bit of boxing/mma experience) were you supposed to be a jiu-jitsu fighter here or an MMA fighter? Because I couldn't tell the difference.
Hey man I was just curious if you could share your favorite single leg entry? I've been working a lot on my singles but my entries are kinda blah at the moment.
i really like you videos Tyler, but i would be interested if you are only crushing white belts (what do we not see in the videos)? I used to get crushed for my first year of training and quit like 3 times. but i didnt, and learned to be calm under pressure, or while getting smashed... then i rolled with a blackbelt who submitted me like 15 times, but let me submit him a few times and i was really able to flow with him while getting teached. he punished my mistakes, but not with pain, he only "showed" me. on this day, i leaned more then the 3 month prior to that. what do you guys think about rolling with white/bluebelts?
Pretty kind lesson on why he should sharpen his game before stepping into an MMA ring. White belt jumping into the game is either brave or dumb maybe a little bit of both. He should probably join a boxing gym to get his hands right and at least hit purple belt. His opponent in the cage will be trying to hurt him in the real fight..
That side naked choke is essentially a grape popper (or windshield wiper) choke from bottom no? I go for it too but usually just to threaten something while I try and get my guard back lol
That's what happens when you roll for years with Brock, every one else is easy after that of coarse that was a white belt. I lost to Brock in a tournament in 2002 got second.
Good luck Zach on your MMA match. Tyler put a good beating on him but I think there is no shame in being handled by a black belt. I'm sure against someone on his skill level, Zach will put a great performance.
How do you know he’s not gonna fight a black belt ? Or a Muay Thai champion ?? Or a d1 wrestler ,, lol there’s very slim chance that 2 fighters are on the same level , just gotta keep grinding
@@chokeeartist surely maybe he will fight any of those. But when we compete we go to test ourselves, whether we win or we lose. Sometimes you get your ass beat in the process also. All you can do is perform as well as you can.
Hey, ive been wanting to train mma for a long time but im from portugal and theres not many gyms that acctualy have a good quality for that and its pretty hard to go far living here, and also because of me being still under age im 16 years old. So i wanted to start in another sport that i could make my base to mma and i wanted a striking one im just indecise, i was thinking about kick boxing im just not sure if its a good one for mma, since a portguese guy andre fialho that is on ufc for example he started with boxing and also mcregor started with boxing before moving to mma, but i also wanted to start developing my kicks cuz in my opinion its a rly strong technic to have.
Why do you think there has never been a straight ankle lock sub in UFC? Is it that fighters there are not good enough grapplers? Or is it that this is mainly "pain based" and tapping to it is an equivalent to tapping to strikes? I love straight ankle lock myself, it's probably my top 3 submission, and also I frequently tap to it when it's done belly down on me because it sure does feel like the foot is about to break. But there's a big difference between heel hook and straight ankle lock in that there's plenty of footage on the internet where the heel hook really results in a catastrophic failure, but I've never seen such a failure with straight ankle lock (there are high level bij matches finished with straight ankle lock, and often the defeated person limps around afterwards, but I've never seen an actual break happening)
I think a lot of it is pain tolerance, yes, but I also think it’s completely taught wrong by most people. I watched a few videos on it that showed it right and it is night and day different. I’ve learned it in gyms and you can barely feel it. Also, footlocks in mma are generally bad because of the whole two hands on one foot while they punch you part
@@TylerSpangler Do you think you'd actually break something with your straight ankle lock on an opponent who's say from one weight class above you who's flexible (not crazy flexilble, but say Gordon Ryan flexible)? I get taps from straight ankle locks on bigger people, but to be honest I'm not sure if this isn't only a pain sub in my case
I'll answer myself: czcams.com/video/VuCRNr5IXw0/video.html Funny that it's almost exactly what I asked for: one weight class difference, smaller guy breaks a foot of a very competent larger guy with a variation of straight ankle lock
