- **EDIT at approximately 4:16, I said King Alfred, when I meant to say King Aethelred!**
Welcome to the second video of our “WHO” series. In this video, we look at Netflix’s “The Last Kingdom”, and examine the one of the most notorious Danes, Cnut. We go back to 11th century England to learn about the creation of the North Sea Empire.

I'm here because vinland saga 😭
Me to brother
Spoilers to Vinland Saga:
Really amazing to see the bashful prince cnut in vinland saga, who was revered as a rutheless warrior king in history transform, into that later in the story.
Me too. Looking it up for my son who turned me onto Vinland Saga lol
here because of last kingdom
@@awashnutbrixfr
Everyone knows he's a man that had more character development in one episode than all Naruto character did in 700 episodes.
So True lol
the cap on this man
@@sajidteg4682 bruh I wasn't serious with the comment, there's no way that a single character can have more development than multiple characters and in one episode. It was a joke.
great stuff dude long live the north sea empire.
I think cnut is last kingdom was not actually this cnut, instead his son or grandson would be, there's a reason they left cnut kid alive in TLK.
Was about to say this
Exactly. Cnut the Great died 1035, while Alfred the Great (father of Edward, who fought Cnut in the series) died in 899.
Totally different time!
I’m glad I am not the only one to notice this. I was losing it at the thumbnail
Top quality videos for a small channel, can see you blowing up relatively soon! Would love to see one about Haesten :)
Thank you! Coming right up ;)
Where’s it at?!
I don’t think Cnut in TLK is supposed to be Cnut the great given that it’s a full 100 years prior to his life
Could say the same for the protagonist. My heart stopped when canut debuted because I knew historically he killed uthbert
@@Mikefantasia22 the protagonist is entirely fictional.
The protagonist is fictional but there were uthreds of bebunburn but I don't think any of them were associated with Alfred or wessex.
@@currentcommentor8745 yea they too were active in THR late 900s and early 1000s, like Cnut THR great, looooooong after Alfreds death.
Yeah TLK does not condense time like that as Vikings did, the author actually tried to keep historically chronicled events accurate while fictionalizing the filler. Most of the Danes are fictional characters as Alfred pretty much chose to only chronicle the christian converts. Ubbe and Guthrum were real, and just like history it's sort of unclear whether Ubbe is actually the son of Ragnar Lothbrok
Interesting video, would be also interesting to talk about how Canute is represented in the manga/anime Vinland Saga
he's also a femboy anime character too 👍👍👍
What! Where?
what? no bruh.
Wait till you see manga cnut 🤯
@@mohammedhussain5254 Chadnute the Great
King Canute is also in the new Vikings spinoff "Viking Valhalla" where his marriage to Emma of Normandy take center stage in the plot. His beard is alsoˈbedər!
I liked this character. I like that Uthred told him his sons are alive just before he died
all new info for me.very much enjoyed.
Vinland saga
It's so weird to think about that our generation that we live in *RIGHT* now, will one day be History in the future.. :O
Not really we will be the least read part's of the history books
No one will remember your name
@@user-qi6tp1te1y Bro, im talking about our technology, that will be old school in 50 years.
@@user-qi6tp1te1y And no, im not popular by all means. Oh and, did you have a bad day sir?
@@fallen6060 then you should have been more specific
I want to know more about Young Ragnar. And the brothers Siegfried and Eric.
Vinland Saga
Great video man but I think at 4:16, you meant to say King Aethelred.
Whoops! Right you are! Thank you for that.
Please do "just how unready was Aethelred The Unready". In any case your channel is as epic as the Saxon Chronicles themselves stride on brother!
He was in vikings too
Where
In the show Utred is a fictional character but the real man was supposedly going to be written as his son.
C it is so fascinating!
I'm subscribing just for 0:49 xD
They did him soooo dirty in the show. In the books he’s a top 5 villain easily.
His hair in the manga/anime "Vinland Saga" isnt even curly lmao
Canute is Princess lol 😂
@@kravlone7612 you're kidding right?
Cnute in the manga and anime looks girlish because of Story and Character reasons.
@@lohengramm6969 just in the prologue then he gets badass
In the manga now he looks pretty spooky
His mot was a sister of Polish king Boleslaw chrobry and her father was Polish king Mieszko 1. Story say Polish king sent some soldiers to help with fighting against English.
Mainly cavalry. One thing the Scandinavians wern't particulary good at.
His Mum -Świętosława is the one that they still deny (to this day )of actually being his Mum... sad...
@@mediacybart No one denies her. It's just we don't know her real name.
I read it was all of Wessex that didn't submit to Cnut, not just London.
here coz of vinland saga thorfin anime
Cnut sounds like Eivor from ac valhalla
I love how Poland conquered England by sending 1 woman.
Regular Polish troops took part in the invasion
Swedish sources confirm, Sigrid was Polish. It appears Mieszko the First could have been Viking.
slavic power :D
What's good cousin.
Wait! Askeladd wasn't real?!
He was but just had nothing to do with Cnut
What about ROLO of Normandy .................. enjoy
"Exceptionally tall" which would be about 6' today, and was no doubt exaggerated in the sagas as was typical. So maybe 5 '10 at best lol.
This is the guy that kills the real uthrid? Wow didn’t see that coming
But... isn't the same guy
Vikings
Ambushing a submitting foe is kinda cruel but so were the times
I just came here cuz I'm related to him💀no idea about this show y'all talking about
I'm here because I'm related
Now I see why we spell Cnut with a K. Knut.
Dyslexia!
Valhalla
I'm here for Valhalla and last kingdom haha
Here as Cnut is my ancestor. I do not have a hooked nose 😂
Really?
That’s interesting you have a cool ancestor
I am a son of Canute
No
You wouldn't believe how I ended up here
Lets hear it!
"Last kingdom" as "vikings" became lame show wich just vilifies people that wass great.
Well the Vikings show made Saxons as cowards and retards. So I think it's fair that TLK did that to the Vikings.
The last kingdom was great for 3 seasons (especially 2nd season) but I started watching a few episodes of season 4 and I couldn't continue, the writing was crap and some of the new actors were painful to watch. Unfortunately, the show got new screenwriters for season 4 who are simply not good enough. I'm reading the books atm and they are decent.
The show went downhill after the death of Alfred, much like GOT after the death of Tywin.
Here before 60 subscribers. Let the haters hate, I'm not one Of them! Also, I really Want to be friends xd
Thank you! We can most definitely be friends. Especially if you are into pie.
The highlight of the books is Uhtred’s fight with Cnut and they BUTCHERED it in the TV show!
