    Excellent summary of clinical trial results. I was surprised that on average patient's blood pressure dropped, since phentermines label has a side effect warning of raising blood pressure.
    In the US, Qsmia costs 150 to $300 a month without insurance. But if you buy its two components, Phentermine and topiramate in their generic form, the clost is closer to $15 to $20 a month.
    I had terrific results from phenfen in the 1990s, but my physician prescribed it responsibly, unlike many telemedicine outfits that were prescribing across state lines with absolutely no regard to patients medical histories. Although my blood pressure was low to normal, my doctor had me measure mine every single day for the first two weeks, and then weekly for the duration of my use of the drugs. I had no problems with them and was very disappointed when they became unavailable.
    I will discuss this combination with my MD, but it may be counterindicated because now that I'm in my 70s, My blood pressure tends to run high without meds

    Also when the pharmacist gave me the prescription she said the doctor should of put me on this to begin with because it was in her opinion just as good as wegovy also. I thought that was very interesting!

    I was on Saxenda for about 6 weeks when I developed very severe gallbladder disease. Also two other sudden issues requiring surgery as well. I lost 30 lb over 4 months but have to stop because of those issues. Three surgeries in four months :-( They don't know if there was a direct cause from the medication or because of the weight loss. So, not going to be on that for now. Started Qysmia a few days ago at the lower dose. You have to take 3.75 for 2 weeks then it ups to 7.5 combination. My insurance did cover it and it had to be pre-approved. I think it's going to run about $30 every 21 days. You have to be seen by your doctor within 30 days of starting it and on a regimented schedule while you're taking it. In order to be approved for this, you have to be a certain BMI and have at least one comorbidity such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc. My doctor also requires food tracking. The average retail cost of this medication without coverage runs between $200 and $300 a month. I live in the US. Edited to add:. I've been off medication since January, I gained back about 4 lb. I need to lose about 40 more to get to goal weight. I am in my mid 60s. Been post menopausal for about 15 years.

    Hi Dr Dan my doctor put me on this medication but put me on the separate medication because my Insurance did not cover the brand name but will pay for the separate drugs lol which is phentermine at 15 MG and then the topiramate at 50mg twice a day. I am doing really good with this and to be honest it's just as good if not better then wegovy. I have lost 20 pounds all together between both drugs now. For the phentermine and topiramate at the pharmacy is only 17.75 for a month you can't complain about that.

    Why do all
    Doctors add an a in phentermine? Everyone pronounces it phen-Tear-a-mean instead of oven-tur-mean. Is this actually how it’s pronounced?

    I think I heard you say in one of your videos that the patent on Saxenda will end in august. Does that mean there will be a generic version and lower the price is/around august? Thanks!

    • @theofficialdrdan
      @theofficialdrdan  Před 2 lety

      It likely will be a few more years before patent from Saxenda comes off. In saying that when it does there will likely be a generic or biosimilar that becomes available at that time.

    Wow that is shockingly high drop out rate.
    Interesting it was so high in the placebo group.
    I imagine the drop out rate is going to cause some apprehension with prescribers, depending on further data.

      Well one would hope. However, drug reps won't really be sharing it and unless clinicians read the study themselves they won't really take note of it unfortunately.

      with my insurance it was $207, but Qsymia offers a health savings card and it cost me $128.00 (30 days supply)
      just picked it up yesterday! also if you can get your Doctor to send it to Qsymia apparently they will mail it to you for $98. (Amanda) This will be my first time trying this prescription!
