  • Disney Theatrical President and Producer Thomas Schumacher takes us behind the curtain and gives us an up close and personal view of how things work backstage. We'll meet the make up people from The Lion King, share secrets from a premiere Broadway wig designer, watch just how those quick changes happen in Mary Poppins, meet the man behind the puppets in The Lion King and hear one member of The Lion King orchestra as he demonstrates those signature sounds.
The American Theatre Wing's panel discussion series, Working in the Theatre (formerly The American Theatre Wing Seminars), brings together performers, directors, playwrights, designers, choreographers and behind-the-scenes personnel from the Broadway theatre.
CUNY TV currently airs five recent seminars every week, and the series can also be seen on Cablevision's Metro Guide and cable systems in California.
    (Taped: 9/23/11)

He acts like he knows more than the makeup artist in the way he interrupts her and sort of answers his own questions

I enjoyed how it showed different occupations behind the scenes!

Having watched other ATW Working in the Theater episodes, this has the distinct smell of Disney management. One smooth talking exec with lots of HR and PR training controlling the narrative for all the "invisibles".

I have a general idea of how a show works, in Tighter room backstage. If a set piece gets stuck on stage, for example a set piece could jump a track, would the show continue?

Ben Collins they would most likely bring the curtain down and stop the show to fix the set piece, then continue. I've been in the audience when this has happened during a broadway show.

The actress at 12:10 is a bit old to play Ariel, not sure who the other characters are, I would love to be in a Disney musical.

Well she played the part a few years before this. The clip is Sierra Boggess the original. I think Michelle looks right. Especially with the stage makeup and distance from the audience point of view.

A lot of the other wigs were from other Broadway shows. Including Side Show (the twins)

The blonde and brunette wigs the actress puts on are Roxie and Velma from Chicago

I am SO annoyed with this man. Please stop interrupting this woman and let her speak. So rude! He is terribly disrespectful and is impatient as a child would be.
