Perfect, now I can justify buying another case of beer
Nice tip. I found a funnel to provide a cleaner lip.
Thanks for the vid
Great stuff 👍👌
That would work well for sand. I have a slightly different style for harder ground. Next time I make one, I will video it.
Calaveras 32Spcl for freshwater, and not at the beach i use heavy wire rod holders or my basket, which is up coming.
Cool tips !! Keep the vids coming !!
Luke Spangler thanks, sorry we have been behind. we will get more videos asap.
At 2:07...push down really hard on ROUND bottle till it becomes SQUARE! Should just use a SQUARE bottle to start with. Nice video
square as in 90 degrees lol
Just cut a nudge in it where the reel's seat can rest in. Put some rubber or alike on the edges of the nudge - to make it snug and done. Less work and very effective. No scarring up your reels either.
TheOpelkoenjas You could, but cost, time, and you would have to orient tge spike in the correct direction. also what happens when the fish runs cross and causes rotational force.
@Jelsma Outdoors
Good point.
TheOpelkoenjas I think were gunna do another vid, showing start to finish only cause people ask me how i cut the bottoms.
@Jelsma Outdoors
I swear, some people would even ask how a screwdriver works. LOL
TheOpelkoenjas abd theres no problem to let them know, if you have anymore questions send em in. FFF our live show on friday we answer questions live on YT.
Listing the size of PVC would be helpful. Eyeballing it I'd say its 2", 3" tops - hard to say due to it being relative to your hands, so judging by the size of the torch tip to the OD/ID of the pipe.
Thanks, we may have missed that in the description. It is 1 1\2 inch PVC sched 40
@@JelsmaOutdoors Np. Others who don't flange theirs opt for 2.5"
Did a little searching around. I'm using your torch and bottle method and then I'm going to 45 degree the ends and attach some rebar with hose clamps.
Thanks for the video!
@@thomaswolf9297 we have optimized the cut angle in a second video so unless you have a rock beach the solid PVC spike is best.
@@JelsmaOutdoors My shore spots alternate between sand and rock - I may make some of both. Here in the north Mississippi we have some serious fish, though. Just a few days ago I had something 100+lbs on, couldn't believe the pull, went around a fallen tree and wiggled off a circle hook somehow.
But yea, flatheads, mudcats, sturgeon, huge northerns, huge dogfish - we get nailed all the time. What I've been doing is staking my old metal holders in and wedging them with tree roots and bricks, then run for my pole when I hear the drag lol...
gr8 tip really is handy to use haha hate it wen the rod rests on sharp edges. makes me feel so uneasy
glad to help
Leave it unflared and use a rubber mallet to set it. Been using the same 4 spikes for 6 yrs. You can’t hit that flared end.
Well done. TY
vanessa kitty Thank you, share with your friends.
Shared.
Use propane and it’s not as hot won’t fry the tip
👍
Nice!
Thanks
have you ever tried using boiling water to soften the edge for shaping it?
yes, but it takes to long and is easier to apply direct heat with torch.
@@JelsmaOutdoors Probably causes the PVC to leech chemicals as well. I'd say use a torch and sand it down afterward for the best results.
So what is the difference between the 90 degree factory edge impinging on the rod seat and the 90 degree edge you created? Still 90 degrees.
Marlon Knighton if the reel is resting on the raw pvc edge creates an area on high tension. this can create stress cracks.
+Marlon Knighton the rolled edge supports the reels seat.
do you find a 5 foot piece of pvc to be perfect as a sand spike or do you recommend a short length?
5 foot is perfect for out coast and sand texture. Softer sand a shorter spike will give less advantage to the fish on pulling it form the sand.
I dont really think the edge matter lol. sand it smooth and be done.
Catch Bigger fish, i used to think so as well untill you crack a reel at the stem.
Jelsma Rod Co all my reels have an adjustable drag.
What size PVC pipe is that?
Panfish works with 1 1/2 and 2 inch, also works with hdpe
Thanks
What are the bloused pants and combet boots for? You think your in a war zone? Or do you just like playing war with the fishas the enemy.
? not really, but long story short. I got issued the boots once a year but bought my own to be cool so i have a bunch of boots. and i blouse my pants to keep bugs and other stuff out, ticks, chiggers etc.
Too much trouble and time wasted! just go buy one!
Johnnyb always an option. 20 bucks at cabelas last time i checked. 4 at lowes
grabs torch: "dont not put direct heat on pipe" then immediately puts direct heat on pipe setting it on fire and breaths in toxic fumes! smdh
Bad guy smoke, Dont breath it.
@@JelsmaOutdoors Definitely smart to do it outside.
The flared ends are unnecessary and useless. Waste of time and only weaken your spikes.
