    Great video. A word of advice. When blowing, tacking or spraying, ALWAYS work from the air intake toward the exhaust. It keeps trash and overspray flowing in the right direction. Thanks for the black widow videos. I think I'm going to get one.

    Watching you gives me the confidence to pick up a gun. I've learned a lot with rattle cans. From Dollar store flat primer gray on farm trucks to Rust-Oleum pro grade rattle cans on a Civic, to 2k clear on big wide hoods, to body filler and paint prep on entire panels. I'm ready to take the plunge and hope I can get at least half the results you get! Beers!

    Jon Kosmoski (aka god) says 400 (Dry) prior to basecoat. Is it universally agreed that wet sanding is at least one grit coarser than dry sanding. Therefore 600 wet is the coarsest you can go with wet sanding. I agree with Jon that the base will start to fill the 400 dry scratch and that the clear will completely eliminate them. For a flowcoat 500-600 dry is better as you've got less additional film build coming. The 3M 260L finishing film with an interface pad is the way to go. One fifth the time of wet sanding and a better scratch pattern to boot.

    thanks for the post Kraftie. Apparently clear coat and alcohol don't mix. They cause dry spots! I am painting my 73 std beetle in Porsche livery blue and orange. I have applied Valspar interclear over my base coats. I'm not finished the base coating yet. Because the shop is cold, small and poorly lighted and I only have 2 days per work on the car I am painting it in sections.
    After I get all the 2 tone base/interclear done I have to sand it down and do the GULF painted logos all over it. Great tip on the 600 grit, I'll drink to that...but not while I'm sprayin clear.

    You can buy a Devilbiss FLG-5 or an Iwata Bellaria W-400 for equal or less money and get the same or better results, more reliability and the ability to replace parts when they fail...and they will eventually. I'm not trashing Harbor Freight stuff as I have a bunch of their purple guns, the "professional" gun, and the 35 dollar detail gun, but they're all throw away guns because you can't get parts. When I'm spending 500 bucks per gallon of paint there's no way I'm going to use a disposable gun.

    Good video, appreciate you showing your errors. I wondered when you were going to remove the air valve for cleaning, then saw it pop out when you blew air into the inlet. You didn’t seem to notice at first. I just bought that gun and may have learned the hard way there is a right and wrong way to install the air valve. I tightened the fluid nozzle (with the valve not properly seated) and now worry about how well it will work (my bad). It is not a Murphy proofed design and there are no markings on the air valve to designate up from down.
    Thanks for the tip about wearing gloves while sanding.

    You seem to be understanding some of the problems you have with the finish, dry etc, but I’m uncomfortable with your fixing. 600 wet even on silver may be quick to knock down but you will see the scratches under the next clearcoat and no amount of buffing will give you clarity down to the colour as the scratches are trapped between coats. Minimum 800 grit on light colours and 1500 on dark colours is best to go for if you want to see thru the clear to the colour best.

    • @KarKraftsman
      @KarKraftsman  Před 2 lety +1

      The last step is clear coat. If you plan to paint your car the way you explained is exact. My video shows an additional step you can take so the clear coat lays as flat as possible, it is not necessary and it's only purpose is to quickly fix a bad situation.

      I'm obsessive about fisheye and wash panels 2 or 3 times before applying any paints or glue.
      If you're using a strong wax and grease remover after the base coat that could be it, I try not to use any solvents after I base.

Why u said is not good, millenkum gti 620g is probably better than gti pro lite, of course with the cap n2000 , the fan is identical, but the diference is that 620 gti uses almost 18 cfm at 40, u need like 120 gallon compressor. But 620 gti millenium is a hvlp beast for clear base and single stage ..
