  • Yesterday while cutting a rhinestone template out on a vinyl cutter I realized something major that happened in my garment decorating journey. I didn't realize why it happened previously but it just hit me yesterday that the Graphtech may have been the culprit to why I stopped cutting vinyl for so long. In this video I am going to tell the truth and explain my feelings on using the graphtec vs the Silhouette Cameo cutter. Let me know your thoughts.

    I had the Cameo Pro and I do have the CE-7000-60. That Cameo was not consistent with print and cut. It drove me crazy and made spend countless nights trying to get jobs done so
    I returned it. Graphtec is complicated but weeds like butter. Everything has a learning curve and I wish these vendors would send how to instead of having to search old videos to learn how to use. Enjoy watching and learning from you.

      Same here… I returned the cameo and went with a Graphtec also. I’ve come from a background of making large vinyl decals from roll vinyl and not sheet. That is the advantage of using a cutter / plotter over a cameo.

    I just ran into this video. I had my graphtech since 2014 and im still using it. I ended up buying the 24" also. Once you get your settings done, its all fun after. Main thing is the blade for it sticks out as this as a credit card when pushing it down by hand on the blade shaft. I set all the settings for each different type of vinyl (1, 2, 3 and 4).

    Silhouette company doesn’t take advantage of their customers! Their machines are never so outdated to the point that you can’t use them. I have the 1st cameo and the newest one. I have all of the Silhouette products. I am able to use all of them today as I did when I bought the first one. They do not out date themselves. It’s not like the Cricut, as soon as one come out the old one is garbage! I know because I own them too. When Silhouette makes their product, it is years before another one surface. I can create all day on my silhouette program without spending a dime for someone else to create something for me. Love Silhouette ❤❤❤❤

    I completely understand what you’re saying because I’m going through the same thing with my Graphtec. I absolutely love how it cut but every time I use it I have to relearn how to get the plotter to cut. I started out with Cricut Design Space so of course Every software I try to learn is so difficult for me. I have Every software you can think of from the entire Adobe Suite, Silhouette Business Edition, Corel Draw 2021, Affinity Designer/Photo, Flexi Signs by SAI and Design Space and the only 2 I know how to use is Design Space and Silhouette. I wish I had started with the Industry standards. As much as I love my Graphtec cutter, It’s more like an expensive paper weight.

    I know this is an older video but I totally agree with you. How a device makes you feel is very important to a creative person. I feel the same way about cameras. I always tell people the best camera is the one that makes you happy whenever you use it. My current camera has all the right specs: 8K video, RAW, etc. but my favorite camera was an older camera I had and sold (and have regretted ever since). On paper it is not even close to the power of my new camera but that old camera always made me happy whenever I used it and because of that I shot a lot more video with it than with my current camera.

    I have the Graphtec CE6000 40 Plus (desktop version) it’s my 1st and only vinyl cutter, had it since 2019. As for the settings in the machine itself, I really don’t change anything except for the cut setting needed for the material. So I don’t have to dial in anything whenever I use it, I just go to settings 1, 2, 3, etc. As for the software, I don’t like the fact that you can’t move around the objects freely before cutting, however I just set all that up in Adobe Illustrator since there’s a plugin for it. I just adjust my art board to 1 yard (15x12) and I place the artwork the way how I want.

    • @adubbproductions
      @adubbproductions  Před rokem +5

    • @fl305
      @fl305 Před rokem

      @@adubbproductions however I don’t like the fact that the machine I have is not as flexible as the cameo/cricut. One of those machines has a pro version to cut fabric, perforating, creases, etc. If you want to do that with the Graphtec, you need the flatbed version 😕, and that cost as much as a large format DTF printer.

    hi Allen, I agree with you. I have the vinyl system EVO, then got the cameo 4 then got a brother scan n cut. I still use the cameo over the brother and EVO. In addition to vinyl , I cut stickers and fabric. I actually get better cuts from the “hobby”cutters because I’m not dialing the settings for different materials on the EVO. I do miss the larger area because of the 12” limit on the cameo 4. I would consider getting the 24” cameo in the future for the larger cut area.

And I think the software for my SignMax machine (almost 20 years old) was ugly and not great. So instead I'd design in illustrator and then just import. I'd never use the program. So I get not liking the software and user interface. My brother cutter has a nice interface but the cuts using it to design are poor. Using it to scan and cut are great. I hope that you can get the 24 in Romeo Sisser instead of the Juliet because that's what I am looking for information and I do value your honest opinion.
    From the few videos that I can find on CZcams about the Siser Juliet and Romeo cutting machine, I see that the software maybe doesn't have too much going on with it yet and the cutting blade which to me sounds like a downgrade is not an auto blade but which kind of sucks to me because who wants to set a blade every single time before cutting anything? I get what you're saying. You might like a Saga Servo unit if the speed/noise ever bothers you. The software and workflow is easy. Graphtec workflow is not good but if you're someone doing large production or a lot of printed stickers, the Graphtec will save a TON of time. Instead of spending an extra 30+ minutes per run of 80 stickers hand cutting up / splitting up stickers and manually loading jobs to the cutter... just scan the barcode and let the graphtec cut out the stickers for me. Print, laminate, chuck it in the graphtec, shake all the stickers out of the vinyl, done. Having the perfcut channel is critical for die cut stickers without unnecessary wear and tear on the cutter.

    Graphtec makes the Silhouette Cameos. They always have. The Studio software is great for hobbyist as it’s easy to use and pretty straightforward. The difference between the two is that ten years from now your graphtec will still be running without any issues. It’s a commercial machine meant to be used all day, every day. A cameo won’t hold up to that, long term.

      I understand what you are trying to say and yea the graphtec is obviously a stronger machine and i know they are made fr the same company I’ve met with a representative for graphtec and sat down and went threw the software however the ten year analogy is a not accurate cause my cameo 3 still works. Been over 10 years but I get what you are trying to say. They make good machines. The Graphtec is still boring to use and the software is still outdated and clunky.

    • @BootlegCraig

      @@adubbproductions the ten year analogy stand when referring it to a PRODUCTION level machine. There's a reason used graphtecs still sell for thousands of dollars and cameos can be had for $50. Not saying cameos are garbage - I use one for special-use cases in my shop.... but I don't believe for a second that any shop worth its salt wouldn't buy the equivalent in a graphtec or other brand cutter if given the choice. It's a hobby machine that can do slightly more, and that's it. Grahptec machines are boring because they're not meant to be exciting - they're meant to function perfectly, all the time. That said, their software is butt beef and not being able to rename conditions in 2023 is a joke. Love the vids, thanks for always being upbeat and sharing your knowledge!

    Just like with embroidery, design software is independent of the hardware. You can use any software you’re comfortable with and export it to the hardware. I am sad(?) to see you not like a good piece of hardware because you don’t like the associated software. Try exporting Silhouette to the Graphtec, or use the plug in for Corel or Illustrator.

    It makes sense, graphtec machines are made for production
    Where production means, make a lot more
    That's the difference between the two, cameo is going to help you make some stuff but not as quick but with a easy to use UI, graphtec is going to help you make things way faster + comes with a more robust software, it may not be good looking but it has a lot of features and that's what makes it worth the money, tbh, I never used cameo machines thus never used their software but at least I do enjoy using cutting master 4 with the graphtec, looking to buy another or maybe upgrade to the fc9000
    But still, I think there's a place for hobbyist and some business with cameo machines
    Best thing to do is to try the machines, watch videos about them and make a decision based on what we need.

Silhouette was okay if all you are doing is cutting on a mat. The speed of the Graphtec is so much faster than the Silhouette as well. Like you the sound doesn't bother me, it was the Silhouette not feeding accurately and messing up my vinyl, the tracking for long cuts was not correct. I do prefer the Silhouette for print cut for paper though to make tags for my wife.

    Hello Allen, first time commenting. Here is an idea for you for a video and I know it's been done. Making a sublimation print and transferring it to white vinyl and heat pressing it onto a dark tshirt. Reason I'm suggesting is because I was looking into epson eco tank printers to convert to sublimation for printing on tshirts but adding vinyl allows you to print it onto dark tshirts and cotton tshirts also. Another video would be converting epson eco tank printer to DTF. Let me know your thoughts.

    • @adubbproductions

      Printable vinyl video yes. Great video idea. I actually have some of that vinyl.
      Printer conversion video not so much. I have three sublimation printers. Also purchased a et15000 to convert and even purchased the cosmo ink to use but never did it cause i have no use for it. Already have three sublimation printers. So my et15000 i use as a regular printer. Plus there is no customer support for converse printers when and if something goes wrong. I’m all about saving money if you are on a budget but in the long run I think just buying an actual sublimation printer might save a lot of time a frustration. Idk. I’m definitely not buying a Epson to convert it to dtf because again I already have an actual dtf printer. Granted it is a converted Epson printer but that would be a waste of printer that I would not use. Great suggestions though.

    • @JoseMoreno-uz7kn
      @JoseMoreno-uz7kn Před rokem +1

      @@adubbproductions I would agree converting an Epson to dtf is to much trouble and risking damaging the printer and out that money. For sublimation is just replacing the Epson ink with sublimation ink and that's all. I really wouldn't call that a conversion and the reason I'm interested. But the process of sublimation onto vinyl and then to say a dark cotton shirt instead of limited to white or light color shirts interest me. Especially using glitter or holographic vinyl for interesting effects. For a printer that can start at a cost of $300 and up depending on the model, I think it's worth the cost to have a cheap solution to get started and work towards a real sublimation printer. I do hope you get around to doing a video like this. Would really be cool.

    I've been thinking about what you mentioned. I love my CricutMaker and I enjoy designing with it along with Photoshop. Making my custom cards is so easy, I love the process and I know the process well. However the Cricut is slow. I'm entertaining getting the Siser Juliet because of the speed, but already see some features that seem too repetitive with the blade adjustment and constant need to increase and decrease force. Cricut already has blades set at the right level for each project. They already have cut settings built in for every type of material you want to use. I like that I don't have to spend time doing 'test cuts' to see if I need to adjust my blade depth or cutting force. I might end up feeling like you concerning the Graphtec if I purchase the Juliet. When I really need to get a job out for a customer, how quickly will I go to the Juliet vs. the Cricut knowing it's easier to use and I can just jump right in and do what I have to despite the slower speed. Hopefully Cricut will address this for those who don't want to use their 'smart materials'.

I could stoop to your pathetic level and say that people like you settle for mediocrity and people that settle for mediocrity live mediocre lives and work boring mediocre jobs but I’d rather prove my points in more articulate manner with respect. You should try giving a little respect. Don’t let companies like graphtech who abandon their product when they have the dollars to make it better get away with it. It could be improved on to make the experience a lot better. The world would be a better place if people enjoyed what they did. The software is ancient. It looks like a 1970’s video game.
