    The 750SS might be a lesser machine than most Ducatis but is it a decent used buy if you fancy dipping your toe in the classic Ducati pond.

    Saw these bikes 5 times a week because on my way to school I passed a Ducati dealer. I miss these times.

    I had a later model 750SS and loved it. My ego got the better of me and I sold it to buy an Aprilia RSVR.
    I now have a 600SS in the garage and I love it.

    Iv a 1995 one tucked away in the back of the garage. Mint condition and charming little 750 to ride. Real world bhp figures are more like 56...

    What a lovely bike. I had a 750ss with white frame and wheels. If you look through my videos you will see it but you’ll have to go back around 8 years.

    My first real bike was a 600SS. I bought it new from the Ducati dealer here in Sydney and loved it. I rode the crap out of that thing. Great first bike.

      My first bike was a late production 750ss, got it for £2000 a couple of years ago, I'm looking for another bike now but I'll never sell my 750ss.

    Ha, Thanks for the review. Reminds me that I got one in the garage that is waiting to get fixed. The first failure (ignition system) happened 2 years ago after I bought it in 2009 with around 37000 km. Looking at my docs it's unbelievable that I rode it just for 6000km. What a shame... Still loving it but my children are of priority 😉

      Checked all my docs. Now I know why I was irritated. Bought it 2001 with around 18000km. So I rode it about 20000km. Besides of crashes and usual maintenance, the bike was absolutely reliable. Not a diva at all.

    I couldn't agree more, I have had a 600SS and 900SS plus a couple of the 750SS - the early ones coming with only a single front disc. All the mounts are already there if you want to add a second disc, which is well worth doing. The price of the 750 versions make the 900 seem over priced for very little gain. These bikes are not about outright power, they are about beautiful sweepers.

    • @rustynuts82
      @rustynuts82  Před rokem +4

      For me, bikes of this type are increasingly relevant on today’s roads. Out and out performance is hardly useable on UK roads. A smaller, lighter bike with decent acceleration is all thats needed for a bit of fun. The 750ss is ideal for most sunday blasts.

      @@CAPTAINSLOG666 there is no such thing as a cheap Ducati.They have always been expensive to run eventhe old 860gt was as fragile as the 900ss but ugly and not as fast and as expensive to fix despite being cheaper to buy.

    • @johnludmon7419
      @johnludmon7419 Před 10 měsíci +1

      @JasonSimonSmith the problem with the 860gt was the engine was as expensive to fix as it was the same as the ss versions, but it was very ugly for a ducati . You got all of the pain without the benefits and at one time they were cheap to buy because of this.

    I owned the equivalent from the Monster range and the same age. Loved it for a few years and no reliability problems. I found the suspension was too hard and had it upgraded by Maxton, which massively improved it to near magic carpet ride. The motor was gas flowed and I fitted a Dynojet kit and BOS exhaust cans which gave it a little more go. Bought the later 2003 800ss with fuel injection and revised styling and did not enjoy it as much. Happy days!

    Is with you saying that the 600 is the entry level and I’ve been driving 38 years I know it’s more powerful?

    • @rustynuts82
      @rustynuts82  Před 4 měsíci

      By modern standards the 600 is fairly sedate the 750 is reasonably quick. Both have old school carbs. For an entry level bike either would be suitable. Very light and manageable, although sporty riding position. For a Sunday ride they are fun. Very pretty and from an era when Duke was very individual.

    • @JasonSimonSmith

      [1994 900ss/sp / US model] .. not that it's a good average - but one time I rode behind a semi (it was at night, and I was afraid of deer at the time), at a maintained ~70mph, tucked in most of the time for ~2 hours on a freeway/interstate highway - and in any event, much of that exercise was to see how high I could get the mpg - and it amounted to ~55mpg which I considered rather respectable given the "raciness" of the bike.
      Estimate ~upper 30s to low 40s mpg with normal town/zooting about riding..
      Stock Mikunis**. Geared down from stock (something like 1 tooth less on front sprocket & +2 teeth on rear sprocket) - as sixth gear never made sense unless traveling over something crazy like 90 mph. Open/K&N filter/airbox. De-cored stock exhaust cans.
      ** Keep hearing over and over again how good the flatside Keihin carburetors are - as in not only is throttle response improved - but better mpg as well..
