  • One of the worst thunderstorms in recent times reaped havoc with Northeast Pennsylvania and the railroads that serve it.
    Washouts, floods, mudslides, downed power lines and trees and disrupted communications are just some of the drama that plagued Norfolk Southern today.
    Add a derailment at Taylor Yard to the mix and you have one of the most interesting and frustrating days of railfanning on record....

    4:00 almost every boxcar on that train was smothered in graffiti. Pretty unbelievable. Go back in time on CZcams and look at train footage from the 80's or 90's, graffiti was a rare sight!

    where I live in the Chicagoland area u.p. and BNSF on the same train is sort of uncommon but not rare

      I'm surprised.. I always thought of Chicago as a railroad melting pot where you could find anything pretty much anywhere at pretty much anytime.. Maybe not.

      Trains21 it really is just a big old melting pot and you can find basically anything there, but I live in the suburbs along a union Pacific line in which you rarely see BNSF but there are other places in Chicago in which you can see that quite often such as the yards. and got ALOT of ideal railfanning spots throughout.

    how does one railroad company use another ones engine(s) if they are not partners in the industry?

    • @Trains21
      @Trains21  Před 7 lety

      There are many scenarios that can cause one railroad's locomotives to show up on another ones.. The most common reasons are the pooling of power between roads and/or horsepower hours owed to a railroad from another.

    Did you call NS to tell them that the tracks were flooded? Probably not a bad idea, trains can't stop on a dime.

    • @Trains21
      @Trains21  Před 6 lety +1

      No.. They do regular and bad weather patrols..
