  • A customer dropped off their EV Rider Transporter Auto Folding mobility scooter with a dead battery that wouldn't charge. Because the battery was dead and the scooter was in the folded position he couldn't remove and replace the battery because he had no way of opening the scooter. With a bit of an inspection and trial and error I managed to figure out how to unlock it so he can replace his battery.

You went about this the hard way. If it is just a dead battery attach jumpers to the main connector and apply an automotive jump pack and press the green button and it will unfold to get the battery out.

If only! These scooters run on a 24v Lithium Ion system so a 12v car jump pack wouldn't be enough to power up the scooter. There was no way to access the "main connector" while folded and you also run the risk of shorting out and damaging electrical components. I don't fancy buy the customer a new scooter 😁

No, we weren't dealers of EV Rider dealers at that time and most likely they would of said plug in the charger. Also, I like to figure stuff out myself for content and for keep my brain active. Thanks for watching.

I work on those you add power to the battery or you need to change that black receiver under cover. The one with reset button and antenna. If it goes bad won’t unfold or fold. Of battery is dead you need to jump voltage into scooter to unfold it

I’ve fixed several of them if battery is dead you need another battery box and put voltage into scooter to unfold. If black receiver box is bad it won’t unfold or fold. Change black receiver

I figured it out by plugging in a charger (which the customer didn't supply with the scooter) as you saw in the video 😁

Never heard of EV Rider but don't watch QVC either. Sometimes the easy route is always the last thing you try. Be lucky.

Hey Clive, so true my friend. Most of the time plugging in chargers doesn't do a thing but charge batteries. Oh well at least it will hopefully save someone else a ton of time trying to figure it out. Stay busy brother.

So what happens when that doesn't work? Fuse is ok, change is ok, no power whatsoever to the ignition or anywhere yet the battery is full?
Your tip doesn't work for me.

Great question, it's been while since I worked on this unit. if there is no damage to the charger and the power light on the charger is on we can rule out that. I have to ask but make sure you have the power switch next to the charge port on and then try it with it off to see if that works. The user manual does mention a circuit braker, that may have tripped killing all the power to the scooter or the battery have come unplugged.
Just in case you do not have the user manual here is the PDF
