As a Hispanic woman from South Central LA, Daisy faced numerous challenges growing up, including poverty and exposure to gang violence. However, she was determined to make a better life for herself and her family, which led her to join the Marine Corps.
Throughout her 15-year career in the Marines, Daisy has served in Okinawa, Japan, and multiple deployments to combat zones in the Middle East. Despite being the only woman and Hispanic female in her unit, Daisy earned her fellow Marines' respect by proving herself through her dedication and bravery.

She’s a badass . I hit 3 IEDs in Iraq and then in 2014 got hit with a RPG at Bagram that ended my working career . 9 years in the ME ( military and contracting) and ptsd / TBI . Everyday is a challenge & can tell you the only reason I’m even still here is my wife & dog . I’m so happy these episodes are getting out there so people know their not alone .

I follow Daisy Romero on social media because to me she is the picture of resilience. I loved seeing her journey to Warrant Officer a few years ago. I believe we were in the same unit in Okinawa and we share mutual friends. I had to watch the full episode after seeing a short clip. Daisy, you are the type of leader we don't deserve but desperately need. Thank you for your contribution.

I learned more ftom this woman, than all of the other interviews together. I never joined, but I was a cop. And back then, PTSD was just a Viet Nam combat vet thing. I thiught I had nothing to complain about. In my fifties, I find out what childhood trauma was. I still am existing in a box, within a cage. Maybe by seventy, I'll understand half of me.
But I do care about you all.

As a fellow Mexican American. It's incredible to see people, more importantly a women, like miss Romero share their stories. I was denied the opportunity to serve my country because of my bad decisions as a teen. But now as a father of a beautiful baby girl, I will show this to her when she grows old enough to understand it all. To understand that no matter the circumstances life puts you in. You can achieve great things in life. Whether it be by following in miss Romeros footsteps into the military. Or anything else in civilian life she may choose to do. I basically stumbled upon this site. As a former Marine grunt I honestly was a loud voice against putting female Marines in combat. This young Marine humbled me and put me in my place.
I have struggled like her with issues. I closed my mouth and opened my ears. She has a lot to say and learn from. Quite a leader and mentor. She has re- motivated me to live life as my true self.

No one talks about how bad the FETs are for unit cohesion. The FETs are not self-sustaining, the other Marines have to come back from patrol and dig their latrines for them, do everything else for them, and it kills the dynamic of that unit that must support them.

Daisy reminds me of my 2nd wife, a mustang officer, army nurse, combat veteran, she was a bad ass, small but mighty, retired as a Major. Im so proud of her til this day.

This is why America Loves her Marines. I Grew up listening to WWII, and Korean Vets. When the conversation got down in the chit it was normal to hear the Army guy's say thing like "but it wasn't as fucked-up as the Marines had it. I'm not going to say one branch is better than the other, but Marines thrive on being Marines. It's screwed up how fucked up things can be. I am extremely proud of you. You are a hell of a woman, one hell of a Marine.

I served with Daisy, we were both station on Camp Courtney with 3rdMARDIV (she was in the G4 I was in the G2) I am happy who that young CPL became. I didn't know she had deployed until I saw her at 29 Palms for pre deployment training ( I was also on the same deployment just with a different unit, 2BN/3MAR, FOB Geronimo, Nov2010-Jun2011). I didn't see her again (Professionally, still followed each other on social media). Until I saw a post on Instagram of this Story, I welled up with Pride knowing I was in the presence at some point in my career with a great one. We both had different experiences on our tours, but the Demons are the same.....Semper Fidelis Daisy Romero.

The worst one wasn't our interpreter getting blown up in our vehicle with the entire front of his body gone.....
The worst one was the guy in front of me getting blown up after stepping on a pressure plate. The entire first layer of my skin on my face was burned off. "It was just another TBI."
What a tough, smart, beautiful war hero. Don't tell me women shouldn't serve in combat.

FET teams are awesome! As a advisor in Combat Advisor in Afghanistan i worked with a few. I was in RC north and trained the AUP and at thet time I entragated Afghan women into training with the men and needed a FET to help. And talk about some great womem. Having multiple head injuries sucks that is one of the reasons why I was medically retired. And as a older person who joined back up in 05 at 45 and as a former Marine and now in my 60s and having cluster headaches still from them once in awhile sucks but I've learned to live with them. I took was diagnosed with cluster headaches. In 1997 a neurologist in Masawa AB Japan finally called it that. I had a 17yr history of severe pain. He turned me on to breathing 100% oxygen. 7 to 8 liters. Works. No more pain drugs that make you loopy. Wish you well in your future endeavors. Retired AF E7 in "97". Now I'm labeled a hostel Patient at the VA. They didn't want to fund the home oxygen. Drugs they gave me that dayincreased the headaches.
@goatram1 I moved to the mtns and live at 5k feet, and as soon as I moved up here in 2 months, they pretty have gone away. I get one every once in a while, but not like before.
They gave me sumatripton in sa self infected pen deal, and they actually worked! But I refused to take the COVID SHOT and couldn't use the VA for anything. But I was on Community Care thanks to Trump, so I never have to use the VA because they really suck. I moved outside of 50 miles of a VA so I don't have to use them.
All my love and admiration is sent to you my beautiful little sister. Please, do me a favor and love yourself more every day. You are so worth that effort.

It's all propaganda with the tougher than the rest. Do you think a Marine truck driver is tougher than a Navy SEAL or a Army paratrooper? You want a challenge become a paratrooper. When that door opens up and you hear the scream of the engines and the wind, you will find out what you're made off when you step into blackness.
@@Halcyon1861 ....She is tougher then you are. As a Marine she went through a harder boot camp then the Army Paratrooper or Navy Seal did. Also, as a female she couldn't even sign up for that. When I was in boot camp we had a prior service Army guy that had been Ranger qualified and had jump wings that quit after 3 week at Parris Island. How about you just thank her for her service to this Nation and shut your pie hole about how bad ass you think yourself is.

@@Halcyon1861 HAHAHAHAHA I was in the Marines, got out and went in the 82nd. Shut the hell up. It isn't difficult to jump. Airborne School is one of the easiest military schools I've been to. Jumping is only a way to get to work, anyway.

I think she was in Sangin when my buddies were there. They left 2/5 to extend and deploy with 3/5. Two of them lost their legs. She’s kinda a badass Sangin was no joke

@@MsRotorwingsthey extended their contracts to deploy in a combat zone. It’s war people have to go and some have to die and get wounded. I’d rather have the guys who extended contracts and want to be there next to me trading lead with the enemy than the guy who doesn’t want to be there at all

Way to go Ms Romero. Sorry don't know your rank now. I agree with you about compassion to others and leadership by example. The surviving the fight is the fight in and undo itself. It's nothing to be ashamed. It's you giving the testimony to the future marines. Let alone teaching how others gave to you with their ultimate sacrifice. Now you are giving to the young Marines that you can deplete the enemy by being alive. Your living proof makes the marine corp stronger in the long run. Not to mention few people are triple purple heart earners. let alone someone who stays in the service. What I like about you is, it tells the story to our adversaries. You can blow me up, but I'm still here. You learned about appropriateness after the battle and taught it to others. That means we don't ever give up in our Marines. Thank you for everything you've done I believe it has a direct cause and effect on saving other marines lives down the road.
