- When motorsports is the focus, very little piques the interest like the McLaren F1 GTR. It made an instant impact on Le Mans in 1995, and will forever be remembered in that light. Enjoy three minutes of pure adrenaline with Bill Auberlen piloting one of the greatest cars ever made.

Can we talk about his footwork? Absolutely extraordinary timing on every up- and down-shift. Stunning speed.
I haven't seen heel-toeing that sweet since Senna's loafers in the NSX!
Check out Keiichi Tsuchiya heel and toe very fast
It's Senna 59th. birthday today. Legend.
watch the footcam of a v8 supercar at bathurst
Senna was the best
Loads of people can heel and toe like this
Never say a Mclaren F1 sounds like an aventador.....
*The aventador sounds like the Mclaren F1*
Felix hell yea
The Mclaren sounds like 750/850i 😂🤫
True
Felix like m73b54 engine.
The f1 sounds like bmw e31
Incredible heel toe and driving.....just amazing
kevin Lips what video did u see
I can't heel toe for shit with my stock pedal arrangement, so I press the brake with the ball of my foot and rev match with the outside of my foot 😂😂😂
@@rhubarbpie2027 I never heel and toe because I dont drive in the race tracks
@@DuBstep115 same. I rev-match downshift every time. But heel-toe downshifting is completely unnecessary except when at the limit driving, i.e. entering a turn at near redline, then needing to brake and downshift/rev match while braking. For street driving you just rev match and downshift prior to braking and cornering.
@@Patrick94GSR Or driving down the hill with curvy roads then you need to brake and downshift at the same time. But I live in the country where is no ups and downs :D
rev-matching is bread and butter when driving a manual but in commute driving its pretty obsolete too. When coming to traffic lights I dont rev match from 3 to 2 and then 1st. I just dip the clutch in and brake because I am lazy and brake pads are cheap af.
When you're 3 minutes into the vid and eventually notice there's a lucky passenger...
313power Dumass i noticed the first 30 sec
@@jesusfernandez3065 How does his comment make him a dumbass? 😢
Oh shit
tonytober yea 😩😢

Took me about two minutes to realize theres a passenger lol
Damn. Thanks for this comment
can't believe that i didnt
Me 2 because I read your comment at 2:02 😂😂
Good eye!!
Tf did not see passanger at all until read your comment lol
I don't know if you've just not watched enough porn, but if I can see the dude, it's not POV.
Tell them Jon!
i think its POV from the right seat...
i mean pov just means point of view, so its pov from the inside of the car
Notice there is a backseat passenger on the left... POV from the right seat passenger. It’s a ride along car
Exactly :D With this POV would crush in the first corner :D
I would literally cry if I ever have the opportunity to be in a McLaren F1 GTR even as a passenger, and feel that beast go full throttle. It's my all time dream.
Beautiful footwork! what a good performance from traditional H pattern gearbox, before paddle shift & sequential gearbox taken place.
jun kit low A Beautiful footwork ? 🤣🤣🤣
Amateur!!
No heel to toe. He's just an amateur with money.
Pablo Espinoza that’s right 🤙🏼
@@pabloespinoza9046 what are talking about no heel toe? Did you see the way he was braking and bliping the throttle simultaneously? Everyone has their own method it doesn't have to literally mean heels and toes. Rolling your foot over works just the same I do it too.
Amateur? Really?? BIll Auberlen has been a professional sports car racer for over 30 years, much of that time as a factory driver for BMW.
Mclaren F1 will for ever be the “KING” of all Supercars.

Why 'was'?
0:25 did the guy just banged off the rev limiter of an *McLaren F1?!?*
I LOVED IT!!!! ❤️🤤
I’ve replayed the start like 100 times
i need this kind of confidencce in my life
The road going F1 held the top speed record for 10 years at 240 MPH. Still a record for a naturally aspirated road engine (BMW V12). One of the greatest cars of the 20th century.
Fascinating, especially the short-shifting into 4th and not down-shifting to 2nd when I thought he would. The GTR is legendary for having so much torque that I'm sure he had what he needed in those corners even without being that high in the rev range.
Thatswhy its my heart.
It's also due to these classic race cars, especially the F1 GTR being priceless, they often short shift to preserve the engine. You see it a lot on classic race car drives, I forget the name of the channel, but they take a lot of classic race cars on laguna seca, and you always see the driver short shift them.
@@carscoffeeandcannabis-634 you mean The Racer Channel?
It's also under 3k with 600+hp so good power to weight rstio
I believe that is also a good method not to work throttle on "low" speeds too much. Low rpm - less torque - less chance to spin out working throttle hard on high revs with tons of tourque. That's even more believable with slicks and near-slicks. (IMHO)
That footwork and sound 😍
It's great to see a manual gearbox in action. Thought it was a dead technology in mega cars but Pagani will be introducing one for the Huayra.
How do you know?
I hope u r right.
@@Robert-Cinque777 I was talking to a representative on the pagani stand at the 2019 Geneva motorshow. He told me they were working on a manual gearbox option.
@@MosesKaldor Damn, cool! I had no idea. Imagine if Koenigsegg offered one again. Their cars are probably way too powerful for that, though.
Merc develops paganis and they’re gonna offer a manual gear box in 2021 when merc hasn’t offered one in years?🤔 there’s gonna be problems . Especially with that level of power and such strict emissions I will bank they will only offer a manual gear box for one generation until Mercedes remembers why they don’t develop their own.
To be honest, Pagani should have always stuck to the manual box on the Huayra from Day 1. Single clutches are just not good enough.
Oh and the Huayra R comes with a NATURALLY ASPIRATED V12.
Guessing CZcams recommended this because I've watched Doug's F1 video.
same
Same. But while you’re at it, go check out Top Gear’s F1 vs Veyron race. These cars are phenomenal.
I also recommend some of the EVO videos on the McLaren F1. They did some good walk-arounds of the car and touch on some smaller details that even Doug didn’t do. It's a brilliant feat of engineering and was so ahead of it's time, even today almost 3 decades later it is a force to be reckoned with
Arguably the best onboard video on CZcams + no adverts until the end!
Must've seen this about a hundred times now- pure brilliant driving!
Same here, when I need to hear a great engine I always come back to this video and the one where Hakinnen drives at Laguna Seca.
My all time favorite car.
That howl has to be one of the very best sounds of any engine! The super-quick shifts were enjoyable as well 😉. Please post the next time you plan to take the this GTR on track, as I would like to be there in person!
The sound, the foot work.... Goosebumps!
loved when he passed the 650s' gramps showing the kids how it's done 🏎
Not gramps. Car Jesus himself.
HUGE thank you for the experience of PURE sound only. What music to my ears, and a professional driver to boot !
My favorite car of all time. F40 is a close second. Watching this it seems odd to me that this car was not fitted with a dog box which would enable clutchless up and downshifts ( and left foot braking ). I think weismann designed the street car gearbox so it would be no big deal at all for them to build a dog box for it. Still, i’m really glad there isn’t a sequential box in it
They built those in later versions of the GTR. The first one, the one that won Le Mans, was a very rushed effort. They had like 1 day of wind tunnel testing (lack of facilities), didn't even have a front splitter, retained the road car's steering rack and the original transmission. In fact, it was said that it's nose actually made a bit of lift at top speed. And with all that it still won Le Mans.
You gotta watch this video twice. Once watching his feet and the other watching him drive.
Very cool.
Best car ever.
True Gem this video! Really shows the evolution of racing and the beautiful harmony of track, racer, and car!
I try to practice heel and toe techniques once and i just kiss a lorry and a van kiss my butt.
depends on car. this happens when you try it on diesels with heavy flywheels who don't rev quickly.
I'm not a pro but my advise would be to first practice rev matching on downshift alone.
That is, when you're ready to downshift and DO NOT NEED TO BRAKE, press your clutch pedal, give it some gas trying to rev match where you think your RPM's will land once you release the clutch, then shift to the previous gear, and finally release your clutch.
Once you dominate rev matching, then add braking between the process and you will have the basics for heel and toe. That's how I learned :)
Rev matching are better used for diesel trucks and vans.
what a rev match!!! 👽
totally on full mind control. that is insane. great racer 🔥🔥
That is the best looking cockpit I've seen. All business!
Often come back just to rewatch again and again
That launch in the pits. It feels soo good to see someone drive an F1 Mclaren like a Honda.
Wish I could drive like that damm
Practice practice practice practice
That BMW v12 🤤
Jack Meov It is BMW badge, but the engine was developed by McLaren, like the Merc SLR. BMW MADE great blocks.
XstonedmonkeyzX no the engine is a BMW engine McLaren had nothing to do with it they just wanted it in their car BMW built the engine before McLaren built the f1
Jack Meov True, the engine is derived from an M70 v12. But the specific design engine for this car was made by Gordon Murray. He told BMW how he wanted the engine. But was completely built by BMW.
Jack Meov He even told them the specific sound to make when starting up the car in a cold start. That is just 👌
XstonedmonkeyzX yeah I think BMW and McLaren should join again but now McLaren builds their own engines they don't need companies like BMW and Mercedes anymore 😒
Simply Incredible. Childhood dreams right here for us 80’s and 90’s kids 🙌
2:37 "just put it in 3rd and drive it like if it was automatic"
@Buddy Austin lol it is a torque monster and I would spend less time in 2nd gear because you’d have to be so careful and smooth
That glorious V12 sound! 😍😍😍
This rev matching looks just awesome
I like the fact that he still has to row thru those gears no fancy paddle shifters here and the sound of that v12 is amazing
Those heel and toe downshifts 👌👌
There will never be a more awesome car than this.
Never.
The noise is epic!
Could listen to that sound track all day- well driven too! 👍🏼 ATB Peter
This has been my dream car it’s so cool to see it in action
Still better then any new hypercar out at this moment
Personally for me it’s second to any koengsegg but your right with any other hyper car
The McLaren F1 is my 2nd favorite car, the first is Koenigsegg Regera though
Say whatever you want but to me the F1 is THE McLaren. I grew up with this car and i just love it, it's still the most powerful factory NA car out there if i am not mistaken and i like it way more than any modern supercar
@@TotallyNotASpy1 its actually not and hasn't been since the 2013 viper.
@@TotallyNotASpy1 It may not be the most powerful NA supercar today. But it is the fastest NA car in its day. Even up to this day, no NA car can hit as fast as the F1.
Great sound quality, great car, great camera position. A lesson for all the boy racers in the pub who don't know how to change gear.
My second favorite race car. The engine is perfection and the sound is brilliant. such a beautiful car.
Awesome!! Thanks for the ride.
Thank you, it reminds of memories..

Thunderbolt is such a fun track 👌🏾
That footwork tho, just like me riding my bicycle. Flawless.
Why did I enjoy that so much?
The foot work😰😰👌😂😂😂
Love the way he pushes the gas peddle while breaking. I always heard the rpms go up but didn’t know how. Very interesting
that rev-matching technique was a beauty to watch
As soon as they pulled out of the pits, I knew it was NJMP! Also...cant believe there was a McLaren there! Absolute dream car for me!
The noise! I cant get over it!
I just love how he bangs through the gears :D
Slk som espetacular e pilotagem sensacional
That's Thunderbolt at New Jeresy Motorsports Park!!! That's my HOME TRACK!!!! that's my beginnings!!
Oh my god that V12 is Heavenly 🔥🔥🔥
Boss at work
Great! I get to see the foot work. Foot work is very important.
awesome to see the pedal action. i can see how left foot braking is an advantage
I too thought he was doing left foot braking. But as I replayed and watched where he tapped the brake with left foot twice on a straight while the accelerator was down. I think he did that to push the brake pads back before the next turn. I was watching another race driver in Goodwood Speed Week in a E-type and he too was doing exactly the same thing. I thought may be the same driver but not.
I like how smooth is foot play is
super super super no words for this super
The dance of feet on the pedals is very nice
This is easily the greatest sounding V12 ever made & the most purest of driving cars ever created.
That sound ❤❤❤
The shifter looks so direct and crispy
When I see these machines i have to think this was the golden era of racing. The machines of today are quiet, dull uninspiring.
The footworks thooo
Beautiful.
