- Let’s talk about all things soup. The broke man’s soup can be made and manipulated to fit anyone’s needs. Use whatever you vegetables and protein you have on hand, spice it up, and toss it into a pot with good broth- it’s hard to go wrong and mess up.

Did you happen to move to where you live now from Mooresville N.C. ?
I came here to ask about it, ty
what do you feed your dog and still stay within your budget?
I got the candle ! Thank you !
wow is this candle really beeswax!?? thats such a great price!!
It's funny how people always say, you just stay at home all day doing nothing! What people don't realize it takes more hours than a day has to really PROVIDE for your family as a woman. We have so much more physical time, labor and emotional and mental work than people can fathom! You are and awesome homemaker!
Haha I most definitely work harder at home than I ever did in an office 😊
Before becoming disabled, back when I was married, I came down with bronchitis (flu, something similar) not long after we were married, so... small apartment, resting on the couch, napping, watching tv, and I got to see first-hand ALL that being a housewife entailed. It's sooooooooooo NOT "Peggy Bundle"- home- on- the-couch- eating- bonbons- all- day kind of lazy and boring. I was exhausted after a day of watching it! I told her I was gonna go back to the office where I could relax! LOL!
Exactly! And women who work in offices don’t have shopping, laundry, gardening, food preserving, house cleaning, child care…oh, wait.

I have just subscribed. I am almost 70 and was married in the 1970's to a very very active man. Our grocery budget was $20.00/week. I waited tables and he was doing heavy labor 9 hours a day and we're both still going to school. First gas crunch then and major inflation. I learned to bake bread, forage ( which didn't work out so well... In my experience, there is a taste reason for for foraged food not being commercially grown). I basically can squeeze a penny till Lincoln screams. I have never successfully been able to make a sourdough starter. I have always used cheesecloth rather than a coffee filter. I just had a Eureka moment from this episode. Thank you so much! I am going to try this with fermenting anything else I can think of as well. (If there are weird, nonsensical words in this comment, alI I can say is that apprently my spell check knows what I want to say more than I do.
That’s an amazing budget to stick to! Good luck with trying your sourdough starter again 💕 I’m so glad you’re here!
Love this comment 🥰 she squeezes that penny real hard 🥰
Most folks don't realize how difficult the late 70s and early 80s were. They seem to think these are the most difficult times in history. The rationing of gas, the lines based on odd, even days ... the insanely high home interest rates (peaked at almost 19%) in '82)1. And even with all that, the 70s and 80s weren't even the "truly hard times." When I hear young couples saying today is the hardest time ever, I just laugh. Struggling when you're just getting started is the norm! I applaud the young folks who just step up, live frugally, and do what needs to be done.
Enjoyed reading your comment, especially "squeeze a penny till Lincoln screams"! I'd never heard that one before. In the UK, some of us say "till the pips squeak". Love to hear different phrases meaning the same thing.
@gracecotton9819 - thanks for your comment! I have never heard that before. I'd love to hear more like that from the UK. Hello from Texas!
Just found your channel and am LOVING it. I’m so tired of designer kitchens and everything looking like a Pinterest photo. This is real life and real food. Just subscribed!
Couldn't agree more Michele!
Same here ❤
Thank you. Me too😊
💯 !!!
If you love these kinds of videos where it’s not Pinterest kitchen where everything is peachy, I hope you’ll also try Touko’s Kitchen channel here in CZcams. She’s Japanese though but there’s a subtitle and it’s really a breath of fresh air to see women doing these chores of love involving kids and family
I make soup several times a month using dried beans. Very economical and healthy 😁 I always soak my beans overnight, and remove a cup or two of the soup when it’s done cooking and pulse in a blender before returning it to the soup, which makes the broth creamier and tastier! I grow herbs all year long, even greens such as dinosaur kale for my white bean soup 🥣 All of these things save money on a food budget. Black bean soup, black bean enchiladas, black bean hummus. For a little over a dollar a pound, one can be very creative with nutritious beans 🫘
I am 80. Lived through the 70s and 80s with 3 children. Moved to the farm 1973 to help husband's mother. Learned to cook from scratch as we called it back then. It was rough but we made it.
I love your kitchen with the dog asleep on the floor and the baby strapped to your back. So homey, cozy and real l. ❤
Thank you! 😊 It really is a cozy life
Are you sure you see a dog?...I thought I saw a small horse sleeping in the kitchen!😉
I agree with you.
The dog looks so thin and with scars or something…
I agree. The dog does look thin.
Perhaps it's an older dog. If not, please have it checked by a veterinarian for illness.
Those little hands and sweet feet!
What a calm and soothing demonstration of good old-fashioned cooking. Delicious, nutritious, and frugal! Thank you, Laramie.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it 💕
I LOVE how you cover your babies face...doing your due diligence for your children's safety is absolutely a wonderful thing.
New sub❤
I just wanted to thank you for keeping it real on a social media platform. Normally it's a lot of faking and pretending and thats really exhausting for viewers.
You are such a level-headed young woman. You are a blessing to other young woman who are looking for someone their age who can teach them the value of putting her family’s welfare above the unnecessary things in life.
I subscribed and look forward to learning too. I may be old, but this old dog is always on the lookout for ways to cut back.
Thank you so much for your kind words and being here ♥️
You encouraged me so much earlier this week!!! I bought the turkey and we ate it last Sunday, had it in turkey and wild rice soup, put it into a quiche for a breakfast, and then made a pasta bake with the last of the meat and used all my "old" last veggies in the fridge...and I have made 6 quarts of turkey bone broth that I put into the freezer. Thanks for the thoughts and push to be more of a fighter. I have always done this but you really gave me a big loving pep talk. I am heading to do my big grocery shopping in a couple of days, this is when I shop for my family of seven for 2-3 weeks at a time. I have really thought a lot and look forward to seeing what I can do to decrease how much I am spending.
Great Job!! I’m so proud of you 🥹 that menu sounds delicious!
I’m so happy and thankful I found this channel! We live the same lifestyle and seeing someone else’s journey helps me realize I’m not alone and I can also learn so much from you as well! Yay, can’t wait to catch up on the other videos.
I'm so glad! Thanks for being here! 💕
Thanks for the video. The captions need to linger a little longer.
Noted! Thank you for your feedback 💕
I noticed you were removing the dark meat from the bones for your soup. My spouse and i love the dark meat more than the white meat ( I know we re weird ). We struggle to eat the turkey breast so we transform it to turkey pot pie or sheppards pie or quesadillas. The carcass makes a big soup for us as well. Nothing goes to waste like in your family. Happy new year.
We love the dark meat!
❤Just found your channel last week and subscribed! I think it’s great that you’re teaching people these skills. I’m probably your grandma’s age and was raised by parents who grew up during the depression- and I’ve always been very frugal. Not many women are living like your family - but someday they’ll wish they had . Keep up the good work- it pays off! Also, I think you and your baby are adorable!
Our lifestyle is not the norm for most, but we couldn’t do it any other way ♥️ thank you so much for being here!
Very well done! There is nothing cosier than a good pot of soup. Congratulations on you first thousand subscribers. ❤
Thank you so much 🤗
Even as a single gal I make everything from scratch. And I didn’t know adding apple cider vinegar to the bone broth helps bring out the nutrients, so I’ll try that next time. I normally put mine in the crockpot for six- eight hours everyone who buys chicken or turkey can get the best bone broth after. Another sidenote, instead of adding cream or milk to mashed potatoes, had bone broth it’s amazing.
So glad you came up on my feed, I'm really enjoying your video's. Lovely to see your dear baby on your back ❤❤
I’m so glad you’re enjoying them! She’s really one of the best babes around 💕
CZcams just recommended your channel to me today and I can't wait to see more! I am thoroughly impressed with your ability to strain the stock through a flat strainer, I would have had it all over my stove! :-)
Welcome!! It’s definitely a practiced talent 🤣
Me too! I kept looking for even a tiny spill, but no none. I personally had to use a wide mouth funnel 😂
I wish this was smell a vision. That looks delicious. Your videos are super calming for me. Informative. I really enjoy them. Keep them coming. God bless your family ❤
It was so good 😊
Glad I found your channel tonight! I've subscribed and binge watched 😊. I raised 6 littles and didn't have a home computer til 2001- internet was dial-up/awful then. I sure wish I had access to CZcams videos such as this then! I was "strange" to most people/women who looked down upon me for being a SAHM after our 3rd child. I was your age then- and Over the Moon to be able to stay home and raise our littles with Our Values, nurse my babies, and make home cooked meals! I ignored the ridicule. I could have used the support of people such as you then, Laramie! I felt so alone in my/our decisions how to raise our family. My 6 littles are now grown. 5 are doing well. 1 struggles. I keep praying. But bless you for having the courage to be the mom/family that you are in this exceptionally concerning culture. God Bless You.
Oh my initial reason for responding is that due to limited eyesight from birth- I can't keep up with subtitled videos. I much prefer your speaking videos.
Two of my nieces are health conscious frugal SAHMs. I couldn’t be more proud of them!
Hi, I'm brand new to your channel and love it!!! I also love your horizontal candle and searched Amazon and found it. Just ordered it a couple of days ago. Can't wait to get it...I love your honesty and how you are feeding your family. I cook all meals at home and love it!!
Greeting from Ireland. Just came across your channel. It’s very relaxing to watch and great tips too. Thank you 🇮🇪
I love how realistic you are. Thanks for the inspiration❤️
What a lovely video. You are such a good mum! So glad I found your channel. Sending best wishes.
Oh thank you for your kind words 💕 I appreciate you watching!
I love your videos and being able to see a glimpse into your life. I’m so happy for your quick success with your channel.
Your videos are so calming to watch ❤ So enjoyable!
I love this! It feels so calming watching you cook and reading the information. ❤
You’re very kind. Thank you for watching!
A pot of soup simmering on the stove feeds the spirit first - welcoming you in from the cold -- then it nourishes the body with its broth and tasty vegetables. When we lived up north I made soup a couple times a week --- We were restoring a 120 year old home and coming in from clearing snow or bringing in firewood, nothing was better than smelling a pot of soup simmering or bread baking. Sometimes I'd even just keep a pot of broth on a very low simmer and pour us each a mug of that instead of tea, to warm us up.
Be blessed!
Love this. It does feed the spirit. We often do mugs of broth instead of tea. It’s my children’s request!
Hello, sweet lady. My husband is ninety, and I’m middle sixties. We work a piece of land, and I take care of a house. Soups have always saved me. A couple times a month I make a huge pot, break it down into freezer bags, and am set for hearty meals when we are swamped with work. It’s a healthy alternative. You remind me of my grandparents. Once a week they made icebox soup. They cleaned the fridge, and everything went in the pot. It was never the same, but always good. Our house saying, “nothing goes to waste.” Blessings all.
I really enjoy your channel, because this is very similar to how my family rolls. We're truly blessed!
Your pup❤ loving your real life down to earth home cooking . I so needed this.
I’m glad you enjoyed ♥️
I just found your channel and I'm binge watching your videos 😊. I make my own celery salt by picking the celery leaves off, putting them into a mason jar and covering with seal salt . It sits for several weeks. You will know when it's ready when you open the jar and smell celery. The salt preserves the celery so it won't go bad.
That’s a great idea! Thank you for being here ♥️
Laramie, bless you, your family and your channel! 💕
You are so kind!
A soup base like this one can also become a casserole, with a thick gravy it can top rice or pasta when extra calories are needed. If you're short of time a crock pot is an alternative. I'm an empty nester, but for years I'd have between two and four freezer bags of vegetable trimmings and bones, which would be cooked once or twice a month to create various batches of broth or stock to be frozen or dehydrated for storage (now I just jar a batch in the pressure canner a couple times a year).
Laramie, Thank you for sharing your soup recipe with us. I like to make my own broth, too. Your dinner looked delicious! Take care, Linda 🦋
I bet your broth is delicious 😋
@@TheProductiveHomemaker I've never tasted it, lol. But, I notice a difference when I use it. I do the same as you and save all my veg scraps for stock. 😊
Ive just watched this video. One thing I do to get the best flavor for broth, is to roast the bones first then make the broth. Brings in alot of flavor!
Your a very wise lady .. Ive found having less has made me more creative . Awesome Chanel , love from Nova Scotia
This looks so delicious! I’m a huge fan of soups and making your own broth! Thanks for sharing!
I am so glad I stumbled on to your page. I love your videos. Can't wait to watch more.
Been there, done that. Same story as @Back. The '70's were not fun, and trying to stretch that $20 at the grocery store was stressful. But times got better and I check it all down to experience.
One thing I decided to do this year is keep the juice from the pumpkin I baked for making desserts. My mom always dumped the juice down the drain when she pressed the juice out of her pumpkin to make puree. I realized that if I keep the juice in a container in the fridge, I can add it to soup or rice for nutrients and flavor.
That’s a wonderful idea!
I just found your channel! Subscribed. Truly inspiring. Love it. Thank you kindly.
Another amazing video! Thank you so much. While I am anxiously waiting on how to make sour dough starters I’m watching all the rest of your videos in my free time!
So happy the good Lord have brought me to this channel ☺️ Your strength is inspiring
Thank you so much! You are so kind 💕
Someone who cooks the same as me ! I wondered how many of us where left out there that can make everything from scratch. I just use olive oil instead of lard. What a great video thanks
It is always so nice to meet other likeminded cooks ♥️ welcome to my channel!
Love your candle, its the most beautiful one I have seen.
Thank you for your practical and encouraging videos!🙂
I’m so glad you’re enjoying them!
I just found your channel and I am hooked!! I made a commitment when COVID started to make the most of what you have. Eating from your pantry and reducing food waste by being creative with meals..
That is awesome! Thanks for being here ♥️
I just am loving watching your video’s. I am a frugal cook also and I meal plan. I also cook once and eat twice. I’m a Mom of 4, Nanny of 8 and Great Nanny of 2. Blessings!!!
I have watched every video and all the shorts. Can’t wait for more😃
Thank you for adding in what the benefits of sourdough bread are. I had no idea even though I know a lot of homestead channels bake it all the time. The information is really helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
I've never been fond of soup, but I know lots of people enjoy it, and it's a great way to use up leftover veggies, etc.
I love this video! Very calming and informative😍
Thank you I enjoyed watching you, in todays times we need the soft music and just low key vid.
My new favorite page 💙 I am home recovering from covid, the Lord lead me to you page. So many questions have been answered in just 2 of your video's. Ty sooo much!!!
very enjoyable simple food and a real working kitchen with the family pet and a baby in tow... loving it from Australia!
I’m so glad you’re here ♥️
I make similar soups with homemade broth. I started adding rutabaga to it as well and its amazing.
it's amazing how nutrition has come back to rejuvenate old cooking methods. as a child i often sat at the kitchen table while my grandmothers cooked. now in my 60s I find myself returning to their methods and practices.
Can you try voice overs please. I don't read as fast as others & have to stop the video & restart it. I really really enjoy your content & do not want to miss anything. I am a sbscriber & watch your earlier videos several times to get everything. Thanks for reading this & lots of luck with your channel, it's great information.
Lots of pausing for me too lol
Noted! Thank you for your suggestions!
I don't mind the reading format too, it's relaxing,, but the overlays need to be up longer.
Quite often I will have CZcams on when I'm cooking or ironing. Voice overs would be great so I can get the great content you give without needing to watch every second. I am hooked, though! I would love to see the progress of your house. What does your pantry looks like? I totally geek out on pantries. 😂 Also, do you have a PO box? I feel compelled to send you a 'treat' that is just for you. Your outlook on life and desire to help others is so inspiring. Thank you for what you do. Laramie. It can quite often be a thankless job.
I really enjoyed watching you make this soup. I had to laugh when your dog popped their head up by the counter when you pulled out the turkey. My dog is the same way. She hangs around the kitchen too. I've never made homemade stock but might try it this year. I just subscribed.
Glad you enjoyed it. Dogs are so fun. He’s a great companion 💕
Soup and bread on a snowy freezing day like today is the best. I saw puppy hoping a bit of turkey would fly off that cutting board....☺
I love the candle! I've been struggling to come up with Christmas gifts for a few friends, and this is perfect. I ordered 3. Thank you!
Ahhh I’m so glad you like them! They’re a lot of fun ☺️
Enjoy seeing the pup at your feet! There is nothing like home cooked food as far as I am concerned. Looks delicious! Thank you for the candle link. There is nothing like a beeswax candle!
I love the meditative feel of your videos. And that is one delicious looking soup.
I just subscribed to your channel and I have to say that I love the candle that you have in your kitchen.
I’ve been making this soup since I was a child and I’m 70 now! I grew up in a very frugal family in the north west of England and we called this lobby or lobscouse. It’s always delicious no matter what leftover meat I use. Thank you for your lovely channel ❤
That’s a fun name for it! Thank you for being here ♥️
Just subscribed! Your videos are so great! Wonderful, wholesome food that we can all make. Watching you cooking and seeing the yummy end result is so satisfying and informative! 😊
I’m so glad you’re enjoying! Thank you for being here ♥️
I love the way you cook. Wholesome foods from scratch. I'm the same. Things just taste better and you know what's in it!
i enjoy the simplicity of your channel and it reminds me so much of how I made home when my children were younger. I still enjoy the home arts and even today, I made some tortilla soup and it gives me such satisfaction. Separately-the sharp notes of the music bothered my ears so I was really glad you had subtitles so I could still enjoy the video. Best to you and many thanks!
I can’t tell you how happy I was to see that you added the link to your candle that I see on the countertop each time you cook! I love that candle so much and I was going to ask you where you got it but honestly I thought it was an antique that would be very difficult or next to impossible to find. I’m thrilled to see that I may be able to purchase one for myself. I haven’t checked the link yet but I’m headed there as soon as I am done watching this video. Thank you for sharing your time and recipes with us.
Edit: just went to Amazon and purchased the candle and I can’t wait to receive it! They even have a vertical one and a few other designs but the one you have is my fav so that’s what I went with! 😊💕
Hi there!! I am really enjoying your channel. I’m pretty sure I watched all of your videos over the last few days. You are so encouraging and calming and I loooove that you are so young and SMART in your kitchen and you’ve decided to share with others! I look forward to future videos from you and pray that God blesses you with lots of success!
Thank you so much for your kind words!! I’m so glad that you found me ♥️
That is the neatest candle ive ever seen on the left of the screen x
Just subscribed😊 Laramie you are such an inspiration. This senior is looking forward to learning a lot from you!
Well welcome! And thank you for your kind words ♥️
Using the coffee filters on your sourdough starter is genius!!
I just learned about adding about a teaspoon of some sort of acid, vinegar, lemon, etc. Really helps round out the flavor. The soup you’re making is so yummy. What a great job you are doing with your life. I am learning so much from you. Keep going!
Oh interesting! I’ll have to try that! Thank you for the suggestion ♥️
You and your family are smart!!
I loved this video! It was so helpful and I’m going to ask someone in my community if they have some sour dough start I’d love to try! I love when you do voice overs bc then I can listen and cook at the same time! Happy thanksgiving
Yes! Many sourdough bakers are thrilled to share and talk about it. Good luck 💕
1k 🎉 I just love your videos ❤
Thank you 💕
P.S. Love the scratchy record soundtrack, love the good dog at your feet, and I love your genuineness.
You are so kind. I’m so glad you enjoyed it ♥️
Congratulations on 1k subscribers!
Thank you so much 😀
Omg your coffee filter idea is genius
Looks delicious. And, I loved your candle. Never seen one like that before. :-)
Thank you! 🤗 it’s fun!
Love this..
Thank you ♥️
I ❤ your channel! Reminds me of when my kids were little, and I did all the frugal things. You do a good job of making it a little more romantic. For me, it was always a lot of dishes and a big mess!😂
Thank you!! Oh yes, we have a ton of dishes and messes all day long, HA! But they’re beautiful messes ♥️
Like you, I try never to waste anything. This year I made all kinds of jellies: corn cob jelly and we foraged a lot this year: dandelion jelly, lilac jelly and elderberry jelly.
I love your candle and candle holder it beautiful
Thank you! It’s found on Amazon if you want to check out the information on it. ♥️

Soup is always a wonderful healthy thing to make. It nourishes the body & taste really good. I like to make corn muffins with good hot soup.
This was every meal(home made) when I was growing up. TV dinners became edible in my early 20's and frozen food was hitting its stride. Pre made stuff is getting out of control and if we want to eat and have a roof over our heads, this is what we are going to have to go back to. Thanks for the vids, I love them.
Just a little suggestion..😊 . I struggled with knocking towels off my stove towel bar for decades before i figured out to put a clothespin on each side, clipping the edges together, and avoiding bending over so many times. It is easier than adding buttons and loops to all of your towels and come off in a snap to wash the towels.
Your channel is happy and positive and educational. Thanks for your hard work!
I am a new subscriber and am enjoying you information. On request is to leave your written information up longer. I never seem to be able to complete the comments. Keep up the good work!!
Would love to see how you organize your freezer and maybe your fridge. I feel like my freezer is the place where food goes to die before being thrown out.
Definitely pick up a cheap mesh strainer it’ll make straining the broth and other things in the kitchen so much faster and easier. much easier since it’s curved. I used to use the splatter screen too but I had no idea there were mesh strainers, it was life changing for me haha
I love a good soup. I’ll be making pasta e fagioli later today.
That’s sounds delicious 😋
My favorite soup, if not too spicy! 😋
@@3TXSisters I leave out the Italian sausage and add kale. It’s a vegan version and not too spicy that way!
@@tenthousanddaysofgratitude 😋
I like your baby backpack!!😂😂Please go back to speaking in your videos. Your voice is calming and was the number 1 thing that drew me to your channel!❤
Great video, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
That little pumpkin was so cute! Just knocked out sleep on your back!🥰
She’s one of my best helpers 💕
