    Honestly, I love Cheetu cause he's perfect for showing the major draw of nen as a power system; the thought put into each ability/hatsu by the characters themselves.
    Yeah, Kastro showed us what happens if you don't try to work in the nen categories best for you, but Cheetu shows what happens when you just come up with an ability just cause it sounds/looks cool and don't actually consider the strategies and potential drawbacks of said ability, which further highlights the ACTUALLY thought out abilities from all the other characters.

      I disagree about Kastro. His big mistake wasn't using the hatsu clone. Honestly, it was a good power. His mistake was thinking it was invincible. He gloated and played with his food while Hisoka figured him out and dismantled him.
      By all indications, Kastro was a match for Hisoka in terms of speed and power. But Hisoka far outclassed him in intelligence, fundamentals, and adaptability. I stand by that if Kastro had truly understood the threat that Hisoka presented and chose to blitz him while he still had his advantage, Kastro would have won--"wrong category" or not.

    • @md_played_by_md
      @md_played_by_md Před 4 lety +53

      @@tomc.5704 The story specifically has multiple different people explain why Kastro's decision to create a hatsu that did not complement his natural nen affinities was an outright bad idea. A really complicated hatsu like instantly creating, manipulating, and dispelling a perfect duplicate in the middle of a fight, for an enhancer, requires much more effort and focus than it would for an actual manipulator or conjurer. You see this in the fact that once he was overloaded in the fight, he could barely even defend himself because of all the mental strain preforming his doppelganger hatsu required.
      If Kastro *had* remained perfectly calm and collected, yeah, sure he could have kept up the fight more than he did, but there in lies the fallacy. If he HADN'T tried to force a strategy that actively worked against his natural affinity, he wouldn't have had that mental strain problem in the first place and would have been much more able to physically withstand Hisoka's tricks. Wing even says Kastro could have become one of the strongest nen users alive if he stuck with the Tiger Bite Fist, an enhancement hatsu, and kept working on it instead of using all his talent and effort into creating his doppelganger hatsu instead.
      Smart nen users in the series show that working within the bounds of their natural affinities is how you maximize your potential, not by just coming up with whatever ability sounds strong but actively works against your potential.
      TLDR Duplication hatsu is a good power in concept, but not for a fuckin enhancer as it completely wastes one's potential for a really sub-optimal payoff. HxH has even shown how much more effective a duplication hatsu can be in the hands of an actual manipulator lol

    I always thought of Cheetu as just a kid, perhaps inheriting the mind of a very young immature boy with not enough ant instincts to yield wisdom despite his large potential of aura. I felt bad for him, kinda... while laughing at his expense ofcourse, i felt bad for him. The way Morel didnt see him as enough of a threat to merit murdering him in the many openings he had, I felt supported my head canon in that he too saw him as a child and took pity on him (as you eluded to almost kind of).

    I love how every new big battle shonen that comes around builds on the combat mechanics of the previous ones.
    Fist of the North Star - pure rule of cool techniques with no power scaling
    DBZ - Ki as an universal power system and the introduction of power scaling and power-ups.
    Yu Yu Hakusho - placing more realistic and unique limitations on the power system, but the rules still felt vauge and techniques felt asspully
    Jojo - Stands allow a character to express their individuality through an unique power-set. No longer reliant on an universal energy like Ki, so the powers can more easily incorporate real-life things. Although, Stands were still more of a spiritual thing with their own rules
    Naruto - a kind of middle-ground, where the universal magic can create real objects. Not only that, but a single character can have multiple abilities, which can lead to some crazy complex battles. However, this actually leads to a heavy power imbalance, where some characters can have abilities that can just one-shot entire armies.
    One Piece - Devil Fruits are kinda like proto-Quirks. They're based on one thing and rely on a character's creativity to explore the possibilities of that thing. However, Haki, the classifications and the drowning requirement kind of ruin the uniqueness of each power, and is meant to help out non-DF users in the story to keep up.
    My Hero Academia - every person in the setting has a completely unique power. They're deliberately not balanced, but each one will reward the user for hard work and exploring it. No universal element, which means every new user and quirk can lead to wholly new situations, battle tactics and even story ark structures.
    The big limitations is that since everyone is born with it, certain characters can just be born with an OP quirk and not have to really develop or challenge themselves too hard. When's the last time Todoroki really had to struggle with something?
    And, finally, Hunter X Hunter: for me, the ultimate battle system.
    The characters have multiple axies on which they can develop: the universal, ki-like battle system has more depth and rules than any other, so it can exist alongside the more unique specialist powers.
    And these powers are never granted or given from birth, like Stands or Quirks. To get one, the user has to not only work hard, but WORK TOWARDS A GOAL. They need to consider their existing strengths and weaknesses, as well as what they want to use the power for. And, in a way, a power's usefulness is proportional to how hard the characters think about and desire a thing. Kurapika's chains are OP, because he is laser focused on the Spider. Meanwhile, Leorio's teleport punch is cool, but not that useful in a real combat situation.
    I'm not saying one of them is better than the other, because they're all tailor-made for the stories their authors wanted to tell.

      @@contentfilter6277 Well, the main difference is that in HxH most of the characters all have basic nen skills and only one unique skill of their own. In Naruto, it seems more that everyone has a multitude of semi-unique skills that they combine in various ways. Like, Rock Lee's thing isn't just Taijutsu, it's also his equipment, the weights, unlocking gates and probably more. Naruto doesn't just have the rasengan, he also has shadow clones, the ninetails, and probably other crap.
      It's not a clean comparison, cuz HxH chars do sometimes have more than one unique skill, but it seems more common in Naruto

    The funny thing to me is that Cheetu's crossbow could probably be extremely dangerous and useful were he smarter. His muscle speed being faster than his arrows implies he could fire it insanely fast, essentially giving him a light and small machine gun, and his insane speed could allow him to form walls of projectiles from hundreds of directions.
    He could force his opponents into making impulse and automatic reactions to the weapon's attacks that lead them into his path, he could fake them out by using arrows to signify where he is and move somewhere else nigh immediately while his enemy is distracted by the fake warning, he could abuse the weapon and then catch his enemy off guard by attacking up close with its claw, he could use his speed to stay on an enemy's ass - preventing them from escaping - and drill into them with too many shots and angles to block, etcetera, etcetera.
    He's just too much of a dumbass to even think of any of this, coming up with a crossbow because he thought 'I don't want Morel to come closer to me and catch me, so I'll make a weapon that works from far away'. He accidentally created a weapon that synergized pretty interestingly with his speed... he was just too dumb to use that synergy in any way.

    2:42 "He the intends to find the quickest possible shortcut"for me this literaly explains cheetu. Maybe he got this from his cheetah genes and is reflected in his fighting style since his attacks are fast enoungh to land 10 (or more) punches in a second but they aren't that strong compared to the others.

      Make the Rules so the Opponent has to Catch you at all Cost;
      and then bind Manipulation into the Ability so that the User fals under youre Mindcontrol if he loses the Tag-Game.
      That way, youre Army grows.

    His stupidity killed him. Killua's Grandfather Zeno tells him how self centered he is. "WOAH CHECK OUT MY TECHNIQUE, Dont be too shocked when you see it" And then Zeno gives him advice. Cheetu was stupid enough to not consider that you might have more than 1 opponent (Which is Silva). Just remember Cheetu, you cant keep your eye on 1 million enemies.

      I don’t think Hisoka’s personality test is universal among everyone of their type, and is more of a general observation.
      Cheetu isn’t the only odd one either. Melody/Senritsu isn’t impulsive or impatient at all despite being an Emitter. And I wouldn’t call Pitou or Neon independent despite both being Specialists.

    to be honest, Cheetu crossbow ability is the perfect ability for him, especially since its slower than him.

    not to mention the speed the arrow can get through his momentum

  • @Blasco_Snap
    @Blasco_Snap Před 6 měsíci

    Cheetu is an example of the gifted child in school who grew up lazy. His baseline abilities are very good. Almost overpowered. He just never took the time to refine them properly.
    He's a conjurer, which is probably the hardest nen type to develop, because you really have to think about what you want to conjure. Instead he picked an 8 hour game of tag because it seemed fun and a crossbow because he impulsively wanted a ranged attack.

  • @DemoncFerret

    to be fair that new ability could be useful in a fight specifically because it's slower than him. He can shoot at someone and then run around behind them and attack from the rear at the same time the bolt hits.

They definitely developed it a lot better than Cheetou and many of the ants. (bar maybe the royal guard/mereum). But then they had wayyyy more time and several teachers outright telling them how to use it, exercise it etc.

    when i see the "fight" between Morel and Cheetu, i was kind of confuse with the room thing, then understand is a tag game... just that: im faster than anyone so tag game
    Cheetu make an incredibly stalling ability but rudimentary at his best, i kind of guess he just make it like: time limit, rule of not getting caught, if i get touch ends
    The narrow mind of the character is very very writing in the ability, if he just make under what circumstances the game have to go like: Simon says ping pong, if someone dont say Simon gets slower and he gets faster
    Now the second ability i almost 100% sure he just make it in the mind of: GET AWAY FROM ME!
    It got not actual use or some convoluted action, just a Nen Crossbow and done like Nen guns, but its just my speculation
