    Notes from Richard Fortus:
    We shot this in the old Lemp Brewery. A buddy of mine has a fantastic rehearsal studio and recording studio called Brewhouse Music Studios. The interesting thing about it is that it’s one of the most haunted spots in the country. It’s a massive brewery that was built in the 1860’s. The owner of the studio has loads of amazing stories and experiences the ghosts so regularly that it doesn’t really even phase him any more. There are huge caverns under the brewery. The caverns even contain a Roman swimming pool and a full nightclub that they used during prohibition.
    I used 2 Supro amps for these videos. One is a 1x10 Comet and the other was a vintage ’63 Thunderbolt, but wasn’t called a Thunderbolt. It has tremolo and was a guitar amp (not bass). It’s one of my favorite Supro’s. I just split the signal and I’m running through both. Man, that little Comet is RIDICULOUS!!! I love that amp. Pure swampy mojo! At times, I also engaged a Supro Drive pedal.
    I love these guitars. They have so much vibe to them! Super comfortable to play and they have such an incredibly unique tone.
    These pickups also sound AMAZING for slide! Total Cooder tone. Super throaty when you roll the tone back. I love how responsive the pickups are. I’ve got a few old Valco made guitars that I use mainly for slide. I think that’s mainly due to the fact that the old ones sound and look fantastic but are nearly impossible to play! Thankfully, these new ones keep all the tone but are a pleasure to play!

      A huge part of that tone is playing two amps at once. don't expect that guitar to sound the same through one amp alone.

    The tone sounds good and the playing is great but the intonation seems off no doubt an inherent flaw of the bridge like the old Gibson wrap around bridges.

    Fantastic grungy tone, can anyone tell me exactly which model amplifier is being used?

    • @formattester6
      @formattester6 Před 7 lety +2

      the Supro on the left of the video (richard's right) is an older vintage and I'm thinking it has a 15". the one on the right in this video is a 1610 RT Comet with a 10".

    • @nxtbgthng1
      @nxtbgthng1 Před 7 lety +1

    • @formattester6
      @formattester6 Před 7 lety +1

      the Comet in on the right channel with an AEA R88. the older Supro is in the left channel with a R122 w Khan pre. there is a room mic (TLM 103) about 15-18 ft in front of him (out of any of the shots) and I'm pretty sure that has an equal dose of the room mic in both channels but much much lesser amount than the close mics.

    Richard slays here and makes it sound killer but listen close. When it breaks up (either guitar or amp) it's still muddy enough (ie: unclear, undefined) to me to keep me and my money elsewhere. To each their own of course. Just not for me for that reason...other Supro videos sound very similar or worse. Richard makes it shine of course, as much as it can.
