    Titanfall 2 and Dishonored 2's time bending levels were both amazing. They created fun new challenges and really opened up the creative potential on how to get through them. Kudos to both dev teams.

      See this has come up before and they missed it there as well.
      The time travel mechanic was ripped off from Prince of Persia sands of time and Warrioir Within.
      Especially the second one where actively moving backwards and forwards in time progress the levels and changed the areas.
      As in on section where you do a water puzzle and then later needing to go back in time to undo it so that you can progress. But this then impacts you again later both if passing through or in the second cycle. The game has you replay sections it as different characters in different parts of the timeline.

      That ending is still one of my all time faves. What a gut punch of a reveal. Really well played. Gael mutated and driven mad in his quest for the pigment of the Dark Soul was heartbreaking and you are the only one who can save him by putting him to rest. In my opinion, it’s the greatest boss fight in games and a perfect final confrontation for the trilogy. The time travel backdrop may not be obvious at first but boy was it perfectly executed.

    • @illburnmydread
      @illburnmydread Před 10 měsíci

      The main character actually is not reverted back, he keeps all of his skills, and he carry all of their friends equipments too. Only their friends got reverted back to low level, and you can immediately give them your better equipments. It's not really a bad thing, because you can just gain their level and relearn their skills faster after reaching the point of story where it start to differ from the original timeline, and it's not really that lengthy, because despite most of your heroes are getting reverted back to low level, your main character isn't, he can solo all of the enemies even bosses after that certain boss, then suddenly the random enemies are totally changed from the original, giving lot of exp to make your party catches up fast to your main character.

    • @KaeWinters
      @KaeWinters Před 10 měsíci

      I'm a bit Dragon Quest fan, and there's always a post-boss section of the game. Often just an extra dungeon with leveled up enemies and some extra bosses, or a boss rush mode. DQXI was almost an entire other half game; not only do you get to go back in time and redo one of the most pivotal and emotional plot points, but you're OP as hell (the hero retains his items and abilities, it's just the rest of the party that's leveled down) and get to continue a whole new time line with new missions and enemies. It was genuinely so cool to see them do something so ambitious and new for a series that's been going for 30ish years.

      @@illburnmydread no, iirc, he is, he's just in his own body again.
      there's a way to duplicate stuff you had on your party when this happens - it works for the mc, too, iirc, therefore he's gone 'back' into his own body at the time. he just also has all the stuff since then, in their magic backpack, as well
      edit: nevermind, you're talking levels, for some reason i assumed you meant, he didn't actually travel back in time.

    • @TogonzoMedia
      @TogonzoMedia Před 10 měsíci

      Honestly, I had the game spoiled for me when someone made a Reddit thread explaining how DQ11 is actually Dragon Quest Zero - a prequel to the original - and how it links them altogether in one universe. It sounded hokey as fuck and I just HAD to buy the game and figure out how it was all pulled off, and they did it brilliantly - especially with the time travel mechanic. Most games that muck and meddle with time travel always leaves you with a void - a cognitive dissonance that leaves you hollow from the inherent contradictions of the very concept, but DQ11's implementation gives you a sense of finality simply because that "do over" allows the MC to rescue and preserve the entire DQ universe and it's specific line of heroic descendents. The nostalgia and emotional rollercoaster you as the MC go through to establish yourself as the FIRST in the Erdrick line was just so phenomenal that I've been considering a second playthrough of it for the last few months.

    Dragon Age Inquisition has an entire Timey-Wimey quest called "In Hushed Whispers". This is the quest you choose to do if you want to recruit the Mages. It's good enough, though most people felt it was just a way to shoehorn time travel into the game..."for some reason" ;) . One can only assume it's because it's going to be some mechanism for DA4's story. That being said, the quest to recruit the Templars instead was far superior story wise.

      @@caliburn1123Really? I think it's a vastly weaker quest. The Timey-Wimey stuff doesn't make sense...it's a terrible macguffin that really has no place in DA. It's never properly addressed, especially all is said and done, and don't get me started on haw Fiona is supposed to an educated Grand Enchanter but does stuff that is profoundly stupid and nonsensical. I DO prefer Samson as far as the secondary bad guy, but Calpernia is good as well.
      I've always felt we should have been able to do BOTH quests, with diminishing returns on how many people get from whichever we choose to do second- though to be fair, it's barely noticeable that we get anything with either one. We get Fiona standing around being worthless, and we get to promote Sir Barris, and have him involved in War Table missions, which was nice. Fiona should have been imprisoned and/or executed.

    Missing from the list:
    * Chronotrigger - Take your pick. The entire game is about time travel.
    *Command and Conquer - Red Alert 2 - Yuri's Revenge - Bonkers but fantastic game about changes to the past in a time machine.
    * Day of the Tentacle - Time machine used to good effect.

    DQ11 could have been explained a bit better, it's choosing to go back in time, lose all those memories with your friends, lose all those characterization changes to go back in time and save the one friend who sacrificed herself to save the whole group
    You go back in time and your best friends are more cold to you, they haven't travelled the world with you as much, your enemy turned bestie hates you again, you're restarting a lot of your friendships to save one person.
    Like if you could go back in time could you rizz your current partner? maybe maybe not

    My favorite time travel use is in Bravely Second where it's revealed the reason Deneb was the generic shopkeeper in the two games was because they needed to keep meeting you as much as possible to save Tiz's life, and the easiest way for them to do that was to just be the generic shopkeeper in an RPG. (It helps that they're also the save point) So they just time traveled to the start of the first game and became the one person you would keep running into since boundaries on space-time don't apply to them.

    Titan fall 2 and dishonored 2 did it so well. Glad to have experienced them both. I loved the onimusha games as well such a good time in gaming with original dlcs and God of wars. Dragon quest 11 is the game that just keeps on giving. You can put all your str + magic+ type items and to use them twice because it puts them in your inventory but they're still equiped. If you think way ahead

    That shit was funny as hell especially the last one. This channel is addictive for some reason I like the sound that plays at the beginning of the videos Falcon's voice for some reason make things entertaining and the fact he just straight up says what he thinks & is funny makes it more entertaining. The videos where he crisizes game companies & games a lot of times I agree with him. The videos with Jake the before you buys & the gaming news are always pretty great too . This is one channel I watch regularly and is always great.

      not nearly as worth mentioning, but there's a bit with time bs in shadows of loathing, too - not just, you're given access to a time gate ish door you cna move around to solve local issues, but also, you end up running into yourself, literally, and future you gives you stuff you're supposed to give up later, just because. like, the first one is meat (the currency - it's a weird game), and you'll eventually start running into copies of yourself and either giving the meat back or delaying it.
      there's a few more events, too, as well as a boostrap paradox of, you giving yourself a shipment of medical bandages or something like that, then you tell yourself they're in the basement of your uncle's shop. to get the box to give to yourself later, you go back to your uncle's shop, tell the handyman ish guy, he goes down and finds them, except he has no idea they were down there, so shouldn't have found them.
      normally, a paradox like this would be solved with 'it always worked out this way' except here, you're deliberately changing the timeline, so unless that's only true 'for you' it is a paradox.
      course, this game is mroe interested in humor than seriousness, so, no biggie.
