Thank you for this of course!

I think this is Friday 10 September 1982 (well early hours of Saturday). TVS showed the film on that date.

I notice they are using the “South” variant of the clock at closedown - normally this was seen only on the south-area transmitters before split local news, while the “South East” variant was shown on the SE transmitters. Does this imply there was a SE opt at closedown?

In the first year, I think they had totally separate continuity between South and South East services, until they realised it was an unnecessary financial drain.

if it's plugged in and turned off it will catch fire which is recommended to pull the plug out

Did Southern (before the rebrand to TVS) had aired that pre-sign-off public affairs chat show "Company"?

It wasn’t a rebrand, it was a change of company.
No, Southern had an epilogue. You’d know that if you watched the Southern closedown I uploaded a couple of months ago!

Can you just explain this "Loss of Sync" - what does that mean?

It means the loss of the synchronising pulses in analogue TV signals that VCRs and CRT TV sets relied upon to record, play back and display a stable picture.
Some VCRs seemed to generate their own sync pulses when recording in the absence of the sync pulses received by the analogue TV signal. My capture software has no issues with those, but it does have issues with keeping sound and picture synchronised with recordings made on VCRs where the VCR couldn’t generate its own sync pulses where none were being received.

For most transmitters to shut down, they needed the video signal fed to them to be switched off. This removed the sync pulses (which are embedded in the video signal). After three or four minutes of no sync pulses being received (sometimes shorter, sometimes longer), the transmitter automatically shuts down. That’s what they’d normally do, but it seems on this night they decided to pre-program a shutdown time in the transmitter’s control systems (which could also be done!). Even though we’re in the early 80s, we’re well into the era of remotely-controlled, semi-automatic transmitters!
A fairly good example of loss of sync can be seen from 18:30 in this clip:
