My dad would always listen to this song, Rest in Peace Dad.
Hi. My Sincere Condolences. Sorry About Your Loss.
He sounded like a wonderful dad!
This is a pure pop masterpiece.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Young musicians need to watch this stuff. Gold, Gold, Gold.
I think very old and decrepit musicians need to watch this stuff. Rust Rust Rust.
The very talented Nick Lowe backed by the even more talented Dave Edmunds on acoustic, legendary stuff.
They all were Very Equally Talented,,, !!! Also Terry Williams On Drums, Billy Bremner on Lead Guitar .
Agreed.
Dave Edmunds or is it not Keith Chegwin?
I wouldn't say more talented, unless you are talking about guitar playing.
Yes, it absolutely is, without a doubt..Big fans of these guys!!
Still have my 45 from 79❤❤❤❤
STILL HAVE MY MEMORIES AS A 13 YR OLD GROWING UP DURING THE SUPER 70'S. AND YES I HAVE MY 45 ALSO. CLASS OF ROCKIN 84 HERE. ROCK ON N!!!.
Simplicity & Brilliance combined to make a perfect pop song !!!
This is a terrific pop song, it's everything I want from a melody.
1979 the best year for music, thanks to Stiff Records.
Great year 1979
Stiff records forever., the little label that could
Had the Stiff T-shirt with If it ain’t Stiff it ain’t worth a fuck. So true.
Never realised at the time what a great song this is
Arguably the best pop-rock song in history
Actually I've always thought What's so Funny about Peace Love and Harmony was probably the best. And maybe Costello's version, not the Brinsley Schwartz original...
Memories of 1979, a wonderful girlfriend and driving ‘round in her dad’s blue 71 Cutlass 350, listening to this on the radio brought me here.....
An Absolutely Unbelievable Brilliant Belting Classic From Mr Nick Lowe.
Just An Amazing Artist, Who Has Given Us All So Many Classics.
Cheers For This Monumental Anthem.
❤❤❤.
I love Nick Lowe's voice here so much.
yeah you really feel his voice he could have done more
Awesome lip-syncing. Thank god I saw them live in concert, with the real sound.
@@canadianroot lip sicyn l thought top of the pops was always live in them old days in 79 till about 2006 when it came off air good song though
I have loved this song since it came out !!
Yep, me too. I remember in '79 listening to it on the radio over and over again and loving it.
Always loved this song from the first listen in 1979 ... a pop gem. Recently heard a Nick Lowe solo on acoustic ... sublime ... he makes it look so easy.
My daughter had a dream and her deceased father was singing this. He was musically inclined.
Wow she got a visit!
there is a lot of true-to-life wisdom in this song...it goes deep if you understand what is being said...those that love you will tell you the truth every time regardless of how much it might hurt...it is a very good sign
Time and time again we come back to our roots..🙂❤
Good times....I remember watching this video back in 1981 when MTV was just a few months old then. The music videos were definitely memorable.
Billy Bremner (electric guitar) still going strong on the continent. Saw him in Sweden late last year (2017).
Ran into Billy Bremner at local guitar shop in the early 1980s the guy just amazing what he can play on the guitar super talented …. It was a great day to be in that shop ..
I've been listening to Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds and Rockpile records since the 1970s. I never knew until recently that many of my favorite guitar parts on those albums were actually played by Billy Bremner. He has an amazing style.
This 70's classic is timeless, underrated & sounds even better today compared with most songs of recent times...or is it just me?
Today’s music blows - I think the 70s was the best
@@jackemerson1171 You got that right!
BECAUSE THEY SAY THE 80s ARE THE BEST😒
@@MONSTERKILLERMFLEXJR 80's was all about hair/showmanship/drummers playing upside down/gimmicks.. ect.. but on average there were far better pop rock/metal songs written in the 70's than the 80's..
@@MONSTERKILLERMFLEXJR 80's were better at presenting a show.. there were more gimmicks & technology.. but i wouldn't say the song writing was better.. it peaked from 1970 to 1979.. more classics & better songs were written than any other decade..
I'm an 'old pUnK' from '77' vintage! Grew up with all these tunes, love 'Rockpile' and especially Nick Lowe for producing ;' Damned Damned Damned' love Nick dx
Remember when good music was about.
Love this. I had the biggest crush on Nick . He is still a doll
This is such a great track, Nick puts this over so very well and the whole thing comes across as a really great rocker, well done guys. Its sooooo great!
A perfect pop song. I love it!
Man, the 70's were awesome!
Happy 65th birthday to Nick Lowe!
+Richard H really? wow.
Yes, indeed!
It's a great little simple drum beat behind this song.
Oh man; to be 17 again. Just for a day in late 79'!
What a great song!! This will always be out there for future gens!!!
I had a 45 of this song in the 70,s love this song
this bloke is my hero then now and always ........
Absolute class 👍 Scottish guitarist Billy Bremner🏴 short and sweet solo, but the harmonies were awesome too 😉
all of Nick’s songs were great, warm voice, amazing melodies
singing along to the radio, getting ready for school
🤣 my uncool secret - i was usually more inclined to new wave
I have very fond memories of seeing Nick Lowe at Slim's in San Francisco in the early 1990 (basically as soon as I was legal to get into the club). Happy/sad sigh. 😢
Oh the Fall of '79. In love with a truly wonderful human being!
Awesome SONG. Loved this when it was a hit and still do.
CZcams is the closest to be a time machine.
Flashbacks of my childhood brought me here
Great song!! They were really great live, too!
Holy Cow....Beta really WAS better than VHS! The clarity of this picture is great for a home recording of this time.
Moses Berkowitz Better picture & sound!:-)
2020 and still classic
Oh take me back😢

He produced Elvis Costello's Armed Forces album
Always LOVE this song--- Nick Lowe looks alot like my closest friend growing up in the 80's
Handmaid's tale brought me here.
great,great song,
Top man the best when it's your birthday have a lovely relaxing day 😀
Ran across this Katt once when I was younger....He was straight up and cool...
I'm not normalley into a lot of pop , But this great.
I miss the 70s
They are so in the groove enjoying performing this song which makes it twice as good. Every note sounded perfect from Singer and Musicians.
They are miming to the 7" being played. Listen to the original single recording. This is it!
Still brilliant though!

I MUST BE . LOSING MY MIND BECAUSE I COULD HAVE SWORN I HEARD THAT SONG IN 1975.
I haven't heard this in a very long time. I don't think it gets much airplay. Loved it when it came out.
Oh yes!
Another precious Jewel!!!
Bring it Home!!
Great song, I was n 8th grade awesome times!
still GREAT!!
Dave Edmunds playing guitar - great song.
reikikid wasn’t that Bremner with the solo?
Billy on lead...
Great guitar rift.
Coolest thing about him is at one time he was the son in law of June Carter and Johnny Cash when he married her daughter Carlene. Great music but nothing can be cooler then being a singing Sil of the man in black.
The intro is brilliant.
Another classic also written with Ian Gomm
My wife and I met nick lowe by chance in los angeles in a restaurant (Columbia bar and grill),I remember here was this guy in restaurant smoking capstan full strength, I said to my wife hey gotta say hello must be a brit, ter was nobody else in the restaurant, so we go up to nick not really knowing who he was,so we started talking he said he was on a music break ,he was working with coudar and elvis costello, I said wow who are you he says nick,I said nick lowe, yeah mate he says I said
Cruel to be kind, please to meet you nick, your big time.we had a good chat, then we left
That year was in 1990 we met nick lowe, great guy,as me being a fellow brit I was very interested in talking to nick
I listened to music since the 50s I put this well at the top.
Oh I can't take another heartache
Though you say you're my friend, I'm at my wit's end
You say your love is bonafide, but that don't coincide
With the things that you do
And when I ask you to be nice, you say
You've gotta be cruel to be kind, in the right measure
Cruel to be kind, it's a very good sign
Cruel to be kind, means that I love you, baby
(You've gotta be cruel)
You gotta be cruel to be kind
This is good . Even though I did'nt hear It the first time around .
Awesome seeing this done actually by RockPile. Always liked this song from way back when M TV actually played Videos
Had this when I was about 13 year's old. I'm 57 where did that go
Thanks for uploading. Cheers.
Love the song and love the video quality. Sony Beta and PAL looks great to my American eyes. Our old NTSC standard could not hold a candle to it.
Great Song.
Always love this song
The bass guitar looks like a prop ha ha
On TOTP it is, in the studio or live , Nick does great bass.
I remember buying "Labour of Lust" the week it was released in the US. It all lay in front of them. Nick seems so earnest in this clip. And it appears that D.E. is playing a Gibson Everly Brothers acoustic. Ah, those were the days.
I did the same thing...played it so often my three other roommates at school ended up buying the album. Dose of You, American Squirm, Without Love....excellent album!
I remember my BF in high school buying the album summer of 79 after we graduated....we laughed at the lyrics of “Switchboard Susan”
Beautiful song🎹
Wow. What a song!
Love this tune..:)
Charming!
love this song
Love the drum intro😅.
Oh. terrific chorus!!!!!
Awesome song 👍
Great song!
Top shelf pop song!
Consistently brilliant artist
thanks. man.
I'm impressed that video tape held up after all those years! The unfortunate thing about video tape is it doesn't last as long as FILM does. Right now Hollywood is rushing to get all of their video taped programming (sitcoms, etc.) from the 70s on to digital to preserve them....it is probably too late, as the episodes of "All in the Family" already show permanent deterioration in the quality of the picture!
Reminds me of a girl I had a crush on when I was probably 9 😘
Then that makes you about 50 in today's world 😉 Call it 49 i suppose.
Memories Simple 👍👍🇬🇧❤️😲🙏
Takes me back
Great voice and song!
Fab!!
Epic song on every front
Just love this song
Does anyone notice that faint crack in his voice when he goes for the higher notes? It actually sounds good to me, but I'm not sure if it's intentional by him. It sounds a bit shaky, like his voice is on the verge of cracking. But it doesn't quite crack. He gets through it, but it sounds a little shaky when he goes for it.
Brilliant artist nonetheless.
I thought I was the only one who noticed such detail! I also noticed hiss very slight facial and body tremors..I do think it was nervousness when he appeared on TOTP-his gestures and voice didn't behave that way in the original wedding video...He's STILL SO DAMN SEXY (those eyes, the grin, and of course, even at 70yrs old...the hair are ALL STILL UNMISTAKABLY NICK LOWE!!)
@@lindadegraaf9297 I remember one night at the Roxy (music club in LA), I was there to see John Hiatt and I ran into his wife and sat with her. She told me Nick Lowe had been in John's dressing room and the two of us giggled like schoolgirls talking about how Nick was so great looking. (Which was not to take anything away from his musical talents.) This was probably sometime in the 80s.
GOLD GOLD GOLD GOLD
David 'kid' Jensen was the presenter.
