The tension from watching this type of deck, trying to stay alive until you can assemble creature type Voltron provides a lot of value
Honestly didnt expect to see this card work as well as it seems to
It doesn't work that well... The guy piloting it is the one responsible for the magic to happen❤
i won a sealed event with gishat/throne/thunder gnome in a 5c deck. and it wasnt even close most of the time just very grindy. turned the thron every time i played it (6 times over 7) was super fun and defo easier than it looked
hmmm I wonder how it'd to in something like historic where you have access to shapeshifters... Probably too high of a power level there but... Maybe?
THE GRAVEYARD IS A RESOURCE I CAN BE TRUSTED WITH
editing is a hell of a helper :)
Just wanna say that I really appreciate the way you write your descriptions. I know it's tempting to just write "Naya" or "URG" and leave it at that, but not only writing out the colors but also explicitly connecting them to the common term helps make your content much more accessible, and gently inducts new players into the community. That kind of thoughtfulness is how your channel got me way more involved in MTG than I was before it, and partly why you're my favorite MTG content creator to this day.
That first game was wild!!
Man it’s pretty cool when I’m watching you and I’m like “I think I played you the other day” the. I see my name on the screen. GGs brother, you’re one of the ones that got me started in magic the past year. I was lionhearted.
How do people still play monored and not get insane? Sorry to say, but I have never seen a more boring deck. Guess i'm just delusional because the number of players really speak against me
@@nicknick1766Most players don't have the wildcards to try out new decks and therefore choose to make mono red, which is both cheap and has a high winrate, in order to grind out the ladder and earn more
@@nicknick1766 Whilst I can't speak to current standard, mono-red often has formats with quite interesting decisions paths, especially in best of three.
Whilst some games are linear, decided-by-the-opening-hand affairs, that can happen with any decent archetype. It's the close, tight games that allow for lots of skill expression as you evaluate your limited resources and determine the worth for trading time for board presence, seasoned with just enough top-deck tension that activates the Skinner box dopamine parts of the brain. That keeps the experience fresh and exciting and the play patterns varied in many matchups. For me, at least, more so that whatever board-based curvout midrange pile is the current hotness.
Again, not saying this is the case for every format. Nor am I saying there aren't times where it's brainless. But the times where the brain has to activate I find to be increadably rewarding.
@@nicknick1766 Because not everybody started to play when you did, like different playstyles than you do or just wanted to play 1-2 fast rounds?
@@lucabaumert7764 i like different and fast playstyles as well, and yeah thats the point, no other deck keeps popping up like this one for such an extended period. Its baffling that you are still forced to play like 6/10 games against red if you just want to enjoy standard play q. Also the playmaking and variety in this deck is so damn limited, i don't get how you could enjoy it for more than 10 games. Still, i admitted that the numbers speak against me, so there are obvious reasons why it keeps coming
Match 7 here, super nice playing against you! Lovely to see my misplays in recap:D Amazing brew as always:)
Nice playing you!

"Against... turn one mountain"
That one caught me off guard, it was funnier that I'm willing to admit
I have had a lot of success with using the blue pirates in this deck. The 2/1 that draws a pirate or an artifact can help get the throne into your hand and the new 2/3 flyer that turns an creature into an artifact has been great removal
Kitesail is a disgusting card
Those are indeed a good reason to dip into blue, even if the hit rate on Crewmate wouldn't be very high.
@@LegenVD The crewmate in my deck has enabled some pretty solid wins. Even if it doesn't find the throne, finding breeches is another big hit, considering the cap is also a pirate. The worst next to whiffing is getting a second crewmate off the top, plus even if you do whiff, it meant no throne for 4 draws so a deck shuffle helps a lot.
Craft is probably my favourite set mechanic of the last couple of years. Really intuitive and simple
Craft is pretty cool, not as dope as Discover but it's up there
@@brettvandermeer5297 Mutate is king!
@@dzellomutate takes the cake for me. I love the stacking effects. Getting a big mutate pile and getting 10+ triggers is awesome. Unfortunately it's just not intuitive, based on how many people complain about it's complexity.
@@bye1551 Mutate was the best, it sucks it was too complex and ended up being unsupported over the long run because it's such an interesting mechanic to expand on.
@@dzello yeah mutate really needs a lot of good cards with it to make it viable, which I guess is what makes it bad as a set mechanic (since it needs expansion). Hopefully whenever we go back to ikoria it gets more support because I agree it had a lot of potential.
I love how you never give up. I would have conceded game 1 so early 😅
This is actually one of the dumbest things in arena. Players concede at the faintest fart they hear.
I had a game in Historic brawl where i had 3/4 Vadrik, Astral Archmage in play and 1 card in hand, while my opponent had 1 weak and 1 strong creature on the board and 5 cards in hand. I was like "damn this is a loss already", but i played the last card i had which was a Time Warp...my opponent instantly conceded.
I was like..."Whaaaat? I don't have any other card to play, i can't even attack you dude", but i guess my opponent was too much of a loser to even see i had very little chance in that game.
@@LordKoKuyou the odds of winning are low and I don't see the point of dragging out a game when I can instantly queue up another one
Your brew is wonderful. I just saw Seth's brew and was underwhelmed. Having better payoffs and giving haste is a brilliant addition. Thank for another amazing brew.
Been hoping for this since the release!!!! Thanks Luca, you're the best!!!
I am never going to get tired of these Voltron decks. Well done!
We can always count on you to create the most elegant, clever, somehow competitive version of a deck. Didn't expect the captain to be viable, but here you are.
Loved game one! Great video, as always!
This is such a cool deck, good job!
Very cool deck and a nice representation of the current set!
This deck granted you my subscription. Fun as hell and pretty effective !
Awesome, thank you!
Awesome. Love this Naya variation. Was hoping to see something like this.
Haste enabler (bitter reunion in this case) seems critical
Lots of eggs in one basket so being able to get the immediate value even if they have a sweeper ready for it seems huge
I know best of 1 gets more clicks and videos but i would really like to see you jam some best of 3 games. i enjoy the thoughts that would go into sideboarding
Agreed!
It would save us from seeing so many boring mono-red matches too.
This is superb games, thank you
Ah i enjoyed crafting on runescape and now i shall enjoy it on Magic The Gathering! Nice deck man!
That first game... good lord! You are a paragon of never giving up. What a turnaround!
And the great thing about this deck is that you WANT mono red or black decks to remove your early creatures, which is perfect for the current meta.
Fun combo!
Holy crab. ^^
What an explosive deck.
The Grim Captain is such a funny and cool card.
Was really hyped to watch you play it after seeing the card in a recent video in an opponents deck. And now its even a different version of the deck! VERY nice!
what a fun deck !
This deck is insane❤
That's a rally fun deck!
Love to see that everyone brews this deck differently
Sweet deck!!
This is the deck I was most excited for you to do when the spoilers dropped haha
love this deck might just craft it myself
Game 1 opponent has to be sitting there thinking "well that escalated quickly"
Brotherhood’s end could be a nice card to play in this deck
Wow that first game was amazing
5/8 games against monored aggro. Mainstay in BO1 indeed :/
But it's nice to see "jank" putting up a good fight against it.
Right!? It’s exhausting and a lame fact of mtg that will forever and always remain.
Lovely, the value alternative win con
Watching a mono red player concede at 20 hp never gets old.
Nice come back
One of the reasons that I'll never be really good at Magic is that I love jank like this
They aren't mutually exclusive!
The opponent sacrificing the 3/1 at 44:56 is something I've noticed about the captain. People don't realise they have to sac a nonland permanent before selecting blockers, they assume they're in select blockers step, go to select a blocker and blow up one of their best blockers. I've won a number of games from this mistake and honestly, it's hilarious :D
Voldaren Thrillseeker instead of breeches feels like it could be one turn kill out of nowhere
Not that you need it but if you want to remember Dinosaur, Vampire, Merfolk, Pirate remember that the Grim Captain takes a DVMP on mono red
trumpeting carnosaur is very impressive
Personally I like using the land cycling dinosaurs, I feel they add consistency, descend, and can help grab a triland when needed. Although I wouldn’t run more than 4 total
In pioneer a good sinergy can be jund so you can use sorin to get ghalta and mavren
Love to play Sorin with Ghalta and Mavren, did an Explorer deck with those two a while back.
@@LegenVD i want to make sorin-Ghaltamavren work with the skeleton
Hi thanks for all your work.
Do you think is it possible to make a budget standard deck of this?
I FUCKING LOVE THIS DECK!!!
Nice strange deck. Now need collect cards, any idea for budget version?
I want to see the Explorer version of this deck... RIP fable
Got on YT to watch CGB, ended up watching LegenVD instead
I would say LVD got pretty lucky in the games he shared here. No removal for the Throne, and no graveyard hate. Ossification and Trespasser would put this deck in its place, most likely. But it's still very, very cool when it pops off.
Not sure what Ossification i supposed to do. There really isn't much artifact removal that's seeing main deck play in Standard outside of Leyline Binding and Boseiju.
I swear on record the number of lands milled this video XD
Im playing a sultai version of this puppy in explorer. not a great winrate but damn is it fun
op card
What a cool way to defeat mono red in best of one. This deck is at least way more interesting than lifegain
Is it worth splashing blue to use that enigma jewel I think it's called that's a psuedo Sol ring. (Just thinking turn one throne could be menacing)Just for efficiency's sake? Also has craft and can produce mana for it's own ability if it got to that?
That's likely a completely different deck built around Jewel.
I want to see a build around discover or caves, I've been trying to make a boros discover with the 3 mana creatures like brutal cathar but I can't get it right, with the legendary that discovers on attack
Did a Caves video for the official MTG Arena channel.
@LegenVD sweet ill check that out thank you
Unsure if I would want to sun Gishath or etali in the deck tbh,
Think Etali has higher value while not in yard being easier to cast, IDK XD
Probably arguments for and against either really.
12:47 shuffler is fine
That's what I thought. 3 Epicures on top😂
What is that diamond with a gold reward at the end?
What historic brawl commander you most excited about LVD?
They're all quite fun, hope to cover them eventually.
Does a changeling count as all 4 for throne?
Sure, but you still need 4 creatures total.
12:45 yup shufflers fine
Most op shit ive ever seen
no brass tunnel grinder?
I like the effect, but can't really afford to play it in a monored meta.
Wizards: we have great deck diversity on arena
Arena: We have mono red, mono red, mono blue oh and some mono red. We also have this red/green deck but its basically mono red...
This is what Acerak wanted to be
The scout is called "seh-no-tay". It's a Spanish word for sinkhole. Don't worry about mispronouncing it, as long as you don't say "sea-note"
It’s also been adapted into English (obviously from it’s Spanish origins) but the pronunciation has been anglicized to suh-noh-tee so either pronunciation works with your example being the more “authentic” approach.
“Sea-note” is definitely wrong on all accounts though haha
Wow cant believe this actually works in a real game. In your experience, what are the odds of pulling the captain off in a game?
Haven't struggled with Crafting Captain in this deck.
Milling two cards each turn already goes a long way.
You should do 2/3 videosss
30:15 nice rhymes haha
Sad that prerelease is over and half the opponents are back to playing mono red. Learn to have fun playing Magic people!
Not only that, but creators are disincentivized to play BO3 where we might see less mono-red bc BO1 gets more views :/
Discover allows you to NOT cast the spell and instead put it in your hand so I think it's better to cast it than cycle
I'm almost at diamond playing a blue red list in Bo3, merfolk stifle and SB slip out the back mvps
Dammit, this deck looks so fuuuuun. My poor wildcards 😭
Why not use changelings? They are very easy to throw away and count for any creature type, then instead of searching for each type you only need to throw away 3 changeling and a dinosaur finisher
There aren't any in Standard.
😊
Not running the voldarian thrillseeker in this is a big loss. The number of games I've won because I can just sac a 9/9 lifelink creature directly to face is great. It's for sure more powerful than Ghalta and Mavern.
My first sealed event someone actually managed to flip The grim captain and kill me...
Crafted it for funsies.. played 3 games.
1. Mono red on the draw, was down to 10 life turn 2, dead turn 3
2. really, someone actually played a soul-light lantern in his deck and killed me
3. Played against the UW mill deck. got a bunch of Dino's in play, got cleared, got milled, dead.
so yeah, I am clearly doing something wrong here... :)
1 hp, a 1/1 and a 2/2 and then the next turn's board state....what...the...f...
It's amazing what a dreadful performance delver's had on arena. When I played legacy, delver was on most decks
They did get unlucky with their Delvers, but it has dropped off over the last few years for sure.
That first game made me so happy. I love watching Mono Red crybabies scoop because they weren't handed a free win on a silver platter.
lol what were they supposed to topdeck in that position? No reason to keep playing after you have a 7/7 lifelinker
@@prmperop exactly. My only comment is "SUFFER. *BITCH."*
It's not about the topdeck, it is about monored beeing the mcdonalds of Magic. At some point, you are just so damn tired of seeing it
Meep meep
New set drops, everyone is excited to try new cards and synergies, but the mono red mongrels still infest the standard queues. This is why I only play limited.
I really don't understand these new mechanics.
Yikes.
8 matches, 5 against mono red. That is all what you need to know about standard 🤮
Match 5 was hard to watch. Terrible string of cards
Sorry, fun deck, but crap in BO1, like almost everything that streamers come up with. Still entertaining.
So many boring mono red players
