  • In this list we'll go over cards that were banned at one point in time, and order them in which where the absolute weakest of all of the cards that have ever been Banned. Granted, most cards are banned because they're good in some way, so none of these cards are bad, just the weakest of the very small pool of cards that had been banned at some point in the game's history.

    Victory dragon had a judge ruling stating, " if VD is one board and the game state showed a match win can happen, then the forfeit will still result in a match win." This was to attempt to solve the forfeit issue which only resulted in players forfeiting before the point that gamestate could happen. I think the issue is the archetype problem. One archetype gets a special summoning mechanic, then another one gets a special summoning mechanic, then a bunch of other archetypes need a special summoning mechanic to be viable. Suddenly, you have 20 cards that can special summon themselves, and a few of them are splashable in any deck, meaning that suddenly every deck could theoretically special summon a bunch of monsters using those cards.
      You can apply that to negates as well and pretty much any other mechanic. It's only a matter of time until every archetype gets a draw power engine as well.

    • @corvo2696

      I will take that every duel is potential OTK speed over Eldlitch and ritual Drytron's current strat which is just, "you aren't going to play the game" if they get turn 1. Had a game against an eldlitch where they set Imperial Order, Skill Drain, and Rival warlords.

      @dstreetz91 Před 2 lety +2

      @@corvo2696 Naturally if the format slowed down other cards would have to be looked at for potential bans/limits. Sadly Konami really messed the game up by allowing people to have 20 card starting hands via extra deck and slapping special summons onto so many things to facilitate link summons and such. Only ways they could slow down all the special summon nonsense currently going on is to literally change the rules so that you can only perform some number of special summons per turn and make that number 3 or less or maybe even 2 or less, or banning a lot of cards that can be special summoned/special summon other cards upon death.

    Playing competitively at the time of Victory Dragon, the ruling was that a player could not technically concede during their opponent’s turn; although no one really applied it unless Victory Dragon was involved. The thing was a judging nightmare, though, and I feel like that was the true reason for its ban. Also, there was a Self-Destruct Button deck that saw a little play: it won by using Button to tie game after game, and then sided into 15 cards of burn right before time was called. So you’d have a match finish of something like 1-0-11 or so. Not super successful, but not something they wanted running around, either.

    I still use Lily along with cards that prevent special summons and cards that prevent grave effects. Actually a lot of these cards are still good in anti-meta decks that locks players into playing with old school rules. Of course I use upgraded versions of classic cards if they exist such as the newer mirror force cards. I usually equip United We Stand to cards like Jinzo, or get Dark Simorge out then flip anti spell fragrance (sometimes protecting him with safe zone). I use judgement and strike, as well as compulsory, I also use card guard to protect things like Swords of Revealing Light, Safe Zone and united we stand. I mainly use Air Hummingbird as a life point security net, and if I get in trouble I use Switcharoo (which is the only viable replacement for snatch steal I've seen so far). It's a slow deck but it works, I'm upgrading it as I learn more about the newer cards. (Old school player coming back after a long time). I'm thinking about adding Evenly Matched to the deck, or a similar hand trap that can prevent Flood/OTKs.

    Interestingly the reason you cite for Self Destruct Button is somewhat similar to the card Shahrazad in Magic the Gathering has the distinction of being one of (in fact I'm certain THE ONLY) card banned in the Vintage format that was never part of a joke set or other card printed to be non legal from the get go. Vintage itself is distinct in being the one format to restrict rather than ban cards that are banned in other formats.
    The card's effect basically has players take their remaining decks, leave the current game as is otherwise, and play a subgame at the end of which the players who don't win lose half their life. The card is banned purely for how it draws out games especially if during the subgame another Shahrazad gets played creating subgames within subgames.

    United is a interesting card. My buddy still to this day uses it in his naturia deck cause with naturia mosquito your opponent takes the battle damage you would take damage involving a naturia monster. So he would do a mosquito then equip his opponent strongest monster then smack into it with cliff 3 times then a really low atk naturia and otk since with all his monster are powering his opponent.

    Self Destruct Button is probably one of the stronger cards as a draw gets you out of a lost game and you can retry your otk in certain decks that give you the lp differential such as reversal quiz. Also it finishes off three game matches the easy way if you pull the otk off in game 1.

  • @pretends2know
    @pretends2know Před 2 lety

    16:24 As a former Final Countdown player, I don't know anyone that played Self-Destruct Button. It's a lot less cumbersome to just keep stalling than to draw what would most likely be a dead card.
    However, Self-Destruct Button was its own archetype, where the goal was to end games in draws for the entire match, then side in burn to win in turns on a technicality. What made that strategy consistent was an old rule that if a game ended in a draw, the starting player got to keep going first in the next game.

    2:40 It doesn't destroy randomly, it destroys the monster with highest DEF.

    • @xCorvus7x
      @xCorvus7x Před 2 lety +1

      There's less cohesion to DEF than to ATK values, so unless your opponent has only one big monster on the field, it's somewhat random what you actually hit.
      For instance, Beast-King Barbaros is defended from this by a Giant Rat; Sirocco the Dawn is protected by Shura.
      The statement in the video can also be interpreted as „destroying without rhyme or reason“.

    When I used to judge years ago from the gravekeeper format to elemental dragons
    Every regional etc, there were at least several players that used self destruct button
    And from what I would learn from a couple of them (some were legit players that weren't there for the following reason) but those couple were purposely there to cause draws to ruin records to drag people's scores down in matching.
    And players would ask me to disqualify that sdb player because of this reason. Some who legit used it to force a draw on an obvious loss would get accused too. I would have to tell em, "Its a legal strategy, I can't disqualify the person because of that."
