This sucks, mine frayed also and broke. The good thing is I decided to pull back the opposite way in the engine compartment and the outer seal edge folded in and pulled through with the lock pin connected to the grommet. Now I just have to come up with a plan to reinsert the locking pin on the new grommet. Thanks for the video. It was greatly appreciated.

OK a few points on my experience with this job....
    1) the OE OMC trim sending unit (which is NLA anyway now) on my boat moored in salt water would last about 2 seasons, maximum. When it became NLA, I replaced it with a Sierra aftermarket version that I got on iboats, and its been on the boat 8 years, and still works!
    2) to avoid the fun of running that wire thru the transom mount, my mechanic came up with a nice work around...he drilled a hole in the side of the transom mount, ran the wire out of there and up the transom just like a transducer cable. So now I can change it literally in 15 min and not have to bend myself into a pretzel, or worry about losing that stupid clip either. There is enough slack in the cable for the when the drive moves from side to side, he did this back in 2004 or so and I've replaced it a few times since. The Sierra surprised me with how long it lasted.

I was going to ask if the OEM or aftermarket would be better. I guess Sierra is a good option. My sender arm does not even touch the lower unit for a good part of the travel. Are there different part numbers for different OMC units?

I need to change my trim sender out on my 1994 volvo penta sx drive just seems like a right pain in the a$# haven't had much luck tracking down the correct part here in Australia

0984748 is the best to use. We use Amazon and eBay for parts. Consider using the off brand: Sierra International 18-7634 Marine Trim Sensor. These people are also fantastic: www.nlamarine.com/products/omc-0983939-0984748-18-7634-cobra-trim-sender-unit-1986-1993-4cyl-v6-v8-4-3l-350?variant=12363433476193

Thanks for that Michael type those part numbers into Ebay and popped straight up. Is the omc cobra sender the same as the 94 volvo sx drive sender? Looks the same in the pictures

@@Cuzzyrorydriftmansilviasx Up until 99, OMC and Volvo had a partnership on parts. This means that some parts were interchangeable. Do a visual check on the device itself and also the pin out. There is a new design trim sender that Volvo came out with in 2000.

Micheal, I now have an AQ280DP-PT (DuoProp w/Power Trim. Kinda rare outdrive) and I have a funky trim sending unit with a wire in a white circle plastic casing that bolts on the inside of the transom wall on the outdrive with a thin wire cable that goes it to the drive.
Long story short, it's been broke for 4 seasons because they're extremely rare to come by and cost around $350-$650 to replace (because if there rarity, that's on the USED market!)
So, I'm trying to find a workaround to install a new trim system on it that uses a little more affordable parts. Do you have any idea for a good trim sending unit and gauge that could be modded to fit and work?

I need a trim gauge sending unit for Evinrude G2 model number H300GXCAKB as well as insulation instructions.

Mine wasn't that bad. Took me 20 minutes to remove and install with outdrive on.

What a pain in the ass. Very hard to get at on my Volvo leg, that’s why I haven’t bothered.

I'm going to do a Volvo Penta specific video here pretty soon. This way you can see that process too!. There are a few differences. Please subscribe!
